This is called vignetting. It is most often seen when there is a fault or design fault in the optical path of lens system. On cameras, it could be caused by a bad flash, bad lense design, shutter problems.

The effect is often used in contrent as a dramatic or stylistic element . If you are seeing this on full screen images where you know it is not designed into the content, then there is a serious problem with your set.

Hey guys,

I've got 3,581 hours on my original lamp and still going fairly strong. I recently turned up the brightness a little bit since I could detect slightly less light output overall, but that's it. I suppose it might start going downhill faster now?

Since this TV runs almost all-day, every day, I knew I would burn thru my first bulb faster than most of you, but I'm totally satisfied with 3,581+.

He gladly gave me one and I proceeded to check to see if the 82" was on brilliant or not. Apparently the 82-837 series does not have a brilliant mode??? Neither the salesman or I could find it. I was a little surprised as just the week before I adjusted an 82" set to brilliant at a Mathis Bros, but that set was the 82-737 series. I could swear that the 73-837 sitting next to the 82-737, at Mathis Bros, had a brilliant setting that we set it to...

Anyway, we checked the 73-738 model and it had brilliant, we set it to that and OMG that set looked unbelievably good...almost as good as the Laservue. The LV was extremely bright from all vertical and horizontal angles and its color was extremely rich, the 73-738 was very nice and bright in brilliant mode and the color was very nice too...I do have to say that the 73-738 looked much better than the 73-837 we saw last week. The 73-738 was sitting on top of a 3' tall stand so it was way above our seated eye level and it still didn't have any significant degredation to the picture. Unfortunately the 82-837 did have the "sweet spot" syndrome and was sitting way too high as compared to our seated eye level.

Of course, the 82" lacked the "pop" sitting in between these other two sets but it still had a good picture. If I could only have been able to get the 82" into brilliant mode I'm sure it would've looked much better.
- Do the xx-738 series models not offer a brilliant mode or were we missing something???

The salesman said that their store was the largest selling 82" Mitsu store in California and that he has never received any complaints from those who had bought the 82" set. He claimed many of the buyer's neighbors would soon come in and purchase an 82" set after seeing it in thier neighbor's home. I have to give the salesman credit as he was EXTREMELY knowledgable about all the sets and the features each series had, or didn't have...(Is it possible that he lurks in these forums too?)

How much were they asking for the 73-738 in store?

Just curious, because a guy in another thread ordered a 73c9 online for 1500 and since they were out of stock, they upgraded him to the 73-738. I was amazed because they are asking 2,700 online for it.

In my opinion Brilliant mode is as useless as teats on a boar hog but, but that is subjective. It is a wildly in accurate mode out of the box though.

I literally cannot watch my 82837 in Brilliant. I have to turn away or risk permanent damage to my retinas.

i know my 65737 tv only has it on one of the inputs, i think its the first hdmi input. thats why you couldn't get it to work. they must of had it in a different input.

Friends came over and we watched Star Trek on BR. Wow! Very impressed considering the TV hasn't even broken in yet.

Other than the geometry problems I'm very pleased with the set!

Well, looks like the light engine on my newly replaced 60737 is going out. The TV is barely two months old and I've already started getting the "uneven lighting/black level" that I got with my last set. Any ideas on what could be causing the exact same thing to happen again so soon?
I kindly ask everyone who has these sets to put a completely black image up on screen with the room dark and see if the can detect the uneven black level and report back.

I would like to see if I can figure out how wide spread this may be.

It is disconcerting that you are having this problem again, Blink325. I have a tech coming out to replace the light engine for exactly the same black level issues. This set is also a replacement for a wd-65835 that developed the same issue after just going out of warranty.

It's hard to believe that it is as wide spread as it seems to me in my experiences considering how picky some of you all are.

I posted a couple of days ago that I also see it. I only notice when the screen is black a few seconds before the start of a DVD/blu-ray movie. The funny thing is when I see it I don't think it is a fully black screen, like a sceen that is at video black or blacker than black. I have not seen it on a fully black screen. At any rate I will be calling Mits after you report back with your replaced LE.

Hey guys i'm looking up and down this thread and can't pinpoint the geometry details for my dvi to hdmi pc connection. Like a lot of us I get overscan and haven't found a way to fix it. I also don't have the stock control and am not sure how to manually move the grid through the service menu (2-4-5-7) then 0. I notice the yellow cursor moving but from there I don't know what to do cause when I hit enter or ok the grid dissapears. Also does the service menu only consist of the initial horizontal and vertical settings or is there more settings to be toyed with? Aside from that all I've understood the service menu contains is the settings when you hit 0, Is this correct?

You move the cursor and hit enter for each point. Took me a bit to figure it out. You can do multiple points by pressing the >> or << buttons. Hitting enter saves the changes.

Thanks! Now I know at least somethings supposed to happen but now I got tofigure out how to get my worthless universal control to hit enter
post #7575 of 10993
I don't recommenced using a universal remote while in the service menu. Don't make me say I told you so.

Looks pretty fantastic except for that.

Power off your TV, then when powering it on, hold in the power button for around 10 seconds or so. This should fix that. It's happened to me 2x now

Since this TV runs almost all-day, every day, I knew I would burn thru my first bulb faster than most of you, but I'm totally satisfied with 3,581+.

I replaced mine over the weekend at over 3,000 logged hours, but since I originally had the 11.00 firmware that didn't count hours the first few months, was actually higher than that by some unknown number but probably at least as high as your total (and I wouldn't be surprised if it was actually over 4,000 hrs). I didn't replace the bulb because it died --I replaced it because I had ordered a spare to have on hand and wanted to make sure it was good before the 3 month warranty on it ran out.

Well, it is good. I was also surprised that it seemed noticeably brighter to me than the old one. Maybe I shouldn't have been surprised, but I was. This is our 60" set (which would be the brightest of the bunch because they all have the same lamp and thus the smallest would be brightest per sq in). I felt it was still plenty bright when I did the switch (again, I was just ensuring I tested that new lamp while it was under warranty), but it is even brighter now. Yes, that might have implications for folks with bigger sets like the 73" and 82" sets re when they might want to consider changing lamps even if the old one is still working (and if they don't have a lamp warranty that requires the lamp to be dead before it can be replaced under warranty --which is why I don't do lamp warranties).

Thanks but swapping cables seemed to fix it for me.

Hello everybody I'm new to this thread and I was wondering if my new Mitsubishi WD-65837 has any firmware updates that I need? The only problem I'm seeing so far on my set is the overscan. Just curious any advice!!!

Are you sure you don't have it zoomed in? Overscan on a PC is normal but on normal sources shouldn't be present. Or maybe I should say it's always present but generally accounted for.

I have the TV set to standard for blu-ray player and cable!!! Is this right?

Should be. I think that's what mine is set to for my sat box.

Normally you adjust for overscan in the graphic driver control application. The TV is always going to overscan by design. To get the computer image to show fully on the screen means it has to be either scaled or it needs to be rendered using fewer pixels. What kind of graphics chip do you have?

Yeah, but he's talkin cable box not PC.

I wanted to ask if this is normal. When I power up the 65" (C9) The green 'status' light blinks like crazy and it takes a while for the picture to come on.. and when it does.. it's a blue welcome to Mitsubishi splash screen. Then it pops over to normal cable TV.. but very dark and washed out.. within 1-2 mins it clears up and looks fine. Is this normal 'warm up' time or is it behaving oddly??

Other than the taking 1-2 minutes to clear up, that seems normal. Mine takes about 30 seconds to get to full brightness once the blue splash screen hits.

Thanks for everyones input about my Mitsubishi WD-65837 overscan!!!! But what about firmware updates does anyone know if any are available?Just curious, my set is not even a week old.
Search the FAQ for firmware. That's got the latest reported. No details on 11.02 tho.

Amazon has Mits 3D starter kit on pre-order. . . for $399.

http://www.amazon.com/Mitsubishi-3DC...5946621&sr=8-1

No preorder listed yet for stand-alone 3DC-1000 for those who already have the Nvidia setup for glasses and emitter. . . or those of us who have two Mits 3D sets and don't need double the number of glasses.

At least it comes with its own HDMI cable at that price!
Ah, Vanns has it as well for pre-order, with a pic

One estimated shipping date I saw at a different site was 7/9/2010. That would suck for peeps hoping to watch the WorldCup in 3D on their Mits.
