I've been running MCE 2005 on my system for about three years, never any serious issues, it's been very solid.
Windows was getting slow and sluggish, so last week I reinstalled Windows, something I've done occasionally in the past.
Now, whenever I go to Live TV, I get an error that says: "decoder in use" and suggests other programs may be using the decoder.
Here's some info on what's going on:
- I selectively stopped running processes, one at a time, then tried Live TV again. Same error every time. This is a fresh install of Windows, so, other than drivers, I haven't installed any applications. I can't think of anything that could be using the decoder.
- When I run TV Signal Setup in MCE, if I choose Automatic, it tells me that there is no signal coming into the card, and asks me to check the connection. I know that there is a signal, though, because I can watch TV through WinTV. I tried TV Signal Setup before I installed WinTV and got the same error, so I know there is no conflict between the programs.
- A number of people have had trouble with Service Packs and MCE. I've tried Live TV with no service pack , as well as SP1, 2, and 3, and I get the same error every time.
- My decoder is Nvidia PureVideo. When I run DECCHECK, it says there is also a Sonic MPEG decoder (which must be bundled with Windows) but it is disabled and the Nvidia one is the default. I've tried making the Sonic decoder the default and I get the same error.
- Everything else in MCE works. I can even watch my old recorded DVR-MS shows. Live TV seems to be the only thing affected.
Any ideas?
I have a Nvidia 7600 GS video card, Hauppauge PVR-500 dual-tuner card and the Nvidia PureVideo decoder. All the same stuff I've had for three years without any serious issues.
