It's maybe worth keeping in mind that when this episode was written, they had no idea whether the show would be a huge success and have chart-topping albums and be picked up for the back 9 and likely to be renewed for season 2 -- or be a big-ass flop moved to Friday nights before being canceled. So the producers gave us an episode 13 that would be at least somewhat satisfying if it turned out to be the series finale. (Even "24" did this in its first year, resolving several plot lines in episode 13.)
I loved this episode totally. If there was one weak plot point, it was that there were PLENTY of other songs they could've done, if not for the imperative to show the audience (us) something new. Why not (as Quinn mentioned) Somebody to Love, or Lean on Me, or True Colors, or any one of a number of others. I was glad this was at least mentioned
and I did love the new songs they did.
And the last song of the fall was how I feel about Glee!
