sony KDL-46W4100 or samsung LN46B550

I am wondering which of the 2 has the better picture quality. I dont care about the 120hz or that the sony is a little more. I am just wondering which has the better blacks/colors/contrast/sharpness etc. And also if there was ever a fix out there for the sonys auto dimming issue. If it were up to you, what would you get? This is driving me mad and I need a second opinion! Thanks! Please dont suggest a different TV... and don't ask why these are my 2 choices.

the W4100 hands down no contest has better picture quality as well as more features like 120hz the equivalent samsung model would be a A/B650

the A550's pale in comparison to a W4100 or a A/B650 samsung PQ wise

I was reading this tread and had to chime in. I have owned both of these sets... I initially bought the Sony W4100 and returned it for the Sammy B550. Why? Believe it or not the W4100 would literally give me headaches. I am not sure what about it caused the problem, but I would get a migraine within 5 mins of watching it. My suspicion is 120hz and my brain don't play nice together.

Now on the question of picture quality... the black levels on the B550 look deeper to my eyes. Overall picture quality on the Sony may have been slightly "better" out of the box, but after they were/are both tweaked it is a toss up in my opinion.

I know this has nothing to do with picture quality... but I personally like the frame, and appearance of the Sammy over the Sony. It is also considerably thinner and has a swivel stand which I use a lot more than I thought I would. The Sammy's internal speakers (B model, not A) are a marked improvement over the Sony's.

The Sony also had noticable flashlights in all 4 corners... which didn't bother me terribly, however the Sammy does not have any.

awesome thanks for the replies! i went with the B550. it should arrive next week. i think it was my best bet because i was just planning on turning off the motion flow or whatever sony calls it on the w4100 because i think it makes the picture look fake. but from what ive seen even with it turned off, just having the tv run at 120hz makes everything look a little fake and 3d. i would rather watch my movies or play my games as the developer intended it to be seen.
