Hi guys,
I'm in the process of replacing my old Panasonic HTiB from 2002. I just bought the Energy Take Classic 5.1 set (arriving today -- yay!) and think it would suit my apartment living room nicely. I have a plain old DVD player with component outputs, an Xbox 360 with HDMI output and a Panasonic EDTV with DVI input. I stream video from my laptop to the Xbox. I don't get cable service right now.
Now I need a receiver. Both of the receivers I'm considering are new: Onkyo TX-SR507 and Pioneer VSX-819H. I don't really need all the features, but I am trying to future-proof myself with at least HDMI audio functionality. If anyone has purchased the Onkyo, what are your impressions? In general, how do Onkyos stack up against Pioneer non-Elites? Sound, of course, is the most important consideration, but I like the size of the Onkyo and price and looks of the Pioneer.
Also, am I totally missing a better alternative in the sub $400 price range?
Your feedback is greatly appreciated. I look forward to being blown away by my new system
