Put me down as moderate and May 2009.

I'm moderate also. June 2009. However, I will say that it does not affect picture quality that I can tell. It just bugs me when the tv is off and I see it.

Hey, guys has anyone measured black levels on these TVs with a meter? I'd be interested to know how dark they can get.

Thanks.

I would suggest setting your Tivo to also send 720p. There are quite a few HD stations that broadcast in 720p (Fox, ABC, ESPN, etc) and the TV will do a better job scaling than the Tivo more than likely. Also by doing this you are making the Tivo interlace the signal and then the TV de-interlace the signal again. Sending 720p the TV only has to scale and not do any de-interlacing. Motion will be alot smoother for 720p signals if you send the TV the station's native 720p.

I will have to take the 'bad screen' pics during the day. The lighting at night played more tricks with the screen than I anticipated. I did attach various screen shots to share. (please excuse the amateur photographer skills)

They are titled:

My 73837 looks flat to me.

Can someone take a picture of the screen when its off that shows the bowing?

Yeah I ended up changing the Tivo setting to native and letting the TV do the scaling. Thanks.

Although I haven't purchased the 82" TV yet, I have purchased the stand. I got the Bell'O AVS-2572 stand.

Although they say that this stand is for 72" TV's, it was really built for the Sony DLP that had large speakers on the sides of it. This stand is 73.5" wide (the TV is 73.2" wide).

I bought it on ebay for a total of $350, including shipping. Most other places have it for $700+.

The ebay seller that I purchased it from currently has them listed for $229 + $180 shipping (she set the shipping too low when I bought mine).

The current ebay listing is here

1. My 73837 arrived on time and not damaged.

2. Screen is flat and not bowed. (June 2009 production date)

3. Picture Quality is great on HD and much better than I expected on SD.

4. Antenna tuner appears better than on my Sony 52W4100.

5. Blacks are better than my Sony.

6. Geometry is very good, checked using the geometry slide on the DVE disk.

Why am I mad? I am mad at myself for waiting so long to decide to buy this HDTV

Got the call from the delivery company this morning. My 65837 should be here Wednesday morning.

update on black stripe on 4 minute life of a new 65837. Mit's says it's the LE. Be a week before it's fixed as of now.
Any polls on how my luck holds out? Will replacement LE be good/bad, crushed box, etc.

Just got my 82" today. They took away my 73" and left the behemoth in its place. The best part of all... They left the old remote from the 73"... AND IT WORKS!! The Geometry looks great! Less overscan by far than my 73" had. Now to get some time on the bulb so I can steal y'alls calibration setting. I will post pics later tonight. I am giddy as a school girl!

For those of you that have a PS3 that is used as a BRD player, do you have your input named PS3 or Blu-Ray? It seems that you can only specify which game system you have for the input when you intially plug in the connector. Is there anyway to do this without unplugging/plugging in the HDMI cable?
I know that every set is unique, but does anyone with an 837 have calibrated settings that they would be willing to post up?
I wished i had a reason to buy a new Mits DLP. My almost 4 year old Mits 52628 keeps on ticking away without one problem and is still on the factory bulb. Maybe one day it will bite the bullet so i can buy a bigger DLP.

I've got some good pics of it. I just need to find the time to get them posted. The distortion isn't really all that drastic, but does make a difference compared to one without.

I measured the bow tonight. I stretched a piece of thread across the center of the screen from top to bottom and there is 1/2" from the thread to the screen at the center.

For comparison, my 732 is 3/16" on the same measurement.

Dude......get one. They are so sweet. I wondered how I could get a better picture than my 51" Toshiba CRT back in '07, and here I am on my second new DLP. No, not because of problems, but because of my own egotistical reasons. 65" just wasn't cutting it anymore. I got the 73837. Now, I am almost regretting not waiting for the 82, since my local B&M is selling the 82837 for $3700.

I first went from the 51" Toshiba CRT to the 65" Mits DLP. It was grand. I say pull the trigger and get at least the 65837. If you can duplicate my $2k 73837 deal, then jump on that one.

$3700 for an 82" 837?? That would be an incredible deal. I have had my 82" for about 5 hours now and all I can say is WOW! The picture is better than my 73835 (colors are not as accurate as I have not calibrated) and the out of the box is far superior to my 73835. I am also really impressed with my minimal overscan.

got my 73737 set up and running last friday and didn't immediateyl notice the noise but when the kiddo went to bed and we turned the set volume down to normal levels it is definitely annoying to say the least. It does it no matter what input or material the set is playing. Additionally if you power off it lasts for a few seconds. I called HH Gregg and they said that several Mitsu DLP's were reported with this problem and to call into support since I had the extended warranty...my dilemma (if you can call it that) is do I do that or return the TV for a new set. They are sayining the color wheel may need adjusting...I can't imagine any adjument on a spinning disk and also am concenred over the amount of time and/or if the technician will struggle to fix the problem...any thoughts and/or opinions on course of action aprpecaited in case someone else has already faced similar situation.

Thanks for the time!

Between my dad's and my 5 most recent Mits DLPs, we have never had a problem with "quiet time" sound being overrun by color wheel/fan noise. It could be an acoustic/sensitivity thing, but the noise shouldn't be over any listenable volume. Never has been for us, anyway.

Could have been 3799, but still........SHWEEEEEET!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oddly enough, the same salesman (at that store) who sold me the 73837 for 2k when they were fresh at 3k must have gotten in trouble.

I tried to get a spare TV for the bedroom, and he refused to deal with me. He said he would sell it to me for no less than the advertised price. This was the 40" Toshiba LCD (40RV525R). I told him I could order it for $150 less and he said "SO."

Said he'd never sell me another TV.

METHINKS he got in trouble.

Am I correct in thinking that the ISF Advanced Adjustment makes it so you can do the Service Menu adjustments without having to go into the Service Menu?

Sort of.

They took the adjustments out of the service menu. They are also different than they were in the service menu.

High and low RGB are the same for grayscale, but the color calibration requires RGB adjustments for each color. Instead of having Hue, Saturation, and Gain controls, The amount of RGB in each combine to control all 3 at once.

For example, Yellow is made up of red and green. You can shift Yellow toward green or red by changing the R or G setting. You can adjust Y-value by increasing or decreasing red ang green equally. You can change saturation by adding blue. Also, if you increase red and green to increase Y value, it also makes if more saturated, so you have to add blue to desaturate, which also raises Y-value a little more, so it takes some jockeying to dial it in just right.

Primary colors are adjusted similarly, except it's easier because all colors have RGB adjustments for color calibration. So for Green, green adjusts saturation, and red and blue shift the hue of green.

go to main menu/input/name

you must be in another input to make change and the audio and video settings will change to default

see a couple pages back for my PS3 settings

Sorry you're having trouble.

Just as a point of interest, I don't hear any noise from my WD-65737, even when it's very quiet in the room. I've seen other posts on here with similar problems, and saw that a service tech was able to resolve it. If I remember correctly, they just replaced the color wheel assembly, but I could be wrong about that.

If you can return the TV for a replacement, that is an option - but it also seems like quite a hassle. It may be easier to get a service tech to come out and just deal with the problem in-home.

Good luck and I hope it all works out to your complete satisfaction.

Just curious. Are you using the tuner to receive OTA signals or are you connected to cable?
Hi, this is my first post on this site. I tried to read all the previous posts the best I could. I'm about to purchase a 73837 new off eBay from a reputable dealer. The deal is $2,200 with free shipping and an extended warranty from cpscentral for an extra year. I believe it might cover the bulb. Will I experience any lag with my DLP when used for gaming? Also I'm putting this in my theater room I'm setting up 12.6W x 16L. (Enclosed room with no closet or anything)
I'm trying to map out how far I should put the couch back because I'll also be ordering a set of Intimus 4T-CB Hybrid SD 7.1speakers for $2,157.00. (I'm thinking 12ft back for the couch) I'm really afraid of this bowing issue. I have not been able to find any professional reviews of 837 series. How afraid of getting one these bowed TVs should I be? Is it possible to look for a particular build date to avoid the issue? Has anyone figured that out?
If any could please answer these questions I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks

$2200.00 for a 82837? I would be afraid. Very afraid....
