Looking for a powerful auditorium projector...

Hi All,

I just found these amazing boards and plan to be posting more in the future.

Right now I have a quick question that I hope you guys might be able to help out with. My boss wants to install a new projector in a moderately sized auditorium. I think due to the room size we'll need at least 5,000 lumens and probably a native aspect ratio of 4:3 is ideal, since we'll mostly be presenting slides and powerpoints. With that said, the projector should still at least support all common resolutions.

Budget is around $10-$20k.

I've looked at a few options but am a bit out of my depth here. I know a fair amount about TVs but very little about projectors.

Any help is much appreciated!

Thanks.

Your requirements are pretty standard so it's likely they can be covered on a much smaller budget.

If the projector will only get occasional usage and therefore is planned to last many (5+) years, it'd be worth considering 16:9 or 16:10 shape for futureproofing, as almost all laptops sold today are widescreen. But for normal levels of usage, yes probably best to stick with the standard 4:3.

We'll assume there'll be indoor lighting but no direct sunlight, so you're probably right about your lumen requirements. But how large would you like the screen, and how far from it will the projector be placed?

I've been very impressed with the Hitachi CPX10000. It is 3LCD light canon with 7,500 lumens and 2500:1 contrast. Fairly easy to install.

Generally they are not available on-line but send me a PM and I'll connect you to the "source" (less than 1_5_K)
