For what its worth I am downtown at 55 Public Square. Our office is somewhat high. I have both a hdtv amped indoor antenna connected to a vizio and a cheap kworld usb atsc tuner on a computer using the single telescoping antenna ear. I have the antenna pointed at the window and had it angled pointed straight out. Was getting 20 channels. All locals except WOIO. Most locals at full strength. While Trying to get more power from a Canton station I noticed it i have the antenna pointed straight down I receive a much higher strength. It is pointed at the magnetic radiator now and I get 28 or so channels on my KWorld including WOIO. Will rescan the Vizio now. Hope this info can help somebody. I am guessing it is now pointing more level to the antenna and the reflection issues of the radiator are now being used to help and not hinder reception.

Anyone have any idea why my absolute best reception comes from antenna angled down pointing west to northwest?

It's bounce off one of the other large building. Maybe pointing other directions you get a multi-path signal.

OK, now that we're pretty much in the Digital Age now... any thoughts? How are folks picking up the new WJW digital 8 signal?

Not able to receive VHF Fox8 with the inside antenna... Like CBS I think Fox Youngstown is going to be a lot more popular down here... -Ed

When WJW was broadcasting its digital signal on channel 31, the signal quality level here was usually in the low to mid 90s. Now that it is broadcasting on channel 8, the signal quality level is in the mid 70s and solid.

Fox 8.1 is fine with me. I am also getting 47.1 and 48.1 but no signal. Anybody know what they are? Also 23.1.2.3.4 is booming in at 97%.

47 is the DT RF channel for WOAC/67 Canton.

Perhaps they're getting ready for the TCT folks to program it as 47.1-47.2 (don't know about 48.1), with two channels of religious programming...one in HD, even!

And conveniently, Fox Youngstown is on the very same channel, in HD!

I've gotten a stable position for WJW-DT 8 up here with an unamplified indoor antenna, but it's very touchy. I'm somewhat closer to Parma than you are.

Even when lockable, WJW-DT's signal level is just over halfway across the bar (Zenith CECB).

I'm not sure either of you "count"...you both have admitted to having pretty impressive outdoor antenna setups.

47.1 RF (67 virtual) is in Brimfield just East of WAOH-LP 29... that's as far North and as far West as Paxton could move the former Canton station... -Ed

OH great, this could bite. WVIZ was coming in loud and clear. I'll need to check how the bottom of the valley does with WKYC (which should be great) and WWJW (which apparently could be a little iffy).

Checked it out quickly right after the switch - on an indoor antenna, it was marginally better than WOIO, but no where nearly as good as the old RF31 signal (which pegged the signal meter). Enough signal for a lock w/no break ups, but did have to adjust the antenna some. Will have to check it out tonight on the outdoor antenna.

Too bad everyone didn't go with UHF, much easier to receive w/indoor antennas.

EDIT: BTW, WKYC on RF17 coming in full-scale on signal meter, slightly better than WEWS (previously the best digital signal). This with just indooor rabbit ears

I have small TV antenna in the attic, and before the transition, WKYC-DT was marginal, and of course I couldn't get WVIZ-DT at all. Now all Cleveland DT stations are strong and solid. WKYC-DT and WEWS-DT both peg the signal meter at 100. WBNX-DT and WQHS-DT are still around 95, WJW-TV and WOIO-DT read about 93, WUAB-DT is at 87, and WVIZ-DT brings up the rear at 75.

Another data point, from western Shaker Heights, about 8-10 miles from the antennas: Took down the temporary DB-4 roofmount. BTW, yes, it is a UHF antenna, but it gets high VHF fine in most cases and even some low VHF in certain situations - and I was picking up RF 2 WKYC with it, proving this is possible.

Switching to my plain old rabbit ears now: WKYC on RF 17 is really coming in - this is great! WOIO's signal is as crappy as ever, but we knew that would be the case. I really may contact the FCC to point out that they don't cover their city of licensure - I've been at friends' houses and seen that they can't get WOIO either, even after I fine-tuned their antennas with a compass. Really, really, crappy.

Anyway, WEWS is fine as expected, but it looks like WJW is effectively gone - what a shame! I can get some occasional lock-on and even some sustained periods with fine-tuning, but it looks like it's going to be disappointing results in Shaker Heights, which is roughly what almost everyone is reporting. I use my antenna to record a third show on my Dish ViP722 at the same time, so this is going to be a pain in the fall - stop recording Fox shows offair and start recording NBC offair. Sadly, we watch nearly no ABC, which is about the best signal available... though WKYC may be giving WEWS a run for its money there!

I've attached a couple of pictures of my setup that I just took. The antennas are pointed southeast toward Pittsburgh. The tubing that the rotator is connected to has bent a little. Fortunately, I've purchased a Hy-Gain AR-40 rotator to replace the Channel Master unit. I'm also going to replace the antennas. The CM 4228 will be replaced with an Antennas Direct 91XG, and the Winegard YA-1713 will be replaced with a Funk psp.1922 that I was lucky enough to purchase a year ago. The gentleman who was selling the psp.1922s is out of stock, and Funke has discontinued production. The CM 4228 is a great antenna, but at 15 pounds it is just too heavy, and that along with the large screen reflector results in a huge wind load, which explains why the rotator mount has bent a little.

I'm maybe 2 miles most NE of Hopkins, near Puritas/W 150. For my main receiver, I'm using a Zenith 3656 DVR/DVD combo into an older analog TV. Unfortunately this box doesn't have a signal strength meter, however I'm getting all locals with seemingly no break-ups in the signal, 3.1.2, 5.1, 8.1, 19.1.2, 23.1.2.3.4, 25.1.2.3.4, 43.1.2, 55,1, and 61.1. My box and TV are in my living room, and I have a small UHF bowtie anteena coaxed (about 50 ft of coax) to the 2nd floor of my house, and on SE corner of the inside wall. wedged in a fake ceiling tile where it is hopefully just above where the aluminum siding starts. I tried the antenna in all kinds of areas when I first installed this set-up about a year ago, and found this works best, even better than the front dormer in which I can put the antenna up higher, but that's on the west side of my house.

I occasionally can pick up 49.1.2, usually in the late evening when I can get it. No others, except I was getting 17.1 thru 5 yesterday for a while, but they're all gone now, seemed like 5 channels of religious programming, which seems a bit excessive to me.

I also put a converter box on a TV in my garage, and a bowtie antenna maybe 8 feet off the floor, and I get all the locals when I scanned about an hour ago, except for the 23's. 3.1.2 and 25.1 - 4 were iffy in my garage before, but seem strong now. The garage also has aluminum siding. Hopefully someday I'll get someone out who can put a roof antenna, as I don't do roofs, and I can get some channels from a little further out.

I used to have TWC cable, but always found myself watching the locals, so I dropped TWC except for RoadRunner Internet.

It won't be me climbing up the tower! The new installation will be done by a professional with the proper rigging and safety equipment.

Two big thumbs down to WJW. Pre-transition they were the most stable for me. Today, they are in WOIO territory. I really wish all of our locals were UHF.

I am consistantly getting 26.12, 26.13, 30.4, 30.5 on my Sony XBR's. There is no signal on those numbers. Any clue to who? My MY-HD 120 gets 47.1, 48.1 but not any of the numbers mentioned above.

They recently change this? What hapopened to 2 & 4? I assume 31 & 32 is allocated to Cleveland also.

My father is also getting 26.12 & 26.13 on his Sony also... something in the way that tuner is working?

About the same up north, though at the very end 31 was starting to occasionally pixelate

My last flash of analog DX this Morning around 9:45 was KDFW 4 out of Dallas, after that an NBC 4 came in well after 11 showing the Today show (NBC) I haven't searched could that have been Phoenix?

These FTA Sat setups, is this equipment avail strictly online, or would someone like Mentor TV or AES carry this?

My 32" Westinghouse LCD is picking up 26.6 and 26.7 (I think) with no programming. That's the only tuner in the house that does this.

30.4 and 30.5 (or whatever my LCD translates them to, I think 30.2 and 30.3) are coming out of WBNX, somehow (RF 30). Again, no other digital tuner in the house gets these "spurs".

I tried WJW this afternoon and wasn't getting a picture. Then came back after 7 PM, and it was coming in, probably 7 bars of 10. Solid enough for a lock... which is all I need. And I'm watching Game 7 on NBC, absolutely no problem. So nice!

I get 26.12/13 and 30.4/.5 on my Sony as well - these seem to be phantom subchannels related to WVIZ and WBNX, respectively. Something about those stations' PSIP that confuses the Sony tuner.

I'm wondering about that first part...are digital TV signals easier to pick up at night or for some other atmospheric reason? What are you using for an antenna, and about how far are you from the Parma farm?

I'm sitting here with my portable TV with a very modest magmount aerial I normally use with my USB HDTV tuner (or this one) in the car.

Found a good position, and WKYC-DT is coming in without dropouts or pixellation, with the screen down on my back window, not pointing towards Parma. I'm impressed!
