Pioneer BDP-320/BDP-23FD Owner's Thread - Page 210

I ordered a bluray from England (MotoGP 2012 Review) and it says on the back of the bluray: "Region Code - 0 All Regions." But when I put the disc in my Pioneer Elite bdp-23FD player it says it's a "B Region" disc on the tv screen and it won't play.

It says all of this on the back of the box:

Running time:
207 mins

Picture Format:
Colour
Blu-ray
SYSTEM 16:9

Region Code:
0 ALL REGIONS

Sound Format:
STEREO
E

It's not a movie studio film production. It's a sports disc that shot the 2012 MotoGP Championship. I got the disc from England. It's not sold in the U.S.

Are the new Pioneer bd players region free and do they have 'Source Direct' mode?

And my 320 says "Unknown Disc" when I load Supertramp Live In Paris '79. Anyone else with the same issue (with that disc)?

Upgraded the firmware to 3.73 (was in 3.70), erased all storage, still the same. Other discs play fine.

How annoying... mad.gif

When was the newest FW released? I haven't used my BDP-23 for quite a while now.

Sorry for the bump...

It seems that no one here has that disc, would you suggest any other place to research before complaining to Pioneer?

I don't have any other player within reach to test the disc. Unless I take it to the mall.

Thanks,

VMat

I just picked up the disneys WOW disc on BR, and it wont play in my 320. I tried it at my sisters and it works but when i put it into the 320 it just says "cannot play". Firmware is up to date, any reasons why it wouldn't play this?

If I remember I will try that disc in my 320 to see if it will play.

If it were the region code, you'd very likely get same error from your sister's player.

It's probably new software in the disc that the firmware in the 320 does not understand. Same issue that I'm having with the Supertramp concert, I guess.

ahh, hmm might try e-mailing pioneer and see what they say. I guess this gives me an excuse to buy an oppo 103 lol

On a side note, i have 2 BD discs that will play for 30 min at a time then the picture goes all funny like the disc is scratched, would this be a similar issue? or the disc itself, as i returned 1 disc and they gave me a new one and same issue.

Hi VMat.

Sorry for the late response. I don't have that title, but if you want I'll see if its available from Netflix and try it in my 320. Just let me know.

Figure I owe you a favor since you helped me make my 320 DVD region free. smile.gif

Oops....I should have checked first....don't see that title on Netflix. redface.gif

Hey, how's it going?

No need to go to such length, unless you do want to watch the concert. But thanks, anyway! smile.gif

I'm going to the mall today, will take the disc with me to try it in a different player. Just to make sure it is not a defective disc.

One thing I didn't mention before: it's the Brazilian version of the title, distributed by ST2. They usually don't do any crazy re-authoring as far as I know (I have one more Blu-ray and some DVDs from ST2 that play fine), but they do insert a couple of short clips with their logo among the menus. Maybe that's what's causing the issue.

Back from the mall. The disc played in an LG player. So, I'm ruling out the disc being defective. frown.gif

Now let's see what kind of support I can get from Pioneer.

Thanks! That's probably good news for Hostility.

I'll try to e-mail Pioneer and see if they still have the 320 in their firmware roadmap.

In the meantime, if anyone could confirm that the Supertramp concert will (or won't) play in a 320, I'm all ears!

Thanks again,

VMat

I have the BDP-23FD and I have owned it for about a year and half. Have never had problems. Performed the update when I first bought it. Tried playing "Prometheus" and it wouldn't play. Looked online for another update and couldnt find one. Then I put in a regular DVD and I have no picture. The HDMI red light flashes along with the 24hz and 60hz lights cycle back and fourth. Has anyone had this problem before? I hooked up a regular componet video and changed the setting from HDMI to Componet and now I had a picture. Tried to go back to HDMI and I have sound but no picture still. Any help would be great. Thanks.

You may want to try this. I mean, if you don't mind losing whatever is stored in the player's memory...

The results were golden, it now plays fine and boy does it ever. I have yet to relax and watch this entire movie but the few minutes I spent testing out the material caused my RF-7s to get excited.

Tried Prometheus last night in my 320, but it wouldn't play. Cleared the memory like you did, but still no go. It's a Netflix rental; looks pristine and I cleaned it, but it just won't play. I've ordered another copy; hopefully that will help. Other BDs and DVDs play fine (ended up watching Brave on BD instead) so I don't think it's a laser issue.

Any other suggestions?

Oh, and yes, I'm using the latest firmware, v3.73.

I tested it again last night to make sure the disc still worked in the 320, and it does. I'm sorry I can't be of help as to why it won't play in yours, but just wanted to pass along the info.

ahh, didnt know you could clear memory, makes sense i guess as the WOW disc uses a lot of memory to play. Now how do you do this? i take it some where in the menu? ill try this when i get home from work tonight! thanks

Get the manual, there's a section named "Erasing data that has been added to BDs and application data". In my (digital) version, it starts at page 44. I won't post it here because it's a bit too long.

WOW disc. No problem on my 320.

Do you guys have external memory hooked up to yours? i might try that. If not the only other thing i could think of is rolling back the firmware and trying it on an older firmware.

Greetings all,
Previously my 320 w last firmware update wouldn't play Netflix Prometheus but my Best Buy cheapo would. Btw this insignia plays anything that is loaded. Anyway after gleaming info from here I cleared BR memory and switched color output to 0-255 from auto and my Pannys input to auto and Bam! It plays. Thanks to all.
