Hi Guys and Hakan,
I installed the new StM firmware on my DV-420 (US Version) and yesterday it had a big problem. Let's look at this problem from educational purpose ONLY!
I downloaded the "Kick-Ass R5 XviD-COALiTiON" movie (2 files ~1.3 GB) and put it on USB flash and start the player to play it. Well, the TV went black
and did not recognized the HDMI signal anymore. I thought okay, the movie is bad, so I turned the player off, then turned it on again. Suprisingly, the player did not have any picture!
So at this point I thought the player HDMI is burnt so I will use Composite or Video out to make sure. The composite picture had color but was refreshing (circling) vertically with a high frequency that I could not see anything and after 3 second, bam, no picture. The video out was Black and White and does the same thing, circling vertically but did not go dead but I could not read anything. I tried to change the Player system to NTSC/PAL/MULTI as others suggested, nothing worked.
So I thought I have lost the player, then I remembered, I can try updating the player Firmware again, so I burned another disk with YKB and YKF on it (so you don’t have to guess which one will work) and hit the PLAY button after 10 second. The player did the update procedure and bam the picture came again!
Since I always use the player in 1080p/16:19 I tried playing the movie in 480p mode and it did play it, so I at this point I was completely sure it is due to resolution and I could not be any more wrong. Today I tried to play the file in 480p again, and BAM player dead again. Fortunately now I know what to do and I just re-upload the firmware, set to 720p and played the file again. It did work!!! So it is not because of resolution but something in the new firmware will update itself in the IC (flash memory of the player).
It was an interesting BUG/GLITCH and I thought bring it into attention is necessary since it might happen to other movies/divx files.
