Recording auto-stops when show ends

Comcast Motorola DCH3416

How can I press record to start a recording and just stop it when I want to? The DVR automatically stops recording when the show ends, but I may want the recording to continue until I press stop (I don't want to go into settings and add X minutes to the end or pre-schedule a recording).
