Digital optical to 5.1

I have a TV/PS3 that I want to send it to my 5.1 Logitech X-540 speakers So i can have surround sound.

My connections are as follows:-
TV = Audio optical OUT
SPEAKERS = Green (front) Black (rear) Orange (sub/centre) 3.5mm Jack IN.
It does come with a cable that has Green, Black and Orange 3.5mm Jacks Out on both ends, plus an adaptor for Green 3.5mm Jack in to Stereo Female RCA's.

Now HOW can i connect them both please???

The optical out is digital. The 5.1 input is analog. You need a receiver, processor or DAC to mate these. OTOH, might the speakers also have a digital input?

Wow...to me this X-540 thing is like...alien technology.... Computer-based audio equipment is weird!

Anyway, unfortunately there does not appear to be an inexpensive way to get true 5.1 sound from your TV/PS3 into the X-540. The only way of which I am aware is to use a receiver or pre-processor to input the TOSLINK connection and output analog 5.1. The least expensive such units, off the top of my head, would be HK receivers such as the AVR 247 or AVR 254 (because they have a full set of pre-outs).

Short of that, if your TV has analog stereo outputs, you could use the 3.5mm-to-RCA adapter and a stereo RCA cable to connect the TV to the green 3.5mm cable on the X-540, relying on its matrix decoder to provide surround sound. If your TV has no such output, then most likely your PS3's breakout cable has stereo RCA outputs that you can connect directly to the 3.5mm adapter and green cable.

Oops, I forgot to mention that if your TV does not have an analog stereo RCA output, then you should be able to plug the X-540's green 3.5mm cable into your TV's headphone jack instead.
