Official Samsung UNxxB8000 Series Owners Thread - Page 5

Longtime lurker, first time poster.

I purchased my 55" Samsung 8000 series TV about a month ago and also bought the ultra slim wall mount(WMN100B) to mount it above the fireplace.

I temporarily hung the TV with the wires running across the walls, just to see what the TV would look like. I have noticed that occasionally, the entire screen will turn white, but after I move the TV a little bit on the wall, the picture will come back.

I am using HDMI cables to connect my TV to my Directv HD box and also to connect my TV to my media PC. This happens consistently if I am using either the PC input or the Satellite input.

Could the ultra slim wall mount be causing the HDMI cables not to get a good connection?

I want to hide the wires behind the walls, but I would want to get a new mount if this particular mount doesn't work well with the TV.

Any help/ideas are much appreciated

This is not the first time i heard about the TV turning white after attaching the wall mount kit to the Samsung LED TV Line. Maybe loosen the bolts a bit, if not call Samsung

I thought I read in another area that some people experienced the same issue when wall mounting using samsungs mount. I think they said the screws were tightened to much causing presure on the panel.

I'll give that a try when I get home tonight. Thanks for your help. This forum is amazing!

Please let us know how that works for you. My Ultra slim mount is causing the same thing, but I have white ambient spots right where the bolts of the mount are, as well, lower left area of screen. Will loosening the bolts cause the mount to be weaker? PLEASE let us know or I am going to be returning my 8000. Samsung says that the mount is already an issue and they will send an authorized repair person to look at it but I don't think they should be repaired, but replaced. I did not get mine from a large Best Buy place but rather from a small AV store. I could probably exchange it though.

Are you sure what you are seeing isn't the flashlighting from the LED side lights? You could call samsung and ask maybe they will send someone out to look at it. You could have a defective one or just don't have it calibrated properly.
I probably do not have it calibrated just right yet as I have only had it hanging on the wall for 3 days now. I have tried some "darkening" techniques, but certainly not calibrated 100% I will admit . I still have yet to find calibration suggestions. I could accept some side LED lighting, but what I am seeing has specific definition and shape away from the sides approximately 3-4 inches away from the sides. The fact that the Samsung tech support people actually have this issue in their system already is probably what has alarmed me. I am still trying to determine if there is any unnecessary pressure being place from behind the monitor from cords, etc. It seems strange to have to loosen screws and bolts, but any help from any of you would be greatly appreciated. My eyes just seem to be drawn to the "clouds" of white when I am viewing a dark scene in a dark room. It just doesn't seem right the monitor should be this way. Samsung can't come out until July 3rd, and I am still checking on replacement. I really like the look of the slim mount and I don't want the same problem to occur if I do get a replacement. Thanks in advance

Picked up my 55" 8000 series on Saturday. It's outstanding. I'm in love. I got a pretty good deal. $3329 w/ 3 year Warranty at Frys

Had to pull the trigger. Blu-Ray is amazing on the ps3, and games on both the ps3 and 360 make any other tv look like crap.

I went from the 46" Samsung, which was an awesome tv, but nothing touches this. It's seriously like going from SD -> HD all over again.

Ok so i have had my 55" 8000 for about 2 weeks now. This tv is an interesting beast. The picture quality is great, but the panel quality is crap. Sounds conflicting i know but let me explain. The colors are amazing and the clarity is top notch, but the clouding and dark corners really ruin this tv. I have tried the calibration settings from the other thread, and i even went through my old dve disk on it just to confirm some things, and still the issues remained. Highly disappointing. For the money, in my opinion, there are better overall quality tv's out there. The simple fact that the panel issues are present in a lot of the reviews and here in the owners thread really discourages me. I am packing it back up and returning it tomorrow. My issue now is what do i get? It seems that the 8000 is getting compared to the 750 pq wise, but for where the tv goes i would like a larger panel, 55-58 is preferred. Any suggestions?

Thanks for all the (useful) feedback, i thought for a day or so that i was crazy and seeing things on this tv. Hopefully Samsung is putting some effort into getting this panel squared away....

Some people just got bad sets. Call samsung they may send someone out to check it out and maybe even replace the panel.

Taking my set off the wall and removing the slim mount resolved much of my problem with ambient lights in the panel. The Samsung slim mount has magnets in them and that can't help. Samsung needs to recall the slim mount if you ask me. Have the TV on the it's included stand for now until I replace the mount with something different. Still going to arrange for Samsung service guy to check my panel though.

I have the ps3 and 360 hooked up via my 55" 8000. I get some choppyness with the 360 (Both consoles are on HDMI), on some movies/games. Is this normal? Has anyone seen this? More like tearing I'd say. Blu-ray via the ps3 doesn't do this like the HDDVD does via the 360.

Have you set the tv to game mode and disabled all the AMP?

According to a poster in Europe, the "C" series slim mount (for large sets) was taken off the market there for unknown reasons. I wonder if Samsung will shed light on that issue? Pun intended.

Check out the Thinstall mounts by Chief Manufacturing. They are cheaper on eBay than Samsung slim mount and appear to offer the same dimensionally.

I have not set the tv to game mode. What does this exactly do?

noob question: What does AMP stand for?

Game mode should eliminate any lag between the game system and what you see on TV. The TV does a lot of processing to the video source to make it look its best, for TV and moives. but this adds a lot of lag for games

AMP is the auto motion plus. basicly turn off the processing in the 240hz menu.

Man, this doesn't seem to be a very popular set judging by this thread's size and the calibration thread. Mine should be here next week.

Thank you!!!

When your PS3 is in standby (red light) hold down the power button on the PS3 for 2 beeps. That will reset the video options.

Thank you very much, Vermifuge! I got it going now.

Samsung tech came to the house and looked at the problem I was having.....usually more visible when the room is much darker than we could achieve since he came over a 1PM. He felt replacing the panel would create the same problem. I did mention that since removing the slim mount, my problems were not as evident, but, to me, still visible. He actually replaced the power supply board right then and there for me. Actually it was quite a simple process. I am seeing a difference, but all should know that LED's do have some backlighting inherent to the technology. BUT, I have made improvements with the calibration. Still a great set. Samsung service was outstanding!!

If anybody has their unit calibrated please post them here -

for what it is worth i have done some fine tuning with my calibration settings. By dropping the backlight with my previous settings i have eliminated the flashlighting on my TV.

I know entering service menu voids warranty, but since I don't mind, how do I get into this menu?

I'm going to buy the UN55B8000 next week from Best Buy. Right now they have it on sale for $3,399 they said I could get fee delivery or $100 off Geek squad to calibrate my TV. So total cost for calibration will be $200. The salesman I spoke to stated that they recommend calibration after you have 100 hours of viewing. They also stated that they use a high quality meter to do the calibration and it meets the industry standard. I think I'm going to let them calibrate my TV especially after reading this article. http://www.curtpalme.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10457
As you can see a high end calibration meter that's industry certified costs over $1000
I will update when I get my TV and what changes I make and then will follow up after I have the TV professionally calibrated. Wish me Luck
P.S If anyone knows of a Better TV I can buy that's the same price or even less please comment me. I have been looking for the last 3 months and this TV seems to be the best out there under 4 grand. And yes it has to be at least 50 inches. Thanks

Anyone have any calibration settings I could check out for the 8000?
Also, does anyone have any tearing when enabling the 240hz (Any setting, I keep it on standard)
I have a dilemma and wondered if anyone on this forum could offer some advice.
I recently bought a Samsung 55B8000 LED and whilst I think the picture is great, it suffers from dark spots/patches in each corner. Samsung technician came over and certified the panel faulty so my retailer replaced it with the same model but from a different batch. Same problem unfortunatel!! I tried all sorts of calibration settings but couldn't get rid myself of these damn dark patches - unfortunately I'm one of those people that now I know its there, can't stop looking for it:-)

Just spoke to Samsung again and they offered to order me a new panel but I'm afraid it may be just the same - a "feature" of this model. Reason for posting is that my fallback panel is the 58 inch Samsung plasma - the B850. This seems to be well thought of and I was impressed when I saw it in the store. What do you think I should do - try another 55B8000 LED or go plasma. I watch mainly BD material, movies and sport.
Many thanks for any advice you can offer
Get the Plasma. Any EDGE lit LCD is going to suffer from the problems that people are having. You could always wait a bit and pick up the B8500 which is a actual LED backlit TV from Samsung, that will not have the same problems.
