Will the Western Digital - WD TV HD Media Player connect to myyahoo? Or UTube without being connected to an HTPC? Will it play music files or show picture files?

It will only connect to USB storage devices - hard drives or memory sticks. It has 2 USB ports on it for this.

It will play video and music and display pictures.

If you want a simple cheap player that will play most any video, audio or picture file from a USB hard drive then it's a good device. I just got one for my parents.
