This photos was take by iphone .

THANKS

let me get this straight - you are saying that the audio is better from the pioneer 51 over hdmi than in the 320?

The majority concensus is that lossless audio (whether bitstreamed or decoded to lpcm) is identical amongst all players. I personally am not in that camp, but have never heard a difference between the 320 and 51 over hdmi. I will readily admit there is a difference for two channel music.

The firmware update v3.25 was available via direct internet download (LAN connection) approx. 1 week after the file appeared on Pioneer's website for download. I decided not to wait for v3.34a to be available via the LAN update process, and burned a disc this morning. Updating the player took about 5 minutes, with no issues.

I haven't plugged the ethernet in. I tried the home media stuff on my KURO and the software wasn't all that, was a pain to use. Not sure if its any different on the 320.

I have used my hmg with my sc07 and i liked it although internet radio did drop off after a while. But I connect my external hard drive to my receiver and am able to play all music through usb. This dosent work directly to 23fd via usb.Since I can't play movies on my reciever or bluray from my external hard drive I was wondering if I could play them directly from my computer via ethernet through 23 fd.

Anyone have experience with hmg?Is streaming from cumputer or watching movies stored in computer possible.

we can agree to disagree then. the 320 and 51 are identical over hdmi (unless you have a 16 bit panel that can take advantage of the 320's 48 bit processing). You probably have settings different on the models. They use the same chip and offer identical deinterlacing and chroma upsampling error performance using synthetic test discs.

I'm looking closely at the BDP-23FD to pair it with the KRP-500M. Would the Kuro Link feature on it provide much benefit compared to similar other brand quality player without the Kuro Link?

The product info on the website said: The new KURO LINK Video Adjustment System automatically switches to optimal video settings adjusted by unique parameters developed by Pioneer KURO and Blu-ray Disc player engineers.

Note that I don't own a Pioneer receiver, so this is directly related to improvement in picture quality if any between the 23FD and KRP-500M due to the Kuro Link video adjustment. Interested in hearing if people have done any comparison.

99% gimmick. At best all it does is pick one of the Settings' presets which are available to you anyway. There isn't any magic calibration or additional features that are only available via the Link.

Downloaded and burned this upgrade from the Pioneer US site this evening. The install process worked like a charm - only about 7 minutes or so. I can concur the load times for the Dark Knight were faster.

For what it's worth - the upgrade seems to have "finally" fixed the BD Live connect issue. I'm now able to finally get to the home page of the various studios and able to view the extra content on disks from the major studios (Universal/Warner Bros and Sony/Sceen Gems etc.

BDP-320 Problem...

Hoping for some help. I've got a 320 that's maybe 3 months old if that and never had any issues at all. Last night popped in a movie and it will play through all of the previews with no problems and then just freezes up. I cannot turn off the power with the remote nor the front power switch. The ONLY way to turn off the power is by pulling the plug. This took place with two different discs. Always ran like a champ and never any issues at all. I'm thinking of going back to factory settings and updating firmware.

Thoughts ?

Sorry to hear you're having trouble. Just to rule out issues. it's not in a place where it's either unable to breathe or adjacent to a heat source like a receiver is it?

What movies did you have troubel with in particular?

i would try a factory reset and then re-install firmware. It sounds more like a firmware issue in that it will function part of the time. Hopefully re-installing the firmware will sort out the issues

Movies are Netflix rentals..

Live Free or Die Hard

Bangkok Dangerous

Unit is in an area with plenty of ventilation so no potential for heat issues and away from my receiver.

I've downloaded the firmware update and will give that a go this morning and hopefully it'll sort out the issues.

I'll post results and thanks Winston!

before the fw update, try holding down stop then pressing power on, then reset factory defaults. see if that exorcises some of the demons.

Didn't see your latest post in time. However, did the factory reset followed by the firmware updater and voila.. works like a charm and back in business.

Thanks!

Great news - it has the sound of a bad firmware flash that was causing it to trip up with playback. your hardware should be fine considering it can play. these players are pretty reliable at the end of the day compared to others.

Professional should in theory provide the least enhanced/altered image. Even the Pioneer PDP setting pumps up contrast and other settings that manipulate the source.

Like most things, I would opt for what appears to look best and does not clip blacks or whites when testing with a test disc. Stored setting are nice to help create presets for quick usage, but no one can accurately callibrate your display without knowing basic issues like ambient light. trying to match the player to the display is an even further guess since pioneer's lcd setting is intended for lcds in general, which obviously vary in contrast, black levels, and refresh rate.

That was kind of my initial feeling to as it's more of a marketing ploy. Just want to get others opinion on the matter and see if anybody tried to do a comparison and can notice the difference.

Why is everyone buring discs to update their players, can't you update through ethernet port?

That being said I plugged my ethernet cable in the BDP-23FD and it says no update needed version 3.25 I am in Canada and the pioneer.ca website says version 3.34a, am I doing something wrong?

cheers

3.34a has yet to appear on the website. pioneer releases fw first on the european site for download, then on the na site for download, then available on the internet. us early adopters are too impatient to wait for it to hit the servers (3wks from eu site usually).

for me, 3.34a has been the most significant firmware update this player has received to date.

Thanks for the prompt reply Winston.

So I guess the 3.34A means Alpha stage still and it wont be officail till it says 3.34?

Cheers

who knows...it works though and makes my player a lot faster - with that, they can call it whatever they want!

Can the firmware update be done via USB flash/thumb drive?

Is burning a disk the only way to get the latest firmware?

Winston,

with this new firmware, how does it compare to the Oppo or JVC as far as loading and playing a blu-ray disc?
