Vizio M series (SV470M,SV420M) LCDs

I've seen this @ friends house, its pretty impressive product if you ask me

I could be wrong but is this just a rehash of the 1st generation XVT?

First of all, I should say sorry to you because of my bad Japanese' english, but allow me to comment here, I'll try my best.

I just got this VIZIO SV470M in last week at Walmart w/ PS3. The price is around $1200 for this display.

I tried some of BD movies already, I think the quality of the picture is nice!!
I compared this one's picture quality with SAMSUNG, SONY, Sharp & Philipps while I choose at shop, but I cannot find any worse point even from these "TOP BRAND" Tvs. The color is quite vivid, and The edge of objects are really sharp.

The 120Hz LCD speed's effectiveness is really noticeable while I play the baseball TV game. There is almost no "ghost" even the pitcher throw the 100mph fastball in the game.

Former VIZIO TV had some noticeable weakness on the bass sound then this one also has some same weakness, but improved.

I don't know the reliability yet, but as in the performance, this has worth to spend $1200.

Thanks Bantaku! I am considering getting a VIZIO, but it is quite difficult to find information regarding the various models. There are so many models! Oh, and your English is great! Far better than a lot of people that I know.

Tonight I was at the superwalmart here in my town and they just got the sv470m in and to me it looked really good and thats without the set being adjusted. I never heard of this model and was going to get the 47" xvt but not so sure now. Are these models a step up from the xvt's or just walmart models of vizios?

They had the same source going to multiple tv's of which being a samsung, sharp, rca and sony...the vizio looked the best in my eyes. Of course who knows what kinda hookup they had going to this thing. It looked like it may have been a hd satelite feed Im not sure. Im gonna see if I can find more info on this thing cause it looked great in store. Price was 1098 here...not bad at all for a 47" 120hz lcd

As additional info, I added around $90 to extend the warranty for additional 2 years after expire the maker's warranty because I really don't know the reliability of this products.

According to my source, the VIZIO TV's back-light is designed for 5000hrs use . I think other "Top brand" is 8000hrs to 10000hrs.

If I watch this TV for 5hours everyday, the back-light will be reach their designed lifetime after almost 3 years, but VIZIO only cover 1 year.

This is the reason why I added "I don't know the reliability" in my last post.
I hope my VIZIO will get problem on the 1st day of 3years past...

I will try to help clear up Vizio's confusing model names and numbers.

Based on this info, I can conclude the Vizio SV470M is the Walmart model number of the VL470M HDTV announced in the January 7th press release. Both of these are brand new HDTVs just released and are not the same as the SV470XVT. These are a newer generation HDTVs with better contrast ratio, better image processing, and better sound processing than the SV470XVT.

Of course don't confuse these with the newer generation SV471XVT, which is the next generation of the XVT line-up which is 240 Hz (actually 120 Hz with scanning backlight).

So the SV470XVT is being replaced with the SV471XVT. The VL470M is a brand new line of Vizio HDTVs, which has a Walmart model number of SV470M.

you may have misread the life span of the back light. it isn't 5,000 hours. it is 50,000 hours. 5 hours of use a day will last for 27 years.

How bad is the artifacting with these newer sets? I was considering the SV420M due to the great price, but I was turned off by CNET's SV470XVT review that reported artifacting and inconsistent motion smoothness. But Vizio's motion technology may have improved since last year.

Bantaku, they say that most problems happen within the first year of owning a TV. If you get through the first year without problems you should be in the clear. For this reason many people avoid getting the extended warrany. You get a 1 year warranty from the manufacturer and thats when most problem happen. But if it makes you feel more comfortable getting the warrany then thats great too.

I've had my SV470M for a week now and I'm very happy. It's huge!

I've set the picture setting to "movie" on all inputs and this looks better to me, by lowering the back light. Has anyone else found some custom settings they like?

I also changed the digital audio out to Dolby Digital, from the standard PCM, and my receiver likes that better.

So far, it's great!

Motorhead and anyone else who wants to try...theres a long thread on the vizio xvt models and someone there did some really good calibrating with that set and posted alot of excellent results.

These models are almost the same so you could probly try the settings from that tv and try them on this model...thats what I will do cause Im gonna get this tv soon myself after I save some extra cash

Two weeks with my SV470M and I now see what all the hype is about HDTV's. I am not getting any work done around the house because I can't walk away from this tv. Hopefully this thread will grow with good tips on settings and problems. The XVT thread is at 88 pages and I'm sure there is good info buried in there but I have to go watch some golf in hd.

The SV420M claims to have 50,000:1 Contrast

The SV420XVT claims to have 6,500:1 Contrast yet costs $200 more then the SV420M

I must be missing something here. How can the 420M be cheaper???

They're both measured in terms of "dynamic contrast ratio" which is supposed to be a meaningless marketing gimmick. The XVT might have a higher actual contrast than the other set.

Spend the extra $200 on a 47" M.

My entertainment center wont fit any tv wider then 40 inches. The 42" model has a width of 39.3 inches so I assume the 47 inch set would be too wide.

Bummer.

The 420M is $798 on Walmarts website but $897 in the store. The stores DON'T price match the online prices.

Dude just do site to store. That way you pay the online price and it get shipped to the store and you pick it up. It may take a few days but I think saving nearly $100 is worth it.
