This is a little concerning b/c the B650 I saw in BB had pink vertical bands while on the scrolling bars. People might want to check this on their new B650's

Here we go with the negativity.....!

That seems pretty warm and since I live in there's enough heat to go around without another source :P Thank you very much for checking!

I'm not being negative, I just want to know if this is an issue with the B650. The only two B650 I've seen (one in person, and one posted here) have had vertical banding on the scrolling bars screen.

I've got an A650 that I will be swapping for either the B650 or B850. Having more info on this will be vital to my decision for obvious reasons.

I can clearly see the green 2 bars on left and right in the white scroll bar screenshot, last one. Its clearly there, unless on a white scroll bar, there is suppose to be green, lol but like i said, i wonder if that is phosphor lag, or actually still green bands sitting in that location.
I just saw the B650 again today at BB. The pink vertical bands do move along the screen with the black bars. Phosphor lag?

The B550 they had didn't have the pink vertical bands, but it did have subtle vertical bands of static that moved along the screen.

BTW, the B650 was right next to a Pioneer 6020, and the overall PQ and blacks were every bit as good as the Pioneer. If anything, the B650 had a slightly better picture, IMO, with slightly better colors and video processing (less video noise). Both handled the harsh lighting pretty well.

I tested GoW2...NO PL!

Mine tips back slightly too on its stand, I think it is just to help it from ever tipping foward onto somebody.

thats odd, so your screen isn't straight vertically? it actually is pitched back some so the tv is now back an angle? interesting. wonder if all are like that or if your stand is damaged.

How about input lag?

Actually, if there are any gamers in the house with the necessary equipment let's see some lag tests! http://hdtvlag.googlepages.com/ourtest
post #70 of 5062
Anybody else's B650 screen lean back a little like the profile pic above? I'm wondering if thats normal or a defect in the stand.

wow, really? thats inpressive, wonder if this is accurate, are you using hdmi, or pc input vga? no difference in timestaps.

if i find another test to run, i'll let you know, anybody have any other timestamp programs? also what res are you running at?

edit: did some reading, and your laptop lcd might have some lag of its own, if you can try hooking up your laptop to a CRT monitor and testing that. If there is a little lag there, then i assume that is what the lag to the tv actually is, which i would still think is pretty good.

again i could be wrong, and the tv is infact lagless, which would be great.

EDIT: I found this that other people on the forum have used, http://www.springcreeksoftware.com/vswpro.html
called VSWPRO, it says it is 25bucks, but you can use it free, so just download and install, once installed right click on program and go to configure, and change Stopwatch FORMART to H:MM:SS.tht, its in the drop down box, that will give you 3 digits after the last . so it has more to display, try it again with your same setup just with this other program, maybe it'll show a difference? dunno.

Sorry to get you excited. I didn't think about it when I ran this test but, the resolution over HDMI from the laptop is 1680 x 1050. Unfortunately that is the limit for this laptop and I have no CRTs around.

You will never guess what happened to me today. I went to Best Buy to purchase the 58B550 (using my replacement authorization a little over $2300 to spend). Well they were out of them and they could not find any at the other locations as well as their warehouse. I've been working with the same best buy salesman for the last month, so he knew how frustrated I was. I'd made a final choice 2 different times on a TV that they didn't have....

So at this point he was going to do his best to help me out. This guy goes on his computer for about 7-10 minutes and is just going from screen to screen to screen pushing buttons and writing down numbers (I didn't know what he was doing)....

Anyway, he comes back and says. I found you a B650 and I am going to price match is down to the price of the B550.... (THAT'S A $600 PRICE DIFFERENCE)

I'd not even considered that TV cause it was WAY OUT of my price range (with what they'd allowed for my replacement), so I have not done any research on it at all..., but from the looks of what we saw, they are the exact same except the 650 has the networking features and it's a red touch of color instead of grey...(I really wanted the grey, but HEY, IM NOT COMPLAINING AT ALL.)

I am posting this just to show that if you are patient and don't make a rushed decision, GOOD THINGS WILL COME.

I am also posting this to let everyone know.... NOT ALL BEST BUY EMPLOYES ARE HOW PEOPLE MAKE THEM OUT TO BE!!!!

I really like the guys at my best buy!!!! And I just want the whole world to know that!!!!!

Oh yeah, I get my Samsung PN58B650 on Friday.
THAT'S A FREAKING $3000 TV!!!!!

I'M SO HAPPY!!!!!

CAN YOU TELL?

Dude, cool story and congrats. I love mine. but you will find with a little research that u can get a 58B650 for just under $2400 to your door. I did! Good luck, this is a great set contrary to some of the posts. At least mine is so far.

I think the stand is made to tilt the tv back slightly, to help avoid the tv from tipping forward if a child pulls on it. Ive seen where there is a problem with the new flat panels falling on children. Thats why the tv even comes with a tether rope they want you to screw to the back of the tv and the other end into the wall or back of furniture, which I didn't(no kids in my house). But you don't even notice the tv is at a slight angle when you are watching it. Also, how do you get the scrolling white bars to run. I tried to find it in the menu last night, but didn't see it anywhere. Thanks for any help.

I'm with you man...to my door for just a little over 2300 hundred and this TV is gorgeous. Pictures to hopefully follow.

My 58B650 arrived today, but the buzzing sound is pretty annoying. It may be going back to Amazon tomorrow.

After watching the tv for a few hours, I'm not really hearing it much anymore. I think I'm getting used to it. I'm on the fence about returning it.

I think if I would have never found this forum, I prolly would have noticed the buzz. Other than the buzzing, loving the tv so far.

any suggestions on a wall mount or is this bad boy going to be too big?

I have mine on the wall, with a standard omni tilting mount. remember these are about 40-45LBS less than last years models...Find the studs....

jrouss,

Thanks for the effort but you forgot one important step - you need to split the output between your TV and a CRT display (over S-video). The difference between the CRT and plasma is the real lag.

The correct procedure is detailed here: http://hdtvlag.googlepages.com/ourtest

Although I think there are more up-to-date/accurate timeclock programs out there now. If you (or anyone else) has the proper equipment, give it a go!

After much thought, I have decided to return the tv. I'm really sad since I really liked this tv.

I would have never noticed it if someone hadn't mentioned it as it's very slight. I have a 58" and I'd say the bottom is 1/2 " closer to the front than the top is.

I feel bad for you but I certainly don't blame you. There's no excuse to have sets pass through quality control like that. I have been very fortunate and have absolutely no buzz at all.
