Looks like the 630 is the top LCD with the matte screen. I really don't like the looks of it physically as much from the photos. Also does anyone know if there will be any new 8 series LCDs for 2009?

Problem is once I swap I'm done there will be no way to exchange so I have to make the right decision up front.

I think the 8 series and the 9 series will now be called the 8000 and the 9000 series both are LED backlit. 8 series being LED Edgelit and the the new 9000 series being local dimming. CNet posted about the 9000 today.

I don't think it'd be wise to turn down the B750 for a B630.
Mostly because you can customize the dejudder and blur on a scale of 1-10 for each on the B750 and I don't believe that is an option on the B630 (I think you only get low med and high)
Also, with the B750, you get.
240hz vs. 120hz
1 more HDMI input
2ms faster response time
Higher contrast ratio (Some may say this is debatable as to how different it truly is.)
Also, I'm sure there are other picture quality controls available on the B750 not available on B630.

Is there a difference?

Sorry for the newbie question, but it seems that some people interchange these 2 terms, and to me, they are quite different.

A little background, my old tv was a Sony KP-43HT20 (720p), and all I ever did with it was change the settings. It ran for 7 years before dying last week.

Yesterday, I ordered the ln46b750, and it should arrive Monday (from Amazon), and what I want to know, is there and actual "calibration" that needs to be done, or do I simply customize the settings to my personal preference?? I once heard of a calibration DVD, is that something I need to get??

TIA.

There's a few calibration DVDs- Avia and DVE are the most popular. DVE is also available on Bluray.

Any A750 owners have or compared this yet? The price has dropped ridiculously already, lower than what I paid for my A750 late last year. Someone may want to buy my TV, because I got it looking really nice.

wonder if there is anything to be gained.

Has anyone seen any hint of auto dim on the B750?

I only experience slight dimming when changing channels and I see it in the channel headers (ie channel name, program name, border, etc.). Other than that, regular TV programming, Blu-ray, etc. looks fine.

On our gloss screen A860 there is no glare fairly straight on, but plenty at the reflective angle to a large window on an adjacent wall. But we don't care and are glad for the pop we get from the gloss screen.

Later, we picked up a matte screen A630 for my Dad because he has the same room layout, but his window is much closer to the set. The glare is less, and the picture is still fantastic. But, even at that, he discovered, on his own, to swivel the screen away from the window to further reduce glare. Glad we didn't get him a gloss screen. Whew.

In normal viewing conditions the screen is as close to perfect as a non local dimming LED set can come.

bpmurr,
When you have a blank input in a dark room do you notice slight flashlights on the left and right around 6 to 8 inches from the bottom...I do. They seem to be perfectly aligned horizontally from each other. They're not bad by any means...I was just curious. Thanks.

It can be turned off. It just depends on your settings. It's not like the Luxia series that does the always on backlight pumping.

For example, the faces lose clarity when watching someone getting interviewed as they move their face back and forth. I've tried adjusting the AMP using all of the different presets and setting it to custom (Blur 10, Judder 6).

I don't have a blu-ray player. But I am wondering if I would see the same behavior with blu ray movies as I do cable. I've also seen the blurriness happen with Xbox Live HD Movies (Bedtime Stories).

Will I see better motion performance in a blu ray movie?

I had a 50" plasma before and didn't notice so much motion blur.

Thanks!

Make sure that any Digital Noise Reduction settings are off, I noticed this on my 52a630 and after I turned it off it went away. Over compression could be another issue as well. (stick with blu-rays, these "HD" movie downloads are usually highly compressed)

Another thing is that Plasma has a much higher motion resolution than LCD for most sets, and that might be what you are seeing as well....

Even so, I do not experience any interference at all like the 850. With the 850, the remote did not work period for 5 to 10 minutes when the TV was turned on and then when it did work to perform any function or change channels I had to hold down buttons for about a second each. With the B750 everything works all the time and the remote is extremely responsive even from 15-20 feet away. Personally, I can live with having to point the remote more in the general direction of the receiver, and I wouldn't have even thought twice about it if I had not read your post. BTW, I have a TV stand that the TV sits on with a glass door cabinet below and to the right that holds my A/V and VIP622 receiver.

To clear the record, I would like to retract my above response regarding minor IR interference. After I went home last night I thought that I would confirm my observations. Since my son was using the chair that I normally set in to view TV, I sat on the end of the couch which is next to the chair at an angle. What I found here is that I could point my sat. remote in any and every direction and it worked flawlessly and responsively. However, when I moved back to my chair I did need to point it a little more directly towards the receiver. Upon closer inspection, I realized that when I recently moved my VIP622 in the cabinet that I had slightly covered the IR sensors with the grill that covers the glass door (i.e. the decorative trim that makes the door look like a paned window). Hence my perceived slight IR interference issue was nothing but self-induced "interference". Therefore, I reiterate my personal experience in my original review of the set that I have absolutely zero (0) perceived IR interference with the B750.

Well, I finally pulled the trigger and ordered the 46in B750 from Amazon.
Cost issues aside and the great deal I got at Amazon, what made my decision easier was the lack of significant reports on this forum regarding screen uniformity, flashlighting and clouding with this particular model.

While I was considering the edge lit LED models, what turned me off to them more than anything was the off angle viewing issues seen with even the best of the LED sets. We will be viewing our new TV at a distance of about 5 or 6 feet on a wide couch and want everyone sitting there to see the best possible color. While I do expect the new, more expensive local dimming LED sets will offer better PQ, I'll bet the viewing angle issue will always be there with LED technology and a deal breaker for me. Hence, I decided not to wait any longer.

I believe the b750 will gives the viwing angle advantage of the old CFL technology with potential advantages of the new 240Hz and quicker 2 micsec refresh rates seen in the more expensive top end LED sets. I can't wait to get my TV and let you all know whether this was the right decision.
I am pretty sure this has been asked before but I need to know before actually hitting the buy button. How bad is the glare? I have a large bay window to the left of where the TV will go.

I was wondering if an owner could respond to a question I asked about the b750's yesterday, and whether or not they have true dual 16x9 hd pip signals? I know it sounds picky, but this was really cool on last years a750's and a850's and very useful on occasion. I really dig the new look of the b750's and I'm excited at all the good reports from current owners, but I'd just like to know if I should maybe look at last year's models instead. I have owned a b650, 2 b7100's, and now a b6000 and they all have a squashed dual pip...among other issues. Also can anyone comment with regards to how this years b750's compare pq-wise to last years a750's. Any info would be appreciated.

Is there any real visual improvement with this being a 240hz set as opposed to a 120hz one?

That clinches it for me. The IR interference with other Samsung models was unacceptable. Sounds like Samsung listened.

I would also like to know about this. How well does the PIP work?

Thank you for the suggestion. I've made sure to turn it off. I'd really like to see a Blu Ray before I make my final decision. I've been through a few TVs over the past few years. I need just relax and enjoy the set.

I'd still like to know if I'll see less blurring with Blu Ray. No one's addressed that yet.

After waffling between A series and B series sets over the last couple o' weeks I just purchased a 46B750. Now the wait for a few days for arrival. . .

Before I go and purchase the Sammy wireless dongle, has anyone had success in using a wireless bridge (I'm considering the Linksys WET610N) to network this TV. I would expect it would work well, but before committing to a third party solution outside the scope of Sam's technical support I thought I'd see what owners are experiencing.

(I'm thinking of also getting the P-1600 BD player so this bridge should allow me to wirelessly network both devices for less than the cost for two dongles.)

When amazon brings it to your house do they put the stand on for you?

Additionally, to help you in this issue, I am getting a professional install and I will be posting my calibrations on the other forum. I hope others will do the same.

Well I finally pulled the trigger on the 52b750 and ordered from Amazon today. Great deal. Can't wat until it comes in and start playing with it. I am anxious to "copy" the various calibration and settings that have and will be posted. This purchase completes a 3 month updating of my entire audio and video system. I want to thank everyone and the hundreds if not thousands of postings I have read on many different threads and forums. I plan to continue my daily review of the expert opinions and advice.

I used a wireless bridge that worked so flawlessly that it scared me. Both by B650 and B1600 are networked through it (along with my 360, Wii and DirecTV box).

From what I've read on here so far the B750 has an ati-reflective coating on it. Does anyone know how sensitive it is to clean? I have a pioneer 111FD and everything I've read about the coating says to only clean with microfiber cloth, and distilled water. Is the same cleaning method recommended for the B750 or can it be cleaned with regular screen cleaners?

In my case, they did not. But the set is pretty light (at least lighter than my plasma) and is pretty easy to insert the tv into the stand.

Can some of you B750 owners post some pics with different light conditions and angles.

I can't really comment on the PIP since I don't use it. However, I've posted more detailed opionion reqarding the PQ in previous posts. I've had the A850 and now the B750 as a replacement to it. After watching the A850 for about 2 months and now having my B750 for about 2 weeks, I personally find the B750 picture to be noticably improved over the A850. It produces richer blacks, deeper colors, and better contrast all without the clouding and flashlighting issues that I had with my A850.
