Choose a provider in Seattle - Comcast/FIOS/Dish/DirecTV

Thread Starter
We are doing new construction with a 24 seat home theater using a JVC DLA-RS10U projector onto a 110 inch screen. I don't know enough, but I've putttered around here enough to know that there are likely 10000 opinions - so without getting into too many fine points - am I making a serious bad call with this projector?

I also need to select a signal provider. In Seattle (Kirkland), we can choose between Comcast, FIOS, Dish, and DirecTV. I saw several posts about Comcast degrading signal quality from about a year ago - but I haven't seen any more recent updates. My builder says "Go with Comcast" (mostly because that is what he has done before, and they give him free signal amplifiers). My heart wants to go with FIOS, but my head is clueless. My extended family wants me to go with Dish (I think because of their referal kickback-But they don't carry one of the locals).

All I want is to have no one be able to criticize my signal quality on the big screen (or on the other 3 Pioneer Kuro screens), and to watch Blu-Ray movies and to record video content onto DVRs and playback the content including Seattle Mariners. (There will be a Windows Media Center sysem as well).

Which provider will give me the best signal quality - and who will degrade the signal?
Who will give me the best programming/most channels for "consumer use"?
Which are the best DVRs from my providers?
Does the Verizon/FIOS multi-room whole house DVR work well? Do the other providers do multi-room DVRs of their own?

Any pointers for a clueless guy would be appreciated!

Suspect FIOS, from the comments here, is the best video source. Maybe JVC has fixed its color with the model number change, but you might want to check whether they've fixed this color problem , often debated in the higher-end FP forum here, plus Tom Huffman's (image source) color adjustment thread in the calibration forum. AIUI, such color-gamut errors can be corrected with the costly Radiance video processor but not within the display hardware. -- John

I live in North Seattle.

Last year I switched from Comcast to Directv. I am pleased with the improvement. Better picture, better DVR, better interface.

There is less HD on Demand, but I almost never use that service.

I would have preferred FIOS, but they hadn't come to my neighborhood yet (and still aren't here.)

I'd second that. Check out HD TIVOs if you're concerned about storage space for an HT.
