WD TV Prerelease 1.02.06 is out

Thread Starter
This is a prerelease version of the firmware. Feel free to install it but be aware this is beta firmware so use it at your own risk. If you are not comfortable with this, please wait for the final version.

Fixed items:

*Subtitle outline needs to be thicker

*Drives don't spin down when ejected in 1.02.03

*Thumbnails don't refresh to reflect changes until House is powercycled

*"Now Playing" screen doesn't show up

*2x Reverse goes very fast

-Well the subtitle outline is def. thicker :P

but hmmm, i liked the previous more, the letter are too "blocky"
,outline should be between previous and this version, and more smooth

but only the black is a little bit "blocky" , white is nice round.
(subtitles are not bad , but could be better )

-and DTS-core inside DTS HD still chrashes ....

more to test
Wow, after testing new firmware the subtitle is finally perfect and is 100% readable. But subtitle still won't work if I move video vertically. I have the feeling that the final official firmware may be near.
Subtitle outline is now too thicker...

If it was 25% less, it would perfect!

Thanks GuyWD an ScottWD...

Now, give us more reframes

It would be cool if they let us decide how thick we want the outline to be!

This was a feature request a long time ago:

Quote:

Subtitle request:
A new selectable option: "subtitle outline thickness" with ~5 different values to make subtitles better readable ...
... where 0 stands for "no outline", 1 "as it is in the 1.02.04 firmware", 2 "a little bit thicker than 1", 3 "a little bit thicker than 2" ...
the size is ok now, but the black should be less and the white should me more...

See a word starting with a C or O, the left side of these outlines are just cut off... :/ (not round)

Plz. make the subtitles look more like this :

After testing few mkv files, I did watch couple movies and notice that some files have different outline thickness. Some files look good whilst other file have too much outline thickness. I think external subtitle (srt) look better than the one that already have subtitle included in mkv files.

the 1080p 23Hz still displays as 480i.

anyone had a chance to test 23.976 @ 24hz again?
Well I noticed one thing.

WDTV now scans my 2 HD's alot faster.

Things still broken I can confirm.

Subtitles in MKV still default to on all the time.
2 or more HDs on a USB hub still doesn't sort the HD by alphabetical.
ow wow, only 3 days between releases? i cannot emphasis enough how much i like the way you guys are doing things.

GuyWD: have the .ass tags been added to the block list for subtitles codes? that's still a big one for me. heck, after that one is taken care of i betcha that i'll only be visiting this forum half as much!

Yes my friend. You´re right. By the way, .ISO files are not "officially" supported too, and alll my files are in ISO format and plays well! But, as matter of fact, did you saw any "official improvement" about ISO files on afficial releases? I don´t think so! DVD chapters support or DVD menu support in ISO files would be great, but how it could be done if the format isn´t officially supported yet? Anyway, i was thinking to buy 2 external drivers (1.5 Tb each one) to use with a good USB hub (external powered hub, to more compatibility). With your experience, do you think that my HDs (2 x 1.5 = 3Tb) will be recognized "overlapping" limitation of 2Tb per USB port? As you said, things "on paper" are quite different than real life... Would be great if works...

Please make an option so people who don't use subtitles, had ability to shut it OFF by default!!!

Please...Please....Please...i'm on my knees, begging-----these subs drive me crazy!!!!!!!!!!!

Optional features shouldn't be on by default!!!!!!!

For the mkv files you looked at, are the internal subtitles srt or idx/sub? The WD TV has no control over idx/sub subtitle appearance since those are just overlaid bitmaps.

I'm amazed that people are complaining that the text outline is too thick now. Question is, are they easily readable and in sync? If you are that picky about subtitle appearance, then use Subtitle Creator to make your own idx/sub.

A better solution would be for the WD TV to honor the default flag for the subtitle stream in mkv files. Respecting the default flag for video and audio streams would be great as well.

Hi All,

I've updated my WD from 1.02.02 to 1.02.06 & now I'm getting a scratchy sound from TV after setting resolution to 1080p24. The scratchy sound is audible even when the TV sound is turned off. My TV is a Samsung PA50A650. Anyone else have this problem? Thanks.
For me,

this will be the final Subs release

Subs are Great!!

For now WD-lab must start another point, like real auto-detect resolution and 23,97fps

In mkvmerge GUI, highlight the subtitle track, go to General track options and set Default track flag to YES or NO.

while that is an option. its pretty weird to see a media player not have this feature. and it was working fine before and the problem doesn't exist in the stable release. So they need to add the feature to default off. or fix the bug.

Can someone comment on whether this fixes the ff and rw problems in the prior beta?
So, this is like who knows what upgrade in last couple weeks but there is nothing about DVD menus?!
Thanks for nothing WD!!!
I am still having problems with VC-1 encoded content at 23.976fps w/ 1.02.06. I realize that nothing is listed in the 'fixed items' for this release, but I was also coming from 1.02.03. M2ts files play just fine and that is what I am currently using, but I would love to be able to use the mkv container to add subs and chapter points. Mkv playback is much improved over 1.02.00, but there are still times when the video will hitch or judder. Wmv playback is still pretty bad at 24Hz with continual video lag and judder, but tolerable at 60Hz (still no 5.1 audio though, but not holding my breath).

If needed, I can post the media info, I can even encode and upload a sample of something freely available if desired (like a short clip of Elephant's Dream).

I encode my wmv's for playback on the 360 w/ 5.1 audio and the PS3 with stereo audio, so it has two seperate audiences each with it's own audio stream. Wma 10 Pro 5.1 for the 360 and Wma 9.2 stereo for the PS3, and the WD TV will playback the Wma 9.2 audio in the file. I have really only tested this on files that I already have encoded, and have even tried remuxing with only the stereo audio, but get the same results.

I'm out of the town for the weekend. Can somebody please post a picture showing the new subtitles?

Please show some appreciation. They can't do all the things we ask them in a snap. Patience my friend.
