this may be old news, but i just got the recent Gameinformer... there is an interview with one of DICE's exec. producers.
i'm paraphrasing (uhm, somewhat), but in the piece, the interviewer more or less asks 'you released a good game... then didn't release ANY content for six months. are you on drugs?'
the response: 'bfbc2 was a bigger success than we thought. we did not account for that.'
later, the interviewer states, 'a lot of people stopped playing around Rank 25 because there are no real rewards beyond that. again, in your design team on crack?
the response: 'we didn't think most people would hit level 22. our calculations on how many people would reach level 22 was completely wrong. we thought people wouldn't play that much.'
wow. in other words, 'we spent all this time on this game that we knew was totally awesome, but we didn't think anyone would play it. at all, really.'
i find all that a bit disappointing. hindsight is 20/20, but DICE's business analysts must be really ******. maybe they will find a clue in time for Battlefield 3!
