For 100% sure Pioneer does NOT change PAL 50Hz to 60Hz. If your tv can't handle 50hz signal then unfortunately 'toughluck' for you

Correct.

I discovered accidently that my Pio Elite TV can handle PAL signals when I purchased an imported copy of "Amelie" on BD. Reviews of this BD said the previews and such were in PAL, but the movie was 1080/24p, so I figured I'd be fine with just being able to watch the movie. To my surprise all content played fine. My Pio player was reporting it was outputing 50hz, so it was apparent that my Pio Elite TV could handle it. Funny though, the owner's manual for the TV does not list 50hz as one of the supported formats.

That's what doesn't make any sense. Why would the LG player which is hooked up to my Sony Television play PAL fine. Yet, the Pioneer Elite gives the error.

Would switching to composite cables make any difference.

I tried it hooked up to the Pioneer TV and it still doesn't work.

Also, I just redid the firmware. No difference.

Thoughts...ideas...suggestions.

I guess for now I will use the Pioneer for NTSC DVD and Blu Ray and the LG DVD player for PAL.
yeah, it's pretty weird that a great selling point is being "hidden" by Pioneer.

Maybe Pioneer don't see it as a selling point is because a TV that can only accept NTSC is actually the exception to the norm. From my travels outside North America, I have yet to find a single display that can only display NTSC or PAL. They are all multisystem including PAL B/G/M/N, NTSC M/N/J, NTSC 3.58/4.43, and even SECAM.

If the LG is converting PAL to NTSC, then it will play PAL discs on any US TV. Still not sure that Sony TV can handle PAL. I guess you could tell by hooking up the "working" 23 to the Sony TV and see what happens. That should establish whether or not the Sony can handle PAL.

Since there is no HDMI handshake involved, that may possibly work.

So the Pio 23 that would not play PAL on the Sony TV also will not play PAL on the Pioneer TV? Do you have the resolution on the 23 set to "Auto" (not sure about this, but worth a try?)? Perhaps the 23 is not recognizing that the Pio TV can handle PAL? If so, then try unplugging the 23 for a few hours, then reconnect it via HDMI (to a separate HDMI input than your other 23 that works) to the Pio TV. I'm thinking that this will force the TV and 23 to "talk" to each other again so the TV can "tell" the player what it can handle. If that doesn't work, you may have to contact Pioneer for service as there may be something wrong with the player.

Well, I bit the proverbial bullet and bought the BDP330 that was on sale at Best Buy and it works on my Sony. Can't for the life of me figure out why. Oh well, if anyone has any ideas to get the 23FD to work please let me know as I will return the 330 to BB for a full refund (which I would prefer!).

P.S. Thanks in advance for your help and assistance on this frustrating problem
post #4657 of 6330
I strongly recommend anybody against the BDP-330. It's just a rebadged Sharp.
I'm completely disgusted with rebadged anything and then selling it at a premium price. (as my post history can back up my statement. I'll slam any company that can only do rebadging)

At $299, I agree its an absolute rip-off. But at $150 currently on amazon, its not a bad deal for a buyer who just wants a Pioneer fascia to match a new 1020 or 1120 AVR
Especially if the buyer is just a basic user who don't need video adjustment menu etc
post #4659 of 6330
being in Canada, we only can only get the player at full MSRP (about $350) Yes, at $150 at Amazon (with its free shipping), it's a no brainer to get the the 330.

Is there any way to show the hours on a 23FD without a Harmony remote?

Also, any suggestions where to get the battery cover for the remote?

Thanks

Is the fan suppose to spin all the time?
I was re-wiring something last night and I noticed the fan wasn't spinning at all, the player has been on for about an hour but it stayed pretty cool.
nope. my fan never spins. I put the BD player in very well ventilated area that is always cool in temperature even during the hottest day of summer.

Update****

Rather than sell the 320 or give it to a nephew, I decided to buy a Pro-111FD and sold the Sony LCD and BD player.

Amazing how one thing can lead to another.

Sorry if this has already been answered.

I'm trying to set audio options for Dolby Digital 2 and DTS 2 but my player is not letting me. I have it connected to new Pioneer VSX 1120 receiver I just purchased.

Any help would be appreciated.

Anyone else have trouble playing all the Spears & munsil patterns on a 329?
Is there a way to get to the 320's service menu, I want to check total hours on my unit.
I have a harmony remote so I'm wondering if anyone has the right IR code?

I called Pioneer today regarding a lot of BDs which the Pio does not play, especially from one label. They will send me a new firmware 3.68a which is not officially available and is supposed to fix the compatibility issues.

Can you specify a couple of titles you have that won't play on the 320? I've had a couple that paused -- a stop/restart always fixed it, but none that wouldn't play at all.

These are European titles from Studio Canal / Kinowelt like Raw Deal, Red Sonja, Tin Drum DC etc. They don't play at all.

My first thought was that these are region B locked titles. Raw Deal (UK version from Elevation Sales) is listed on www.blurayregioncodes.com as region free, so if you have the UK version that blows that theory out of the water. The others you mentioned aren't listed on the Region B tab.

Are you sure those titles are region free?
Have a look where I come from. I am from Germany. I have a Region B player and Region B titles.

Btw. my Pio 320 and LX52 are able to play Region A locked BDs. I managed to play Mad Max and Seven Samurai. It's not easy though. You have to push the right buttons at the right time to skip the region check.

For anyone interested I was in the 6TH Ave Electronics store in Woodbridge, NJ on Route 1 and they had 3 Pioneer BDP-320 players left on the showroom floor for $149 ea new in the box.
Thanks for the info. 70383roadrunner. I just bought those three units today. Picked up a second one for the bedroom, one for a family member, and one for a friend. They showed one more in stock not on the floor FYI.

I had issues with Public Enemies BD in my 320. It loaded and played the previews but then hung on the top menu with a blank screen for a very long time. I tried loading it again and it got to the same point and the player seemed to freeze. I put it into my Sony BDP-S1000ES and it loaded fine, and much faster I might add. I was going to go test it on my 23FD as it seems faster than my 320. I will post if I have the same issues with that player.

That's great. Nice to see they are going to a good home. Do you live in NJ or are they shipping them to you?

So I just got the new Pioneer VSX-1120, and was wondering if I should buy the Pioneer BDP-320 or 330. As I've heard and read, the 330 is two lbs lighter and is a rebadged Sharp player (totally obvious), but I liked the iPhone connectivity to match the 1120. But what are the other differences between the two and is it worth losing the quality of the 320 for a 330 with iPhone control?
Hey folks, just read in the first page that our BDP-320 allows us to change gamma. How do I go there?

Ignore please. Found it from the manual on page 34, http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/ep...ctions0223.pdf

Apology.
