Strange...that's never happened to me before...I just get kicked back to the main BC2 screen.

I also had an instance where my audio simply just cut out for the game. Never happened to me before.

hi, all,
been lurking silently, and you all seem like an awesome bunch. please add me-- i'd love to join some of you, sometime! please feel free to check my stats (can't recall the URL)-- i'm a team player (i have a pretty strong squad score), although my K/D isn't necessarily the best. i tend to be more of a CQ-fighter and i can pilot with the best of 'em. :-0

i hope to start sending/receiving friend requests tonight... please do add me!

Just played this game for the first time last night. I was impressed by the visuals and gameplay but I must have looked like I never touched a controller before. I played BAD. I am not too bad in CoD but this just pwned me. The game was the one where you got to blow up the two points then move on to the next two.

Anyone have any tips for someone just starting this game? I don't think my pride can take any more beatings like that.... A good little guide for noobs would be something good to read, if anyone has any inputs! I appreciate it!!!

They did a few up dates. I noticed there were more blue and orange triangles. The map is easier to read some how. What else?

you'd probably get more out of checking out some links on YouTube, but off the top of me head:

1) be patient. it will take a while to get into the flow of things!
2) don't force it. if you are getting owned and it's frustrating you, just back out, take a breather, and try again later.

3) know when to run and when to creep. tank shooting at you? sprint! nao! otherwise, be careful-- your weapon isn't at the ready while running, and sometimes you'll run yourself right into a really bad situation. get used to being crouched down, which incidentally helps you avoid taking damage and steadies your aim.
4) aim for the chest, up. there is more area to hit when you shoot at when aiming lower, but you'll of course need more shots. i tend to aim for the heart and let the recoil spin me up into a headshot when possible.

5) know your kit's strengths and weaknesses. if you are a medic, run FROM tanks, not TOWARDS them. reverse that if you are an engineer.
6) likewise-- use your kit! if you are a medic, for example, toss out health packs to your mates! they stay alive and you get points.

7) double tap 'A' when jumping from high places-- this will deploy your parachute and guarantee a gentle landing.
8) don't stay stationary for too long. (especially in non-hardcore modes when your enemies can see you on kill-cam.)

9) use your squad. first off, you should be running with a squad-- 'lone gunman' tactics rarely work well. while we're here: turn on your headset and communicate! a well-organised squad is nearly unstoppable.
0) use the 'back' button to spot. even if you dont get the kill, youll get assist points and help your team win. this is less-useful in hardcore mode, but still works!

lastly-- have fun. who cares what your KDR or SPM are?

Thanks for the tips!!! Part of my problem was a lot of issues were control issues carrying over from MW2, like pressing in on the stick to stab, or RB to throw a gernade. I also did not know how to deploy a parachute. Is that a one time thing? I need a couple more hours I think to get into the tempo of the game and to learn the maps a bit. I like the pacing of the game a lot better than MW2. It kind of makes MW2 feel like an arcade shooter...

Check this thread out: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1234494

Might be a little overwhelming , but it's got some good info. I'd figure out what class best suits your play style, and stick with it for a while. I think medic, once you unlock the defibrillator and medkit, is the easiest class to do well with.

i can understand those control issues! same thing here when going from Halo to BFBC2...

the parachute can be used anytime you jump off of something, i believe. there may be a refresh period, but if so, i haven't noticed it.

if you want, friend-req me (Gamertag: dae giovanni) and maybe we can squad up. i'll be on starting about an hour from now.

Pretty slick!

But who's Smiling Killer (or is that a random photo you found?)

Had some good games last night with a few AVSers and another friend. Tons of fun but my W/L ratio took an absolute beating (from 1.77 to 1.56 ), the other team just steamrolled us a few times (before any AVSers got there actually). Once we got some talent on our team it was much more of a fight thankfully.

By far the closest finish I've ever had on a game on the daytime snow map, on assault we were on the last set of M-Coms and we had 8 reinforcements left. Group of us ran up and planted at A and took it. Somehow we held B long enough to plant a bomb and at the wire the bomb was about to go off and we had 2 reinforcements left. It switched to the "I'm about to blow up" sound and we dropped to 1 reinforcement. Apparently they diffused it in the last few milliseconds though...SO CLOSE!

I haven't played in at least a week (got my free Red Faction Guerrilla from buying Darksiders, that game is a blast). I guess I need to play some more.

A medic works really well on Rush. We were defending the M-Com and this guy kept on reviving us. That's all he did. It's also a good feeling when you get revived. Some one revived me right when the match was over. I was running around shooting everyone.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is a better game than Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

Though war is hell, the characters in 'Bad Company 2,' above, have a lot more fun than the somber types in 'Modern Warfare 2.'

Yup, I went there. I'm not taking refuge in nuances. Unlike many critics, I'm not weaseling out of making a tough call by saying that they are both great games.

Of course they are both great games, but no one can honestly reply, I don't care when asked if you should pull into Burger King or McDonald's. (Other suitable analogies: Toscanini versus von Karajan, Red Sox versus Yankees, Ginger versus Mary Ann.)

When it comes to these global mass-market products, everyone has a favorite. And when it comes to the latest generation of hard-core first-person combat shooters, I find Bad Company 2, released recently by Electronic Arts for Windows PCs, the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3, more sophisticated, more immersive, a boatload funnier and simply more interesting than Modern Warfare 2.

I think that phone ringing is Bobby Kotick, chief executive of Activision Blizzard, publisher of the Call of Duty series, calling to tell me that he's going to eat my heart for breakfast tomorrow while he enjoys his world-class art collection. O.K., I'm just joking about the threatened ventricle roasting. But those are the sorts of passions involved in the fight between E.A. and Activision for the loyalty (and money) of the serious shooter fans who collectively spend millions of hours every day playing these games.

The Call of Duty franchise, after all, has sold more than 55 million copies and generated around $3 billion in retail sales over the past seven years. The most recent game in the series, Modern Warfare 2, was the biggest commercial hit of 2009 and has already become one of the best-selling games of all time.

John Riccitiello, the chief executive at Electronic Arts, had only one hope of cracking Modern Warfare 2's stranglehold on today's shooter fan: the Stockholm game studio E.A. acquired in 2006 that is known as DICE.

As recently as five years ago the Swedish company's Battlefield series was riding high. If you were a serious online PC shooter fan in the middle of the last decade, you were certainly playing Battlefield games. But then Activision swiped the market. Moving the Call of Duty games from World War II to the modern day made the games more exciting for many players.

The Call of Duty games included a robust offline component, allowing players to progress through a scripted story surrounded by computer-controlled opponents and comrades, while the most popular Battlefield games were essentially built to be played only online against other people. And players of Call of Duty were able to build a persistent online identity, so their virtual soldier would become more capable and deadly over time; earlier Battlefield warriors would almost always begin with the same abilities.

With Bad Company 2, the Battlefield series has now matched or exceeded the Call of Duty series in each of these areas.

First, modernity. Each franchise is actually quite similar in its fictional setting. In both series you play a Western soldier confronting a menace originating from the former Soviet Union.

But Bad Company 2 allows players to use a much broader range of modern military materiel, including tanks, helicopters, Humvees and other vehicles. More important, the virtual environments in Bad Company 2 are much larger and more diverse than those in Modern Warfare 2. Multiplayer battles in Modern Warfare 2 feel like chaotic arenas with people running all over the place looking out for themselves. In Bad Company 2, teamwork and voice communication are essential; the combat environments are more interesting and feel more akin to what I imagine a modern war zone to be.

Yet the biggest leap in Bad Company 2 is in its single-player campaign. It is only six or eight hours long comparable in length to the main story in Modern Warfare 2 and while it is not propelled by scripted set pieces as cinematic as those in the competition, Bad Company 2's narrative glistens. The characters in Bad Company 2 the redneck, the hippie pilot, the geek, the weathered sergeant are profane, quirky and usually hilarious. By contrast, the characters in Modern Warfare 2 are somber, even dour. War is obviously serious business, but the characters in Bad Company 2 seem to be having a lot more fun.

And third, DICE has now fine-tuned the persistent role-playing components of the online game, by giving players a panoply of ways to advance their characters and garner recognition from other users around the world.

One final technical note for consumers: Bad Company 2 is a game that needs to be played on a powerful PC, rather than a console, in order to be fully appreciated. I played mostly on a big rig from AMD, the chip maker, that was able to produce some of the most beautiful graphics I have seen in a shooter. Perhaps more important, the AMD machine came with an ATI Radeon HD 5870 video card that is able to support three monitors at once.

The experience of playing on three monitors, with the peripheral vision it allows, has simply been a revelation. I will continue enthusiastically to use Intel and Nvidia-equipped computers as well, but it may be impossible for me ever to return to a single-monitor setup.

As for the battle of the first-person shooters, let it rage. It is players who are reaping the benefits of this arms race between Activision and Electronic Arts. For now Bad Company 2 is on top.

Nice read. I agree, with team work and it really really works. I remember playing with avs players and I was on the other side. You guys had the team work going really well. One guy was tanking and two others were right behind the tank. Using the tank as cover and fixing the tank as well. We got destroyed and I just quit because there was only 5 players left on my team.

Odd, no mention of Destruction. That's one of its biggest strengths.

Yea, the Destruction works really well especially when your attacking. I used a mortar strike on "A", it was the last M-Com, and threw a gernade at it and took out 2 guys. Opened up the building and two more guys were camping near the station, team mate took them out. Set the bomb then we won! Awesome.

That wouldn't have happened to have been Arica Harbor on Wednesday night? I think we made it through that map in under 5 minutes - it was insane. I didn't notice you on the other team though.
