I'm slowing drudging through the process of building a decent 5.1 setup on a budget. I had 820 to start. I haven't bought anything yet but this is what I've decided on so far. PS3 ( don't need to buy an expensive receiver since it can send 5.1 PCM ) 300 on craigslist. Onkyo TX-SR576, 300 on amazon.com ( can interpret 5.1PCM through HDMI ). That leaves just 220 dollars ( I don't mind upgrading over a period of time though ). I do only get 100 dollars though so I don't want to go crazy here...
I currently have a Z5500 logitech set that I bought as a temporary solution. I inherited a pair of KEF 104/2s that are in perfect condition. I'm planning on replacing the front stero speakers with the KEF and slowly replacing the rest of the set. I don't care too much about bass and I've been happy with the sub that came with the Z5500. I'd like to know which speakers would have a similar sound signature so they don't clash with the KEF ones. I also saw that the KEF ones are 4 ohms, does that mean they wouldn't work with the 576 receiver? Thanks...
