Budget receivers with HDMI for 2.1 system?

What are good budget receivers that have HDMI? I 'm thinking of setting up a 2.1 setup (possibly a center) and the subwoofer will be active. This would be my first foray into home theater, it's been tv speakers until now.

Don't need crazy power or surround or ability to decode HD audio. Will need HDMI switching.

It will be used in an apartment setting and neighbors are an issue. The room is about 14ft x 15ft.

If it has a low amp draw that would be a HUGE plus (old house, tripped circuits). If it had a somewhat laid back signature that would also be great.

My other option is buying something like the Sony SS2300 HTIB (high THD though) or going the soundbar route with a Yamaha YSP-1100.

The new Pioneer VSX-819H A/V receiver retails for only $299.
Check it out how amazing this receiver is for the retail price at: www.pioneerelectronics.com
Just click on their web site (orange color).

It is much more than what you are asking, but nonetheless it is a fantastic deal.

By the way, just forget about Sony and Soundbar all together.

Cheers,

Bob

Sounds like you need a Z-Vox more than a receiver. Look em up on their website.

Thanks Lordoftherings, that does look like a great budget receiver.

phantom52, I've looked at the Zvox line, the problem is that I have 4 HDMI devices and my TV is a monitor with limited inputs for video and audio. None of the Zvox seem to have HDMI. I do hear they sound great.

Well then I usually wouldn't recommend a receiver(s) that have not been tested. But in this case you may want to give the new Yamaha V65 line a look. Due to the look of the build quality I would start with the 665 and 775. These would have the HDMI inputs you need. Also may want to give the soon to be released Onkyo 607 a look. Didn't realize you needed that many HDMI inputs.

I still vote for the Onkyo 607. They are shipping now. Have a look at Newegg.com

819 will give you 40wpc if you're lucky. For real power at that price range, go for Onkyo or Marantz. You can get refurbs for both at accessories4less.

I don't need a lot of power (not trying to get a movie theater experience so to speak) mostly low/regular volume listening. The Onkyo 607 seems to be more powerful than I need and at 5.5 amps (power consumption), I'm lookin' at a few tripped circuits in my place. And it's out of my budget as well at around $500.

Hmmm, are Pioneer receivers not that well regarded? The VXS-819H would be no good for the Kef's?
Should I be looking at more efficient speakers?

Yes some Pioneers are very well regarded. There are some very good receivers to had at accessories4less in your price range. You can go for the VXS-819H and try it out, if you don't like it, return it. Sounds like it may be the receiver you should try out.

Perhaps look at the upcoming Denon AVR-1610, which will have a MSRP of $379.

If your receiver requirements are low, but you have a lot of HDMI devices, then consider buying a low-end receiver and adding an HDMI switch.
