Havent seen it yet but perhaps better would be a PREquel to show all the CIA stuff he was involved with and how he became the man that he is now in "Taken."
Might be interesting

Great review,Ralph.Watched this BD 2 days ago with the unrated version,I thought it was the same as 2 months ago ,my local pal dvd(88 min). This is a must for BD player's owners.
I rented this and after all the hype surrounding it I was expecting a lot more than I got. A pretty good movie yes but not nearly as good as people are making it out to be.

I guess there are so many bad movies that even a decent movies usually is a stand out.
I just watched this for the first time this weekend and I seemed to notice a sound "issue." There are several cuts from a reasonably loud action sequence to a quiet vocal scene. After the cut to the vocal scene the dialogue seemed too quiet and then slowly ramped back to a "normal" volume. Of course, as I’m typing this I’m wondering if I had the Dynamic EQ enabled on my receiver..? For what is it worth I was bit streaming from my HTPC to a Denon receiver.
I did watch a couple of movies back to back and this is the only one I noticed the “issue” on, so I thought I’d ask if anyone else noticed the same.

I agree with you whole-heartedly. I heard about this film before it was released. After it was released people were still raving about it, so I just had to check it out. I left the theater going "Meh." It was entertaining, but I was expecting to be blown away. Just didn't happen for me. Maybe I should have gone in with no expectations and I would have felt like most of the ppl here!
I would watch it again, but it would be one of those "it's saturday and I just want to do NOTHING days."
I saw Taken in the theater shortly after it was released and liked it. When I saw the BD yesterday I liked it even better. Taken is not deathless art so watching it with extremely high expectations will probably doom you to disappointment. Nevertheless, taken for what it is, a brilliantly made, well acted, shoot 'em up thriller, that tells the whole tale in 93 minutes it's a LOT of fun. The PQ was excellent, and the DTS-HD MA audio very nearly demonstration quality. Over the months after I finally entered the Blu-ray age with a PS3 last July, I replaced my entire sound system with all new components. The Taken soundtrack gave it a great workout, with good surround and great LFE.
I rather liked Maggie Grace as our lethal hero's imperiled daughter. She was 25, not 17, when the film was made but I thought her performance was appropriate for the role. Certainly she demonstrated great excitement but what 17 year old wouldn't be excited who
got a horse for her birthday, got permission to go around Europe accompanied only by a 19 year old girl friend, and is kidnapped.
Frankly, I don't really believe a spoiler warning was necessary there but for all you spoilerphobics, you know who are, I did it anyway.
Finally, I cannot imagine a sequel to this slender story, though, although nothing is impossible in Hollywood. Who is going to get in trouble next time, the horse?
Loved this movie to death. One of the better action movies I've seen in a long while.
Something that is certainly of note (to me anyway) is the way the action plays out. There is no cheesy karate-in-the-hallway fighting. All the fighting is brutal and quick which made it much more realistic. When someone gets in his way he either shoots them immidiately or incapacitates them immidiately - awesome. No sparring at all. A very welcome change.
My only (slight) complaint is that most of the bad guys took shooting lessons at a Stormtrooper training facility...
I loved this film, the Aus release is just as good in the audio and picture quality department
Have to agree mate. Just watched this last night and the bass was just incedible. The audio quality reminded me of 300 very powerful. One of my top 5 BD's for audio. Plus I loved the movie.
Ralph,
Thought your review was spot on. I thought Taken was thoroughly enjoyable and I would highly recommend it. I thought the PQ and AQ were stunning. After only watching a handful of movies with a new avr I finally see what all the fuss is about high res audio
My only issue and it is a slight one is that I would have liked to seen the story wrapped up a little better.

Greetings,
Glad that you enjoyed Taken and thanks for sharing your impressions...
Watched this last night and thought that it was aces in every way. While very, very violent, the violence was never gratuitous. It made absolute sense in the context that it was in. The dialogue was very sharply written and Liam Neeson's performance was letter perfect with not a wasted expression or movement.
While I also liked the movie (having worked in the Special Operations arena), I found that Neeson's character made some illogical moves -- i.e. "starting from square one to develop a lead" after his initial lead gets "lost in traffic" (how's that for avoiding a plot spoiler). Bottom line there was another guy at the airport for Neeson to take a crack at.
And that's only one logic bomb; there are others. Still, for action it compares very favorably with the Bourne movies ....
