Came across this today.....a new 3rd party Wii gadget is coming to E3. Why is this forum thread worthy? 'Cuz it will allow you to use your old NES, SNES & N64 controllers with their respective Virtual Console clones.

A company called Komodo is going to show off it's new Virtual Retro Adaptor @ E3. Plugs into your Wii's GC control ports & allows the use of the aformentioned previous gen controllers with your VC games.

While this really has no major effect on NES or SNES (sideways Wiimote & Classic Controller both do the proper job for those titles), anyone heavy into N64 VC games can now use the controller those games were built for. The adaptors are said to carry a retail price of $19.99 each.

Full article @ the above link - no images until E3.

Those are cool as well.

OTOH - each one of those is a separate adaptor. Having both will run you close to $40 & they don't list one for N64.

The one announced for E3 is $20 & also works w/ N64 - which really is the big selling point, I think. NES games are played w/ a Wiimote turned sideways. That is essentially the same button layout as the NES pad, but wireless. Clasic Controller is really a SNES pad w/ added analog sticks and is also wireless via Wiimote connection.

Classic Controllers - and GC controllers as well - will work w/ N64 VC titles, but those games were really meant for the button layout of the N64 controller. With the Retro Adaptor, you get N64 compatibility.

Might be interested in this new adaptor as I have 2 N64 controllers already & this adaptor would allow me to play MK64, Mario 64, etc just as I did when I was rockin' the N64 (which I still have & occasionally play with when old school Kart or Perfect Dark/Goldeneye call to me thru the mists of time).

I don't really care to get them. Everyone on here raved about how the classic controll er was so great and a must have and I never EVER use it. Controllers are never a big deal really.

By the way does anyone have a top loading NES and the controllers for NES which are similar to SNES controllers? I bought all fo that a few years back. I don't ever use it though since I can just play NES games on the wii.

Yeah I bought one of those "dogbone" controllers for my front loader back when the top loader first came out. Feels pretty good in the hand. I don't have my NES hooked up at the moment due to space limitations... It would be nice to have it available though. I prefer playing games on the original equipment since I feel more connected to the "good ole days" Still, I find myself double dipping on the Virtual Console for convenience.
