Yes, she is complicated and very realistic. One reason addicts often relapse around anniversaries is many of them have a fear of success; they are so used to living in the darkness that coming into the light is a scary thing. Seeing how much her partner is caring and supportive can actually create a lot of tension and mixed emotions- which of course leads to thoughts of old, familiar ways to handle stress.

This is exactly who Jackie is and will always be apparently (now along with Grace as well, sadly), and next season will be no different than the past seasons. Thankfully (this is terrific TV)!
I know many people in recovery, some w/ many years clean. It is very unusual for any addict to get clean w/o at least one relapse- often several. To assume Jackie will always remain active in her addiction is a big leap. However, I've heard figures that only 1 in 7 who go into recovery will make it, so the odds are against her. But given her other attributes, she has a better chance than most, as she's always been a high-functioning addict and seems to possess many strengths that a lot of addicts don't. But she obviously has not hit her bottom yet.
This show is so good because it presents her as a real person, suffering from the horrible disease of addiction. She has so many facets; along w/ her flaws, she shows many positive attributes. The fact that she apologized to Zoe, seems to be understanding that she is a true friend and seems willing to let her get so close are good signs. What a great way to end the season- so many ways to go next year. But if they stay realistic, which we have every reason to believe they will, Jackie will be heading straight down; it's just a matter of if and when she will come back up. And if she does come back up, will she be able to stay there.
