Has the issue with no bass when using PCM been resolved? I plan on using a PS3 so I understand I will be using PCM almost exclusively.

If I remember correctly, that was only one user and it could have been user related.

Currently I have the PS3 decoding the audio and sending it out via LPCM (which reads as Multichanel on the 507). Would it be better to send the audio from the PS3 as bitstream, and allow the 507 to decode? If they are both equal, I suppose sending it as bitstream is better so that I can see on the display what format is in use, correct?

No difference in sound quality, but the PS3 cannot bitstream the HD audio, only PCM, so it won't matter until you get a BD player than can bitstream HD audio.

Hey "Skismuggs". I love Smugglers! Grew up in the Northeast Kingdom now living in So. Cal.

From reading the manual, my understanding is that you can hook your two ceiling speakers (or the bookshelfs) to the Zone 2 connections, and then just turn Zone2 on and have it use the same source as the main. However, after typing that I think that'll work but will shut off the 2 rears as it needs to distribute the power. You can view the manual from onkyo's site.

I ended up running a speaker selector switch to run front a and b speakers. Works just fine. I am running a set of speakers off of zone 2 for my patio which is just outside my family room and there is a noticeable delay in the audio from the front channels. Probably because zone 2 is analog vice digital up front and there must be a delay associated with the analog circuitry. I guess my point is I wouldn't put my zone 2 speakers in the same room as your fronts.

Will Oknyo USA be getting the TX-SR577 variation of the SR507?

had my tx-sr507 for a week now and so far i love it. I came from a sony ht-ct100 soundbar. Im running a 3.1 setup right now with Energy C100s as mains, Energy C-C50 center, and a tSc asw-10 sub. Setup was very easy, finally got a chance to run Audyssey this weekend. I thought my blu-rays sounded good before but WOW, watched The Incredible Hulk last night and I was blown away.

I have decided to go with the 507 over the 607 because I just can't justify the price difference for the 607 and I hear upconvert is over hyped anyway. I'll be hooking up my HDDVR,BluRay,Xbox 360(uses component)and a nintendo Wii.Does anybody see a problem with this? I currently have my xbox connected directly to the tv and optical used for the audio through the receiver. The hddvr and bluray use hdmi of course. The Wii is on the way.Let me know, planning on pulling the trigger tonight on it.Thanks

I have (and it had been working correctly) the new b75 hooked up to the Onkyo exactly as the diagram in the set up requires but the TV identifies "Cable 3" and says "weak or no connection" All connections between the TV,etc are via HDMI with DVD going to HDMI 1 and cbl/sat to HDMI3. The new Samsung goes from the HDMI out on the Onkyo to the HDMI in on the TV. why was it working and now stopped?

All components are via HMDI as per the Onkyo diagram (BR disc, Fios HD box/dvr, TV) Here is how it is set up in the Onkyo setup menu: Hardware setup-7.3 HDMI: HDMI Contol: On, Power Control: On, TV Control: On, XV Clor: disable. Does this read right to you please?

Are you using multi remotes to control your components or one remote to control all your components?
Ok I'm going to be banned from this forum for this answer but here goes. I tried programming the Verizon to the codes for the other components and it works sometimes and not others. I then tried to enter the codes in the Samsung and it similarly works sometimes. One specific problem I have identified is: the On and the Off on the Onkyo have different codes. So my answer is thus: I sometimes flubber through one and sometimes all. While I am willing to purchase a more elegant solution (universal remote) I am weary that the new remote (logitech?) will (A) further confuse me, and (B) have similar "partially effective" issues. Lastly as an attempt to just try one I bought a Radio shack universal which barely accepts any of the codes and which i'll return. Excuse the long answer. dennis

Dennis I think this is the reason you lost TV connection/signal. Using the remote that don't have all the capable function and by a push of one button may have switched your input mode. I'm not sure if this the case but others can chime in on your settings.

Well I'm willing to order a Harmony 1 on Amazon right now if it will control all my "new stuff". Most especially the Onkyo as that is the hub from which all else communicates. Indeed I purchased the Onkyo for expediency (HDMI) replacing my old Yamaha.

Dennis,

I use the Harmony1 and it works great.
Along with the 507 I control my Sammy A650 and a Directv PVR.

I started with the Harmony 520 and moved up to the Harmony 880. Absolutely love it! If you want to start cheap to see if you like the Harmony concept, you can get a refurb 520 from Tiger Direct for $39. I got one as a spare.

When I turn the Onkyo on with Cable/sat as an input it picks up the audio transmission from my Verizon/Fios dvr/hd box. When I then turn my TV (Samy b750) on the Onkyo remains on the Cable/sat input for a moment but then automatically defaults into the TV/tape input (which gives me no audio from the TV or cable) so I have to set it back to the Cable/sat which is where I want it and set it in the beginning. Why (after a fraction of a second) is the Onkyo input defaulting into TV/tape after the TV is engaged when I put the it on Cable/sat initially? All cable connections are HDMI: Onkyo- fios box/dvr. Onkyo-TV. Onkyo to BR disc player. Hardware setup: HDMI control On. Power control On. TV control On. Thanks. dennis p.s. I ordered a Harmony 1 remote from amazon

What do you guys think of the Audessey Dynamic Volume (loudness changes) and Dynamic EQ (low volume optimization)?

I believe it happens because the receiver detects your TV and components powering on over the HDMI signal. Turning of TV Control in the Hardware Setup should stop it from happening.

Alternatively, turn on your TV first?

I have pretty much decided to replace my Pioneer receiver with this one. I have been using the analog outs on a BD-50 to output the new sound codecs and I am unable to equalize the speakers successfully.

My setup is as follows:

Panny BD-50
Oppo 981
Direc-TV HD
Sammy PNA50A550

My only question is can the satellite HDMI be passed through with the receiver off and still receive the signals at the TV. I seldom use the receiver while watching TV. I looked through the threads and they were inconclusive.

Thanks.

When reading the specs I can't find where this receiver decodes DD or DTS. I have a ton of old DVDs that I don't plan on ever moving to blu. Any ideas?

Thanks

Yes. It's not enabled by default, but both Audio and Video can be passed thru HDMI when the receiver is in standby mode. It's covered on page 77 of the owners manual (available at onkyousa.com)

Thanks

I can decode TrueHD and DTS-HD, and it can definitely decode the older codecs DD and DTS.

Anyone know how this compares to the Denon AVR-1610?
Will the 507 do the OSD over HDMI? I don't want to have to keep a s-video connection around just to look at my settings.

Amazon is running an unadvertised discount on the -507. Put it in your shopping cart, pick free shipping, and a discount of $51.60 is automatically applied. This message originally appeared courtesy of someone on the -607 thread ($74 discount).

I ordered a 507 yesterday from 6ave.com. They have a NameYourPrice sale and I couldn't pass up what was accepted.

Now I just have to wait 3 weeks for it to come back in stock.

I was on the fence, deciding between the 1610 and 507. They both do HDMI Audio on inputs, they both come with Audyssey setup mics. The standout differences that I saw were ...

Denon: 480P upscaling, Only need single HDMI cable to TV (regardless of input source, it can be converted to HDMI output)

Onkyo: 1 extra HDMI port, 2nd zone, cheaper, shipping sooner

I got the Onkyo for the extra HDMI port and because it was shipping sooner. All of my source components are 480P or higher already, so the upscaling wasn't too important. I can handle running 2 cables from the receiver to my TV (one HDMI and one Component).
