ButtKicker Wants Your Feedback

Since we released our latest ButtKicker product last holiday season, the Wireless ButtKicker Kit, we've received a ton of great feedback.

There is one particular feature however that we've gotten some questions on and we wanted to ask the community for their feedback before we implemented a running upgrade.

For the unfamiliar, the remote has an Intensity Down and Intensity Up button, so there's no way to tell what level the amplifier is at besides feeling how much the ButtKicker is shaking.

So, we are trying to work out a solution that we can put into effect immediately that will make adjusting the intensity of the ButtKicker system more convenient.

One thing we can do immediately is to add buttons to the remote.
We are considering adding 4 more buttons - "Min" - "50%" - "Max" and a Mute button to the remote.

Do you think these button additions will help? Why or why not? Do you have any other ideas that might help?

As always, your feedback is immensely appreciated.

Thanks,
Randy Mullins

the button additions sound great.

i'd suggest one more, a "favorite" button.... basically you use up/down to find where you typically like the level at, press and hold "FAV" and it remembers the setting.

so now i have min, max, mute, 70% (fav), and up/down.

what percentage does "intensity" increase with each button push? Is a 50% button really neccessary along with a min and max?
Along the same line of thought, is a favorite button neccessary? Wouldn't you just normally leave that setting anyway, possibly muting when you want to disable?

could you instead add memory buttons. for example i have my receiver at reference level and found the right buttkicker level i can simply hold down "memory button 1" or "M1" to save the current buttkicker amp level. The next time i press "M1" the buttkicker automatically set the buttkicker amp to that level.

Is this possible? sort of like the presets on a cars radio/fm tuner

3 memory buttons would be perfect.

one memory button for when receiver is set at reference level.
one memory button for when receiver volume level set low at night time
one memory button for when playing video games (for some reason xbox 360 games play louder than movies)

John's suggestion works for me.

Wow - Great feedback. Thanks.

Zero the hero - I think the intensity buttons increment 1dB per push - not for sure on that so I'm looking into it. I'll post back when I find out.

A 50% button may still help though because ideally you'd want room to raise or lower the intensity of the ButtKicker system during a movie via the remote control, so setting the ButtKicker system at 50% and then adjusting your LFE output so that everything is shaking how you like it would be an easy way to accomplish that. Then if you put a movie with less or more bass signal you have plenty of room for adjustment.

An alternative would be to clearly print somewhere how many button pushes it is between Min and Max.

Favorite, or Memory buttons could be cool - I was just getting ready to post another Feedback request that is related to that though which concerns possibly opening up the amplifier's DSP features so you can customize everything.

I'll post a link to that thread when it's up.

Thanks again for the great feedback - please keep it coming

i found a easy way to calibrate the buttkicker...how do you guys calibrate it at the guitammer labs?

i guess you can call it the "touch method".

1. turn off or unplug your subwoofer
2. play the subwoofer test tone on your receiver.
3. place hand on buttkicker transducer.
4. Feel the vibrations
  • If you feel the buttkicker transducer vibrating, lower the buttkicker amp level, one step at a time, until the vibrations disappear. transducer should feel like its turned off.
  • If you don't feel any vibrations, increase the buttkicker amp level until the buttkicker transducer starts vibrating, then lower the buttkicker amp level, one step at a time, until the vibrations disappear and the transducer feels like its turned off.
5. turn subwoofer back on.

The power from the transducer is just right...powerful (for my futon sofa bed) and never bottoms out...

its an easy way to calibrate (if you listen to movies/music/games at differnet levels) and you don't have to worry about changing the level during playback anymore.

all i need now are those memory buttons so i don't have to keep doing it

I would simply want two buttons...

+ and -

And a simple illuminated display showing the intensity level on a scale of something like 0-12 with 0 being 'mute'.

How about a cheaper solution than a display or lights...a dial? Have a dial similar to the gain knob on the bk amp. That way you can always know what setting you are on and also it's easy to switch for different users.

I would want each person to be able to control their own settings without having to get up.

I was thinking something like the 'Private Collection' seating has but with some indication on the power level:

Why couldn't each chair have a remote with a dial on it? Mind you I don't have this product as I still have the whole wired connection and I have to adjust the intensity via the amp, but it seems practical to me.
