Science Channel HD - Page 2

It's definitely worth a viewing. You have to watch any show with a host named "NAR". Even with the odd name I found myself envying his job. They don't set long on any one setup. Keeps it moving at a good pace & as I mentioned before the element of seeing how the tech is used in other areas was really interesting.

One of my fav segments was the 'Hydrolx' viewing room. Even my wife was interested in that part (just that much closer to building our own). They have a guy in once a week to calibrate the projector. Man that thing gets some serious run time.

I saw it, it was ok. Maybe I did not pay too much attention.

Thanks for the heads up on this show. I love this behind the scenes stuff. One of the best stories about filmmaking I ever heard was how they filmed the scene in Poltergeist where the house folds in upon itself. Apparently, they built a big miniature (oxymoron?) of the house, then strung up hundreds of piano wire to strategic locations throughout the house, then fed the wire through a 6 inch aperture where they then tied it to a forklift. Then then ran the cameras, engaged the forklift and literally pulled the house through the aperture. But if any part of the house got stuck, they had two guys next to the camera with shotguns blowing the hell out of the house to ensure that it collapsed correctly. Awesome...

Anyway, I eat this stuff up. Thanks for posting it - I will be sure to DVR it.

I haven't seen it yet, but a friend will be on it June 9th, talking about the effects for True Blood.

Good show. Looking forward to future coverage. Only mild objection: The Bill-Nye-science-guy approach, where writers throw in too much hokum--seemingly an apology to viewers for actually covering technical stuff. -- John

I've had that reaction to almost everything I've seen in the past couple of years on Science and Discovery. All their shows seemed "dumbed-down" to the point where even somewhat technically-literate viewers find little new. I find it a sad commentary on the current level of scientific literacy in the American public.

I noticed last week that Josh is touting the new season with all new material.

Wonder how long that will last.

Science Channel is my favorite. I like that they mostly stick to science and don't go wandering off into crazy stuff like flying saucers or game shows in taxi cabs.

Last night's episode of Build it Bigger was pretty good.

New episode tonight. Topic "IMAX & Guns" not sure how the two are related, but it sounds interesting.

I started a thread last week for "Science of the Movies" on Sci Channel. I wouldn't begin to know how to merge it with this one. I agree that there should be one thread for this channel. How's that done?

Tonight's ep was just meh to me. Not sure what happened, I really enjoyed the first one, but nearly fell asleep during the incredibly slow 'mole' segment. IMAX segments are always nice to watch, but I believe after only two eps that Nar is getting on my narves quickly.
Maybe next week will be better.
