I know what you mean. But it is really dependent on Picture Mode. Obviously using any level of DC should mean Contrast gets lowered. I have some settings where Contrast is at 65-70 but DC is engaged at whatever level and the picture still literally jumps off of the screen. Still very dimensional and bright. What Gamma are you using?
I think many folks simply prefer high Contrast because they don't relate to a dimmer picture or are following settings from previous generations of sets and/or posted settings from various calibrators. Meters and calibration software do show where the dividing lines or set points are, so to speak, of positive vs. negative effects, with all of these various controls. Type of input also makes a difference. My HDMI Movie settings are a good bit different than anything Component and Movie.
