When the Tivo is hooked to the TV on HDMI input1 everything works fine (Sound and Video). However, when I hook the Tivo up to the HDMI input2 of the receiver and then the HDMI output to the TV, I get nothing. I know the receiver can see the signal because the HDMI light flashes and I know the TV can tell there is a signal there, but it won't display anything. I know it's probably not the TV because it does this with another Vizio TV I have.

I have assigned the HDMI inputs correctly (HDMI 2 to the VCR/PVR input) and I left all the other HDMI inputs blank.

Do you guys have any other ideas? I think it's something with the Tivo, but I have no idea what to change.

If that's your only HDMI source, why not put it in HDMI 1? Maybe the 507 is being wierd because there isn't a device in the first port?

I've tried all 4 ports.

Ahh that was useful information, so it isn't a single port issue...

Some topics that are semi-related that might be of some help in playing with settings:

Oh and it seems the 607 might be wierd with the TiVo HD/S3 too

Yeah, sorta related, but the 507 supports HDCP and I'm not even getting a picture to see a Tivo error. (again)

I only have one BD title that has an LPCM track rather than a TrueHD/DTS-HD track, so it isn't the end of the world, but it also is somewhat concerning if I ever want to enable secondary audio and let my player do the decoding/mixing.

Yes, several other people in the UK have the issue, but I think I got to the bottom of it at the weekend. In a last-ditch attempt to resolve the issue before returning the amp, and because Onkyo were being next to useless, I went through every setting on the thing to see if I could effect a change. It turns out that having auto lip sync enabled was causing the lack of LFE. As long as that feature is disabled on the amp and/or the TV I have bass with PCM. If it's enabled on both, no LFE. It never occurred to me that it would be the lip sync because it works fine with all Dolby and DTS formats from standard lossy up to lossless. It's just PCM (whether a PCM track or Dolby/DTS output as PCM from a PS3 for example) that has the problem.

I have no idea if it is an issue with the amp and my specific TV, but I can see no reason why it shouldn't work as they're both HDMI 1.3a. I have told the other UK forum members about the fix, but I'm waiting to hear back from them to see if it resolved the issue. I'm not sure why I thought to check it actually. I compared my amp with a relative's (same model) a while ago and all the settings were the same, but it turns out his TV doesn't support lip sync even though it was enabled on the amp, which explains why he didn't have the same problem as me. Never occurred to me to check his TV settings.

Anyway, it's a minor annoyance not being able to use the auto-sync feature, but I have watched a couple of films with it set manually and it doesn't seem to be causing any problems. Not quite sure what I should set it to manually, as the auto setting was displayed as '100ms (80ms lip sync)'. I've manually set it to 80 rather than 100 though, as I guess the auto feature was just reporting the max available delay and the bit in brackets was the actual delay it was applying...

I still think it's an issue with the amp, but as long as there's a workaround I'm happy enough. I'd probably have a different attitude if the auto lip sync was something I needed though...

Ahh I see, thanks for the info.

Any one with a PS3 and/or other player using LPCM decoding and the US version have this issue? I'm curious to see if this is just a UK model bug (which would suck for you guys across the pond).
I'm in the US and I'm having the same issue. I set my PS3 to LPCM and set my Onkyo 507 to Direct and get pretty much no bass. Has anyone figured out what's causing this?
Quick question... I just got my 507 yesterday, and everything seems to be working fine. Still getting used to it (I've run Audyssey - super easy and beneficial... but haven't messed with any sound settings yet).

My question is: When you have your Cable/DVR box plugged into HDMI 3 IN on the 507, does your 507 call it "DOCK?" I figured it would call it "CBL/SAT." It's not really that big of a deal, but I'd prefer CBL/SAT if it is an option. I though DOCK would stand for the HD Tuner or iPod Dock... but Cable/DVR.

Thanks,
Drew

I'm not sure of the answer to that... but I can watch TV with no sound and listen to FM radio at the same time. The FM tuner is part of the receiver though, so I'm not sure if that'll give you the same results.

Have you tried the lip sync as per my post? Why are you using Direct mode? You should use multi-channel with PCM from the PS3.

I have the same issue of no bass when playing audio CD through playstation. I am using All Channel Stereo. Everything sounds great if I play mp3s through Tversity Server on my Playstation, same with DVD movies. However, put in a audio CD and no bass. I need to try the Lipsync trick. I did reduce to 0 ms on Lip Sync set-up but I think it was still enabled. Probably need to completely Disable. Will try this tonight.

thanks atbear, but it would be great if i'm able to listen to my own music and say watch a game at the same time from the xbox. anyone have any experience?

Anybody know anything about my DOCK question?

Problem was with the Playstation 3 source. Volume on the PS3 was pegged at +4 causing clipping and static over HDMI input to the Onkyo. Turned volume down via triangle menu to 0 or normal. Bass still did not return until I restored all defaults on the PS3. Now, subwoofer works and getting normal bass, but woke up this morning to another issue. I am getting no signal to the Onkyo over HDMI from two sources: DirecTV and PS3. Receiver says no signal. Tuner source works fine. Tonight I will attempt to reboot the unit by unplugging the receiver. If that does not work, will have to restore factory settings. Any one else experience lock ups with the receiver?

I just got mine today and been using it for about 2 hours.
It feels significantly hotter than the pioneer vsx-519v-k its replacing.

Anyone else have concerns or is this the norm?

I was also wondering how you get to access Dolby Digital EX and DTS ES settings?

I was messing about with LOTR: FOTR and when I checked the amp running the DTS 6.1 ES track, it showed as Multi Channel PCM 7.1???

I thought you had to manually switch of the extra channels to avoid missing information??

Never mind, I just realised that my system is automatically set to Surround Back: None

I've had my receiver for about 5 weeks now and still playing with the settings.

I'm happy with music and very happy with the sound effects on Xbox games.

However, movies are lacking something, I think.

Which "mode" should I be using for a Sony BD360 Blu Ray player connected via HDMI?

Thanks.

I am having a problem with Zone 2 locking up my receiver. Zone 2 was working fine for about a month. Now, when I turn on Zone 2 it causes the receiver to go into fault protection mode and it locks up all channels. I have to unplug the receiver and plug back in to reset. Then, all front channels work fine until I again try to turn on Zone 2. Locks up again. Anyone experience similar problems?

Here is what I do. From my cable box I run HDMI to the AVR. Also from the cable box I run Component to my HDTV. This way I can use my TV to watch the game and whatever source I want for music (including Xbox 360, tuner, PS3, etc).

I see NO difference with HDMI or Component video from my cable box. Having component also allows me to only have the TV on with sound if I want. It is also much easier for my wife to handle this way.
I got my receiver to display CBL/SAT while watching TV. I contacted Onkyo support by email and they told me to reset the receiver. That did the job. Now my receiver says CBL/SAT while I'm watching TV or DVR. I don't know why it started displaying DOCK originally, but I'm glad to have that fixed (though it was a minor annoyance).

So far this thread focuses mostly on problems people are having. I'd like to know about (onscreen) setup and Dynamic Volume/EQ. I've seen posts asking about this but they've gone unanswered so far...

Does the onscreen display work over HDMI?
Thoughts on the OSD in general?

Would love to hear from anyone in an apartment/condo situation (where complaints from neighbors can be a problem) - does the Dynamic Volume/EQ work well? Does it work on any sort of audio input? (My current receiver, a Yamaha, has a night mode, but it works poorly - and only on a DD signal. Unfortunately, I get a $50 ticket from the HOA every time a neighbor complains, so this is a BIG issue for me.)
No problems here... but I haven't used the OSD (using the setup on the unit itself is plenty easy). Dynamic EQ seems to be good. Dynamic Volume I haven't played with much yet. I'll let you know as soon as I come to any conclusions.

Not when the receiver is in a different room.

I just bought an Onkyo TX-SR507 receiver that supports video and audio through hdmi. I have selected on my ps3 the outputs my receiver supports. So will the ps3 pick the best sound output available depending on what game or movie is being played? Or does the receiver play a part in that selection, and will it display the output on my receiver so I know for sure. Also should I select bitstream or linear pcm for my bd/dvd audio output format. I am really new to this stuff so any help would be great.

Hello there!

I have just bought my Onkyo and I wonder if its possible to connect my Aego2 active speakers (2.1) to the receiver?

Best regards

The PS3 does not bitstream HD Audio, so you need to use LCPM. The receiver should go to MultiCh automatically unless you force it to something else, but MultiCh will give you the sound intended by the movie maker.
