Pioneer Elite question?

I just got my Pro-111FD a few weeks ago. One thing I've noticed is that when the TV is on, but there is no video signal (e.g. my PS3 is off, or during a menu change), the screen is not uniformly black, but rather certain areas are splotchy ... like a dark cloudy night. Once I power on my PS3 and watch a movie in 2.40:1 aspect ratio, the black bars are uniformly black.

I was only able to notice this when I powered on my TV in the dark, but hadn't turn on the PS3.

I'm just wondering if this is normal, and will it eventually go away? It doesn't affect my viewing, but I want to make sure that I don't have a defective TV.

Search this forum area for "blotch" and you will find that this has been discussed thoroughly. It is fairly common and nothing to worry about. It goes away over time as your phosphors age a bit.

from what i understand this is normal and the splotches will go away as the darker areas should expand filling the whole screen at about 800hrs. seeing as how yours is a 50" it should take even less time.

I took a better look last night. It looks like the blotchiness is noticeable during scenes with lots of black (e.g. End Credits).

Original, I thought it was present only when there was no video input. Should I be concerned, now that I've seen it during movie viewing?
