Marantz SR5003 & SR6001 Capability Question

Does the SR5003 pass audio through to the TV? Meaning if I have my STB connected via HDMI, as well as other no-HDMI sources, does the audio get passed over HDMI? From the one HDMI cable going to the TV?

What about the SR6001?

Thanks.

Yes, no, still no, yes.

Both 6001 and the 5003 will pass through both sound and video over HDMI. You have to enable internal mute on the TV when watching HDMI sources. Neither will mix sound into HDMI if it came from non-HDMI source.

Thats retarded! So how am I suppose to use al my components on my TV if I can't have a receiver that passes sound. Defeats the purpose of having one flipping cable. WTF!!!!!

Any receivers that will do this?

Thanks for the help.

It is generally assumed that if you have a receiver, you also have external speakers. So there is no valid use case to pass sound through HDMI for non-HDMI sources. Video is the only thing sent to the TV.

Why do you need sound to your TV if you have a receiver? Is that the purpose of a receiver, so you can have better sound than the TV speakers?

If all you want is a HDMI switcher go to monoprice and pick out the one you need. Up to 8 in for $87.00. You don't need an AVR to use TV speakers. I'll bet that bluray sounds killer though.
