If you still get that rumble, you know it isn't physical contact that is producing it.

Yes, i thought that would be a good idea too but i just cant do it when the wife is home and i would have to re run MCACC again and that takes such a long time to get it right. Thanks for all your suggestions though as always they are always appreciated. The next thing i will try though is mid wall placement. Hopefully that yields the best results yet and i get what i am looking for.

I really have to get a move on the acoustic treatments but money isnt permitting right now. I am happy to gradually get this done so i can hear the improvements as i go along.

So through the use of the real traps test CD and my SPL meter, i can now see exactly why I am not thoroughly impressed with the bass from the DD. My graph is awful with some awfully huge nulls in the 16Hz-25Hz region and the 31-55Hz and then again between 80Hz-110Hz (that is the speakers). I had no clue things were so bad, take a look at the attachment.

I am definitely getting REW and really going to test my system much more seriously when i do, cause if i think it is pretty decent now, i could only imagine how it would sound if it were flat.

I have moved the subs from that position and placed them mid wall, in what is considered to be the best place, according to Audioholics but look at the response. Huge dip at 36Hz and huge peak at 56Hz. I'll play some movies and see how it sounds.

So i just watched my newly found demo scene of Percy Jackson, the minotaur scene. Here are my impressions and findings.

First off, there was not the tactile feel as before when they were flanking the couch. That feel was totally lost....(or so i thought).Bass wasnt a strong or tight as before and certainly not as focused or controlled (should i really include controlled???). I was disappointed, to say the least.

Then i decided to flip the phase switch on one of the ULSs (the one to my right) and voila.......the rumble and bass was back. It felt nice to feel it again and it did feel tighter than before when both switches were at 0.

I dont think it is better than when the subs were flanking the couch but we'll see after some more viewing.

I need to get the house straightened up before the wife gets home or she'll be pissed.....

So i mistakenly left the avr volume at -10dB after watching PJ and went and ran the test tones again. The first tone is the 10Hz tone and when it came on, all i could hear was a bunch of racket coming from the sub on the left which is the newer of the 2 ULSs i have. I sounded like when rubber is bent forward and backward. I assume thats the sub bottoming and nothing else i hope. Hope i didnt damage my sub that way. And once again teh annoying rattle is back and i am assuming it because of the feet again. Why did HSU send these feet if they rattle the sub at certain frequencies?????

Why arent you using SubDudes yet? I don't use the feet at all. You won't get any rattling using the SubDudes and some claim you get a tighter sound. I think you only get a tighter sound with down firing.

Thanks pauley but i just dont have the money to invest in that right now. I gotta gut it out and sit down and take hours to learn REW. I spent $300 (Barbados dollars which is $150 US dollars) yesterday on buying the soundcard and the necessary connections, so i just dont have the money for that now. I'm saving my money for room treatments....

Kimwyn, I, too, was intimidated by REW when I started to try to figure it out. It will get easier as you use it. It is a very powerful tool so it is hard to master. I am still finding new dimensions to its' use. It is worth the effort.

Rick, i pmed you back about the sound card and i am sure i bought the same soundcard you were trying to sell me for $20 for $150, man i hate living here for these reasons.......

See if you can find a copy of REW version 4.0. To me it is easier to use than version 5.0. The learning curve still is kinda steep, but the results are worth it. It will tell you a lot about your sub's interaction with your room.

A caution, however, that information can lead you to trappings of the bass kind - at least it did for me. I put several GIK bass traps in my room and was amazed by the results. They are not pretty to look at, but I have a very understanding wife - she understands that the rest of the house is hers but that room is MINE MINE MINE

Just fine. Been spending time in the media streamer forums. Picked up a couple of the WDTV Live Hubs and a Dune Duo player. Having fun learning how to stream HD around the house. Sure beats the quality of the old SD UHF Channel Plus modulators.

Hello all, I have read every post to date and just made my decision and pulled the trigger with Pete and ordered ULS 15 DD. I am replacing a M&K MX350 in a M&K system comprising of 3 S-150's across the front SS150s in the rear and LCR55's as side surrounds. Power is a B&K AVR 507. Signal sources are a BRD player, Direct Tv HDDVR, and XBOX 360. All video is run though a DVDO Edge in to a Mitsubishi HC 7000 onto a VuTec VuflexPro lectric 92 screen. AV components are run though a APC H10 power conditioner on its own 30 amp circuit and the Subs are on their own 30 amp service though a Mid Atlantic power conditioner. Thank you each and every one of you for your posts that contributed to my education, I spent 10 years in the car audio industry making kids puke on REAL bass and I am really looking forward to beefing up my home theater to the flat to 10 realm. On a discs to own tangent, does anyone else here have TECHMASTER PEB Bass computer one of the best bass discs ever.

So I ordered my DD on friday morning and Pete says " well we can ship out tuesday afternoon, expect them Friday" Today I see the Fedex truck pull up and I screamed like Mculey Calkin! HSU research has once again under promised and over delivered. After opening I was dumbfounded at the quality of craftsmanship on the subs. Wow the Rosenut is stunning. My wife can't wait to get them in place as part of the home decor.

Thanks Pete!

Fast shipping indeed. Congrats Donn. I bet the Rosenuts are stunning. It is common practice here to post some pics of your system, so when you get the chance we will be looking forward to them. Welcome to the DD club and also to the AVS forum.

Welcome to the club Donn. I'm hoping I bypass you soon and move up to quads soon.....LOL.

Anyway guys, i have finally gotten REW to actually work on my cpu. Cant wait to get home this evening and run some measurements of my room and make some changes to my positioning to get the flattest response for my dual drive.....I'm so excited, feel like a kid in a candy store.
