Ubuntu tablet pc for remote

Thread Starter
after seeing the upcoming ubuntu 9.04 load to FireFox in 20 seconds ( http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/ubuntu...n-175-seconds/ ), I've been thinking that this would make a great base for a universal remote.

I know there are lots of people using tablet pc's to remote desktop into their media servers. Is anyone using Ubuntu (or any other Linux distros) for this purpose? I'd be interested to hear of your experiences.

Thanks,

Ryan

thanks for the reply jim.

i've used lirc on a mythtv based htpc in the past. it worked pretty good, but I thought lirc was only for recognizing and acting upon received IR signals?

I'd like to use the tablet pc with my wireless network for AV control and reading metadata and system states (possibly integrated with home automation/security in the future).

is there any software for linux that can be installed on the table to give a remote control interface, which will in turn control my media server via the wireless network connection.

Is it possible to build a tablet pc on linux that will function like the tsu9600 or tsu9800 prontos ?

thanks again.

Beats me... I was over my head as soon as I posted the link to lirc ;-)

Sorry I couldn't help more. I never played with anything Linux.

no problem.

i've cross posted this question on the linux htpc forum, for anyone who stumbles across this in the future.
