Just wanted to clarify a few things for you.
There is no reason to enter service mode, since this Sony model doesn't have Color Management controls.
You can adjust the grayscale, with excellent results. That is what the white balance controls are for.
My blacks are not crushed, I see all the fine details because I've calibrated it to industry standard.
Pro calibration is not necessary if: :
- you are satisfied with the picture out of the box, -or-
- you are happy with the results you are getting using someone else's settings, -or-
- you have used a meter, laptop, and test patterns, and have calibrated the display yourself, -or-
- you have used a calibration discs with good results, and accurate grayscale doesn't matter to you.
If the above applies, then you're right, save your money. No one here is holding a gun to your head in this thread, we're all here to help each other.
Just so you know, I offered to calibrate CSonntag's Sony for free.
Calibration is my sideline, it's not what I do to support my family, I do it because I enjoy it.
