Onkyo 507 or Pioneer 819H for Energy Take Classic

Hi guys,

I'm in the process of replacing my old Panasonic HTiB from 2002. I just bought the Energy Take Classic 5.1 set (arriving today -- yay!) and think it would suit my apartment living room nicely. I have a plain old DVD player with component outputs, an Xbox 360 with HDMI output and a Panasonic EDTV with DVI input. I stream video from my laptop to the Xbox. I don't get cable service right now.

Now I need a receiver. Both of the receivers I'm considering are new: Onkyo TX-SR507 and Pioneer VSX-819H. I don't really need all the features, but I am trying to future-proof myself with at least HDMI audio functionality. If anyone has purchased the Onkyo, what are your impressions? In general, how do Onkyos stack up against Pioneer non-Elites? Sound, of course, is the most important consideration, but I like the size of the Onkyo and price and looks of the Pioneer.

Also, am I totally missing a better alternative in the sub $400 price range?

Your feedback is greatly appreciated. I look forward to being blown away by my new system

Also, I heard the Onkyo 606 suffered from buzzing over HDMI and overheating. Is this limited to the 606, or do other models also experience these problems?

Definitively get the Onkyo TX-SR507, you'll be free of any problems with HDMI.

BUT, you can snag an Onkyo TX-SR706 refurb for about your price range.
I will highly recommend you the 706 for about $400 refurb.
Check in here: www.accessories4less.com

I don't recall reading about buzzing over HDMI and overheating problems from all the 06 series.

If you can score the TX-SR706 for around $399 (refurb, more or less), that is your best bet, and a definitive worthy upgrade over the 507 and 606.

* ---> You'll be blown away!

Cheers,

Bob

Thanks LoTR. I did end up purchasing the 507. It should arrive tomorrow. I'll be sure to post my thoughts on the receiver here. Hopefully they are consistent with what I expect from Onkyo.

Hi Gungadin25,
So how is your experience with the new onkyo 507. I am also planning to buy Energy TC 5.1 and either O-507 or P-819H.

How was the onkyo deal? Pioneer is now on sale for ~$250 and i don't see a deal on onkyo.

I'd appreciate if you provide feedback on the onkyo with energy.

Check Amazon for a deal on the 507... you have to put it in your cart and start the checkout to see it. ~$292.
