I really do not believe it is a ground loop. Only because the ULS-15 uses a two prong plug and most ground loop issues tend to happen when there is a three prong power cord involved.

Hmmm... I think I found what I'm looking for. Any suggestions on a receiver?

So even though there is the wireless, I can still use wires to the sub right? I see XLR inputs as well as the low level and high level inputs. Whats the difference in using the 3 inputs?

Balance would be cleaner?

I was wondering guys, does constant bottoming of this sub damage the sub? I ask this because I just watched X men first class on BD and that movie had my dual drive singing but I kept hearing like a bottoming noise all the time whenever the action (on the sub channel) got extremely violent. My subs' gains are too high (12 o clock) but that is where the AS EQ1 advises to put the gains. Should I be worried about the noise ( I know I should be worried) because they can damage the sub?

I answered this in the AS-EQ1 thread.

thanks Jerry. I appreciate your efforts but I asked here because I wanted to know if it could damage the sub?

If your subs are really bottoming out, yes, you could be damaging the sub. You could be stretching out and tearing the spider or the voice coil could be hitting the back plate and warp the shape of the motor. You should either get more subs, or get more powerful subs, or turn the volume down. Since bottoming out tends to only happen in the low frequencies, one thing you might do is turn the ULF trim up- my understanding is this will roll the sub off higher.

I am working on a larger theater room roughly 17X14 with 9 foot ceilings and have a ED A3-300 that currently in my family room . I have heard a few sealed subwoofers in the past and appreciate the sound especially since I listen to music and movies 50/50 .This is the leading sub of choice for me since I use hsu speakers and although I have never heard it there is concern whether I will be happy initially with its music and movie presentation compared to the ED unit. I eventually on the flip side want too get second unit but need to take care of other items for this room.

I have owned both the A3-300 and now own some ULS-15s. While the A3 is a good sub, the ULS subs are substantially better. Be aware that a ULS won't get a whole lot louder than the A3, especially at the A3's tuning point. If you want something that has straight up more output than the A3, get the VTF15h. If you want something that has roughly similar output but much better sound quality and better feature set (not to mention looks much nicer) then go for a ULS. Two ULS's is ideal because there you get bigger output alone with sharp sound quality.

We do ship to Hawaii, but it's expensive. Simply email sales@hsuresearch.com your full address to get a shipping quote.

I wrote to them. Now I'm waiting impatiently...lol

Edit: I got a quote, and its a bit much for the package I was looking at. Ill see how much it is for just the ULE-15.

Well after reading this thread over the last month and getting some first hand experience from some of you guys and talking with hsu who I already use for there excellent bookshelf speakers I am upgrading to the ULS-15 with the eventual thought to add one more down the road once I do a few other things in my listening room smile.gif. My reasons are although I have been happy with my current ported sub which is moving to another area sealed subs have always sounded a bit better to my ear .Seems over the years and into my 4th subwoofer evolution I always get talked out of them until know.
i'm still waiting on a response about shipment for the ULS alone.

Hey guys, Tron is a movie that i think all persons in here should try especially the quad owners. It was so brutal i actually turned it off for fear of damaging my already "limited" system.
Hi Kimwyn. Did you mean Tron: Legacy? If so you should try Battle: LA. In some spots of the movie it is even better then Tron.

I always use this movie to test the Quads.

It will test the output capability of any sub, but I must say it is so bloated that it does NOT show the SQ (sound quality) of the subs... biggrin.gif

Well Just got my ULS today and I am impressed already with the fit and finish instant WAF. Without a full calibration it sounds exceptionally better than my previous Subwoofer and was stated pretty well by ShadyJ ( thanks for the feedback). The low frequency output just seems to go to gutter smile.gif levels but it so smooth/effortless and thats just off of some instrumental contemporary Jazz Music I popped in for a bit. This weekend I am going to set it up properly but I can tell you all that eventually I want to get (1) more to even things out in my room.

Dr. HSU you have a winner here in this sub!!

Anyone in here running dual ULS on one single 15 amp circuit? Is that possible? would it damage the subs? would it cause any trips in teh circuit?

I have. No problems. So, it's possible.

Hope this helps.

Thanks WTF. But my question is, how hard were you driving the system? What kind of spl levels? I would assume that makes a huge difference, doesnt it?

I think there are too many variables for me to try and give a simple answer. As a general frame of reference, I have two ULS-15s and 2 MBM-12s on a 15 A circuit. I use Audyssey calibration with the conventional crossover of 80 Hz and cook the bass 3 dB hot in a medium-sized room that is open to the rest of the house.
