As others have said, price is no guarantee of high quality. That said, I think the gist of
your question has to do with mixing high quality and lesser quality components.
We often call an audio playback system an audio "chain".
The old maxim, "a chain is only as strong as its weakest link" also applies to an audio
chain. A high quality component is not going to compensate for a lesser quality
components in the chain; with the exception that in the digital realm a buffer / reclocker
can compensate for a jittery component upstream.
You should always "balance" your equipment purchases so that you get the most for
your audio dollar. A super-whiz-bang front-end and amplifier is not going to sound good
when heard through some "no-name" speakers you bought for a song out of the back of
