If you can still play it, it's not worthless. I have the Dreamcast version, and I won't be selling it. But my 16 year old wants it on XBLA, so he'll probably end up buying it. The 360 is the only console he plays now.

I always liked the game, but I never thought it was worth the crazy prices the Xbox and PS2 versions are selling for. But then, like I said, I already have the Dreamcast to play.

Simple supply and demand. The supply will increase(via 360/PSN download) and the demand will drop.....slightly. There will always be a market for the physical copy of this game, but I expect the $80 pricetag to drop to something more 'reasonable' like $50. Have a look at amazon or ebay, you'll already see a slight drop in prices, coinciding with an increase in availability as people scramble to sell their copies before the game hits 360/PS3.

Oh, I know about the supply and demand aspect for this game. It's just that at even $50, there isn't any demand from me.

yeah yeah showoff I had the game for dreamcast years ago, crazy that it's now worth twice what I paid for it 8 years ago.

I'm still gonna hold onto my DC copy. Had it not been for online play I would've passed on this completely. Also I can't say I'm a big fan of the widescreen addition it just looks completely off.
Off to practice on a few combos, good thing the DC & 360 controllers have identical button layouts.

PS3 demo is up now for those interested.

It seems the game is restricted to 4:3 so while 16:9 is an option you'll be treated to a lovely invisible wall.

Also the game does look more natural when set to the classic filter.

I really hope they rebalance some of the characters and most importantly, remove those infinite air combo BS. Nothing more frustrating than getting caught in an air combo and have it take out the rest of your health.

I can't wait for this, I used to play XvsSF much more than this but it's mostly the same... I think this was the last game I played in an actual arcade.

Street Fighter IV would be better compared to Capcom vs. SNK 2. This is a completely different style of fighting, at least, in the fighting game realm.

Marvel VS Capcom 2 features the biggest roster of challengers to ever square off in a Capcom fighting game, a total of 56 combined brawlers from both the Capcom and Marvel universes. From the world of Capcom comes characters such as Ryu from the Street Fighter series, Jill Valentine from the Resident Evil games and unofficial company mascot Mega Man®. Marvel is represented by some of its biggest names, including the Invincible Iron Man, Captain America, the Sentinel of Liberty, and War Machine, Weapon of S.H.I.E.L.D. Players can mix and match from both worlds in order to create their own ideal three man/woman/robot/monster team-up.

Marvel VS Capcom 2 is designed to be a gateway for new players to experience the fun of fighting games while providing a deep system for hardcore fighting fans to dig into. Action is based around colorful, exaggerated attacks that include gigantic projectile attacks (such as Ryu's fireball or Dr. Doom's Plasma Beam) and high-flying aerial moves (like Spider-Man's Maximum Spider or Cammy's Killer Bee Attack). The controls are somewhat simplified from the classic six-button system at the heart of Capcom games like Street Fighter® IV, utilizing a four-button control scheme for the action, with two assist buttons that pull in your team members for additional support.

Due to the amazing combination of Marvel and Capcom characters and the game's celebrated fighting system and graphics, MvC2 has been a hotly sought-after title on the game collector's circuit. Previously owned copies for older game consoles have been demanding more than $100 in auctions and at specialty video game outlets. Now players who have been desperately searching out used copies of the game will be able to go hands-on and play online with the same great online experience from Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix. Additionally, Capcom has added an optional advanced visual filter that improves the overall appearance of the game and added online modes, including Ranked Matches and the popular Player Quarter Match, that allows up to four people to watch and chat while two others are battling it out.

A Marvel vs. Capcom 2 demo will be released on the PlayStation Network Thursday, April 30 and include six characters (Ryu, Chun Li, Strider, Spider-Man, Iron Man, and Wolverine), six backgrounds, and options to play local or online multiplayer matches.

Marvel vs. Capcom 2 achievements:
  • Mega Buster: Win 50 Ranked Matches online (10).
  • #1 in the Hood: Win 100 Ranked Matches online 20
  • I Am Doom: Defeat multiplayer opponent in under 15 second (20).
  • Hyakuretsu Kyaku: Perform a 100 hit combo in multiplayer (10).
  • Berserker Barrage: Perform a 200 hit combo in multiplayer (20).
  • Shun Goku Satsu: Perform a 3 part hyper comboin multiplayer (10).
  • The Best There Is (At What I Do): Perform 50 One Character Victories within 20 unique teams in ranked match (50).
  • Get Out Of Here!!!: Perform 10 snapbacks within 20 unique teams in ranked match (10).
  • Avengers Assemble!: Beat the game with Avengers theme team in Arcade Mode (20).
  • Vampire Saviors: Beat the game with Darkstalkers theme team in Arcade Mode (10).
  • Uncanny Heroes: Beat the game with X-Men theme team in Arcade Mode (10).
  • World Warriors: Beat the game with Street Fighter theme team in Arcade Mode (10).

Marvel VS Capcom 2, rated T for Teen, will be available on Xbox Live Arcade for 1200 Microsoft Points and the PlayStation Network for $14.99 on June 29, 2009.

hmmm, the vs games has always been one of my favorite all time series.
still debating though... i'd have to pick up 2 sticks along with this

and if any of my friends used an infinite combo on me, i'd just give them a good punch -- online play would be a different story, though

You know I still kept the my DC and my copy of this game but never even though about bringing it out just because of the hassle of trying to find a way to integrate an S-video device to my HD set. Now if I'm understanding this correctly, the game will not be in HD or native 16:9? That's kind of a bummer if that is true, but not a deal breaker. Now if only they could get SFIII 3rd strike on live and have a way for the Dreamcast arcade stick to work with the 360.....

The game's backgrounds will be in native HD and the characters will remain in their 320x240 glory, but it looks like they have some good smoothing options. There will be a 16x9 mode, but the characters will remain stuck in a 4x3 playing field and hit an invisible barrier.
FWIW I tried the demo and found the character sprites to look horrendous with any of the smoothing options (or none, I suppose). Putting the sprites next to the clean HD backgrounds also does the game no favors.

If you're a big fan of the game its probably going to be worth putting up with because of the online mode but if I wouldn't play this on my HDTV. Some games are just not meant for that.

I felt quite the opposite. I tried out the demo and checked out all of the graphics options, and definitely found "crisp" to look the best out of all three.

Granted, it's no SFIV, but it also isn't going to cost $60.
I would agree that "crisp" probably looked better than the other 2. However, I still think "crisp" looked bad.

It's true, graphically it is no SF4 or even HDR. Again that just goes back to the problems of displaying older games in HD. Especially one that had some frankeinstein combination of crisp 3D backgrounds designed for Naomi/DC tech and both new and old old sprites.

It's great that it's going to be released to LIVE Arcade.

But I'm disappointed that it won't be an HD Remix version.

Now if they could only get Capcom vs. SNK 2 and Street Fighter III: Third Strike onto the LIVE Arcade 2D fighting fans would be in heaven.
