Samsung HL-S5087W & new cable box, no HD

So I finally traded in my ancient Pioneer 3250 for a SciAtl 4250. I'm using component cables. When I change my TV to use the input connected to the cable box via component, it says "Not Supported Mode". I looked around the cable box menu and the TV menu looking for relevant options, but nothing jumped out at me.

What resolution have you set your new cable box to output? And is it configured to output for a 16:9 aspect ratio dispay?

I do not have it "configured" to output any given resolution... I could not find that setting ( TWC SD uses the Mysro firmware ). And, yes, it is configured to output 16:9

If you have told your STB that you have a 16:9 apect ratio display then you should also have options to tell it what resolutions to output.
For example with my Motorola STB I tell it I have a 16:9 aspect ratio display and I tell it to send any 16:9 program content received in 720p(since I have an older 720p HDTV) and to output any 4:3 program content in 480i over it's HDMI output interface.
AFAIK SA boxes are far more flexible since they have a "Pass through" resolution option.

I agree, I should.

I flipped through each menu item and did not see anything like that. Maybe TWC locked it out? Maybe it's in a "hidden" menu? I don't know.

I need a longer cable for it anyway, so I'll pick up an HDMI instead of another component cable. Maybe that's what it wants.

I don't think using HDMI interface instead of component will make any differece at all so just make sure you order the longer HDMI cable you need from of the cable companies sponsering this forum so you don't have to pay more the 15-20$ for it.
I suggest that you contact neighrbors in San Diego or post on the San Diego site forum your problem.

You were wrong about that.

An HDMI would have solved the problem, because it would have been impossible for me to swap the green and the blue with HDMI

I was referring to the PQ of the digital vs analog signal and was of course assuming that you could at lest make the connections correctly.

Try downloading the "Explorer HDTV Setup Wizard User's Guide". It tells you how to set the output resolutions.
