FLAC playback troubles with 7MC x64

I've got Win7 RC1 x64 up and running, and last night I installed the Shark007 codec packs (both x86 and x64 packs) before ever opening Media Center. After installation nad restart, I checked to make sure my flac files played properly in Media Player, which they did. After I started Media Center and added all the files to my library, I tried playing a few flac-based playlists and got an error message that "the files could not be found in the proper location." When I tried to play individual files it told me it was unable to open them.

Any ideas why this might be going on? Any particular settings I should look to set/change in the Shark007 settings? Thanks in advance for the help.

K - Lite 64 bit codec pack comes with I believe a 64 bit version of GraphStudio - which lists only the 64 bit codecs installed. What you will notice is that even though you installed a 64 bit codec pack FLAC is not included.

I have yet to find a 64 bit FLAC codec and am having the same issues as you. Unfortunately, which I did anticipate, 64 bit right now for a HTPC is not a good choice - My HTPC is going to be 32 bit but my main system which I re-encode my movies will be 64 bit...

If I were you I would stay away from 64 bit as your HTPC and only use 64 bit as a main computing system.

BUT if you find a 64 bit Flac codec please let us know.. then this could change my impression.

It's about time for Media Foundation flac decoder and tag support for WMP and WMC. I wish someone or some company would tackle the issue even if the end product cost a little money.

I did take a quick look at what would be involved in writing one but it's a little over my head, my C++ is way too rusty.

If there is no 64-but flac codec included in the shark pack, why am I able to play them without a problem in WMP? Is it using the 32-bit version of that but not WMC? I know Windows 7 comes with both 32- and 64-bit versions of both programs, but how do I know which one it is using by default? Like I said, I'm able to play flac with no issues in Media Player, but as soon as I open up Media Center and try to do it, I get errors.

Yes, it´s using WMP x32. Anyway, you can use ffdshow64 for flac.

But also, you need to change the preferred MC decoders in Win 7 with this utility.

I'm sticking with win7 x64 for my htpc..... I know it'll be harder and a pain in the backside sometimes, but 32bit computing is in it's final years and there's more efficiency running x64. Have to bite the bullet sooner or later.

After some additional messing around, I've discovered that media center will play flac files and playlists just fine IF media player is open in the background. However, as soon as media player is closed, media center gives error messages stating that the files can not be found. Additionally, every time I choose a different playlist with both open, media player will pop up a window (which I don't see until I minimize/close media center) asking if I want to save the changes made to the most current playlist.

I can't for the life of me figure out why these two programs are interacting like this and why I can play FLAC in media center with media player open, but not without. Is anyone else experiencing or able to duplicate this issue? If anyone can provide insight I'd appreciate it!

You fail at logic.

This is do to the "Media Foundation Direct Show Wrapper". (mfds.dll)

Our old filters and codecs are not compaitble/ or maybe MS has just crippled it for the time being.

.........If you disable this "mfds.dll" all codecs will work like the old days......
ive done this to get all of MPC-HC x64 filters & FFdshow x64 audio to work as main decoders. This is Only a TEMP fix. but it works.
Edit: some other MScodecs may/will need to be disabled also .

I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS for Cable Card setup though. ADVANCED TWEAKERS ONLY
if you do not know what i mean by "other MScodecs" then dont do it.

I've got no problem tweaking/disabling codecs and filters, as this is a non-critical partition, so I can always wipe it and start over if I cripple something. With that in mind, you would be willing to provide a bit more guidance on what you're referring to? i.e., which other codecs/filters may/will need to be disabled and the best way to do this? Thanks again for the input.

FFdshow64 plays FLAC fine for me in 7MC64 and WMP64 through my XONAR HDAV1.3.

Setup is kind of weird with this card, and it's the same as Vista64, for I have to set Windows sound to speakers instead of digital to make it work. Of course I have to enable flac in ffdshow64.

It works for me as I do get 5.1 LPCM sound on my receiver.

I am able to play FLAC through Media Center on Win7 x86 RC using win7codecs. Album art displays too. The only issue that I am having is that there is a brief moment of silence between tracks. All of my FLACs are of live concerts so I would love to be able to achieve gapless FLAC playback through MC on Win7. Anyone have any luck doing this or ideas on what to try? Would switching to another codec help?
