Has anyone here hooked up their PC/Laptop to the TV via HDMI. If so, how do you make the image fill the screen when you set your PC to output 1920X1080X60Hz to the TV? I thought there was a way in Screen Settings to set it to Full Pixel, but for some reason when it detects a PC signal over HDMI, that option is not there.

Depending on your video card, there may be some overscan settings in the video control panel on your PC/laptop.

So this is the part that is confusing to me because our TV is supposed to be 1080p right? So when the laptop is putting out a resolution of 1920X1080 X 60hz, shouldn't it fit perfectly in the tv? For example, if I hooked up my laptop to a 1080p monitor, it fits perfectly. I guess I don't understand why there's black bars on each side on the TV and why the TV's screen settings do not offer the same overscan options (full pixel, normal 1, etc.) they offer on the TV channels.

So my TV has started clicking on like once or twice an hour now. I have no idea what it is doing because I do not have the TV Guide set up at all. In fact, I don't even have the cable line or antenna going to the TV. Everything is set up through my cable box. I know the manual says this is supposed to happen at 2am every night, but once or twice an hour is ridiculous and I'm concerned about the life of the TV's relay switch with it turning on and off so much. Any ideas?
mine clicks too and i have no cable line running to it..
Try turning off/disabling the program guide and see if that helps.
-Best,
John

I've looked through all the posts and I do not use the TV Guide. I have it set to Broadcaster. I've also reset my TV and not had it scan for channels at all...no need to with my cable box.

I have the KDL52Z5100 and I tried to connect my laptop via hdmi but the problem is that my laptop detects the tv but the sony tv can't find the hdmi connection. It's just a black screen with "No signal"

Did you set your laptop to output to the Sony TV. Sometimes it defaults to still just using the laptop display.
Yeah I tried extending and duplicating the display but no luck.

Try getting the latest video card drivers and installing them. Also, you made sure you set your TV input to the HDMI connection and not PC right?
Already got the latest drivers and yes I set the input to hdmi and tried all hdmi slots. Do you think it might be the cable?

Is the kdl52z5100 compatible with HDMI 1.3b cable?

Yeah it's compatible. It is unlikely that it's the cable, but you could try that cable with your cable box or blu-ray player and see if it works. I suspect it is something with your laptop though. What res and refresh rate has your laptop set the TV display at?
The res is the recommended settings from windows 7, don't know about refresh rate. The laptop (Sony VPCEB24FD) works with vga and I can get full screen size.

edit res: 1920 x 1080 and 60 Hz

That res sounds fine. I guess try a different cable if you haven't done so, and if you have, try a different laptop. My guess is it is something weird with the video card software. VGA is analog, so it isn't surprising that it works.

The latest available upgrade from Sony is buggy and poor quality. Now after the update I can't seem to get rid of red push no matter what setting I try, my viewing angle has also been severely limited. I used to be able to get up and move around a good deal without much change in my viewing angles, now after the so called update, if stand up or move left or right a little bit everything gets blurry and the color and picture distort and downgrade a great deal. I really wish Sony knew what the hell they were doing. I wish I had stayed with 0176, Hulu plus is not worth this.

How can the firmware change the viewing angle? That's a physical property of the panel.

I wish I knew, but thats exactly what happened, maybe the process fried something while it was updating I don't know. But I'm not happy about it, more troublesome is the loss of color accuracy.

Edit I have the Spears and Munsil Blu Ray and now I can not meet the benchmarks I had it set for before, the accuracy is gone. I can not get the contrast or color set to the standard anymore, I got tired of trying after many hours the last few days. It's ok but not what it was, I had it perfect before this and now can't get it, its twitchy and the red push is there no matter how much I tweak settings. Sony puts out buggy code that is supposed to only do certain things but does many others that were not intended and they never admit it. I have seen it multi times on PS3. They really don't care very much anymore, this is the same firmware people were having trouble with for the XBR 9 series.

Hey guys,

Probably a simple question, but i can't figure it out. While watching a bluray source, how can i display the current video settings that the TV is using? I want to ensure that its running at 24fps. I can't find a simple way to display info on the source material, etc.

Thanks!

Thanks!

Just push the display button on your factory remote.

So anyway, I just got another firmware update for this a few weeks back and am planning on recalibrating with my DVE HD Basics Bluray in my BDP s560 through my 4311ci and wasn't sure if there were settings I need to tweak before doing so in either the BDP or the 4311ci.

I had them all down at one time, but each has had firmware updates since I originally set them up and I wasn't sure what the best settings would be at this point before I calibrate the display.

Hunger Games is on the list for this weekend.

Anyone else getting the 5004 error when trying to connect to the network for video stuff or anything? I can't get firmware or any updates at all over the net through the TV all of a sudden.

Yeah, my wife said the tv reset last night at about 9:30edt and now the channel guide is blank and will not reload.
It gives me an error that the zip code is invalid.
The network stuff still works ( yahoo, youtube, etc ).
Sound cuts out too.
Hope this does not mean a new set is needed.

It looks like my 52Z5100 main processor board went out. Solid green power light and just Bravia flashes on screen after power up. Looking to do a DIY repair. What is best place to order Sony repair parts? Thanks in advance.

Any chance you can get Sony to cover under the extended warranty?
