Played a few demo rounds, looks and sounds great. 4 classes, main/secondary weapons plus a specialty, although I don't like how they combined the sniper weapon with C4 as the specialty (Recon I think it's called). There are unlockable additional weapon slots for each class, so I'm sure you can add it to any class after you have enough XP. Gameplay is smooth and fun, the mini map is a little confusing to me, but I'm sure it just takes some getting used to. Overall a very nice surprise!

I too liked that in the first game the Specialist class had the C4. They had to remove a class though to enable 4 players per squad. If you choose the shotgun or thompson, you will get C4 as well regardless of class (I believe).

Anyone getting the 'connecting to game', but then continually failing? DL'd around 1:00 EST, but continually fails to join games. Just too busy perhaps?
It's probably either that, or there are too few people on it right now - I don't think a lot of people realize that there is a demo out for it right now...

It could also be due to new servers and such just taking a long time to make the matchmaking go up...I remember when Halo 3 came out and MW1 came out it was like that too...

This happened with BF1943 when it came out. Probably too busy. Its front page news on all the game sites now.

I was able to join a game, but seemed to have alot of problem with lag. Maybe because so many are downloading it now?
Played the demo and I'm officially excited.

I love COD but I think I'm getting burnt on on the series. Add in the fact that there's so many glitches and people really only care about gaining XP and K/D ratios, it's just not that fun anymore.

I loved BFBC1, and BFBC2 seems like it will be even better. Gameplay was fine for me in the two games I just played. No noticeable lag on my end.

i am about to jump on -- may I suggest we use Battlefield AVS (Xbox Live) list?
I'll be on for a bit trying demo for first time in a bit if anyone wants to play.

Downloading now, gonna eat first then try this beech out!

Tried it out today for about an hour. Going to take a little time to get used to. I had a hard time tracking people while shooting. This seems like it will be a much better experience. If people play as a team this can be a GREAT game. I didn't play the first Bad Company, but with some more time with this I think I will really like it.

Seems like it will be hard to use Rockets and Noob tubes like MW2 for easy kills (thank god). Spawning with Teammates is really cool. I spawned in a vehicle which I didn't expect at all. One game my team destroyed all the objectives. Again, didn't think the level would keep growing to add more objectives. I think it ended up being 4 or 5 areas total.

I don't understand the classes and what they are able to do. Medic is obvious, but engineer (which I played as) didn't seem to have a special power. I assume fix vehicles and turrets.

YES thank the lord that the grenade launchers are not overpowered. I use them more to expose enemies in buildings or if there is a big firefight going on, then launch one.
Engineers can fix vehicles and for anti-armor support.
Assault provides ammo.
Recon has C4 and can unlock Mortar Strikes.

Awesome, thanks! I figured it would be along the lines of Return to Castle Wolfenstein with the classes (which to this day is still my favorite online game on Live that I ever played).

I was using the Rocket Launcher to either destroy armor or knock out walls. Really all they are good for. YAY! No more BS deaths!!!

I thought the PS3 version looked a bit sharper--different map though. I definitely prefer this map though. I like some things (tanks, sound fx) and dislike others (every squad I got into was full of snipers, avatars cursing like Xbox live dbags). It should be better with friends.

Prolly be way better when people have to put up the bucks for the full game. I also thought the PS3 beta looked better, and God yes, the sound in this game is friggin epic. LOL about the snipers. I was able to stalk down and up in to the 4 story open building and knifed 5 of those dbags from the other team, made my day.

I like how you say everyone is swearing and then swear yourself.....

I didn't know the demo wazs out, I can't wait to blow away a sniper's cover!

I played for 3 or so hours last night and do enjoy it. It is just a demo so we only get one mode, 1 map, and like 1 unlock per class, so that kind of sucks for now. A couple of questions and comments from those who have played this series before.

1. In Rush mode, when you are the attacker, to win, you need to destroy the objectives, then you unlock the next map, repeat, repeat, repeat. So I think you need to win all 4 locations to win the match?

2. How do the defenders win, just stop the attackers on any map? I.E, You stop them on the first part, you win?

3. Whats up with the attacking UAV's? Does that come with the Sniper class or something?

4. Why don't the stats track your wins/losses anywhere? Or am I just missing it. I looked through all the screens (I think), and can't find it.

Comments:

If you notice, the attackers have 75 lives, the defenders unlimited, you can see the count on the mini-map.

Start mini-rant

If you are a attacker, and you just HAVE to snipe, PLEASE, for the love of god, move up and snipe, do NOT do it form the fricken spawn. If I am trying to get the objective, and you are in my squad and sniping from the spawn, I have to spawn back there and go all the way back (usually by foot!)

To add, if the defenders have UNLIMITED lives, what good are you doing sniping from back there. You can't cover the objective locations cause you cant see them. All you are doing is getting kills for yourself. Just move up, find a good spot CLOSER to the objective, and cover those of us who are actually trying to WIN the match.

End Rant

Played for a couple hours last night with a couple buddies. Think my copy of MW2 may be going up for sale soon! Like someone said, it's going to take some getting used to after coming off twitchy COD, but it just feels like a much more pure shooter to me. I wish they wouldn't cap the squads at 4, but I guess it will keep things more balanced. I forget how BF43 did it, but say we have 6-8 people in our party, can we all join the game at once and then split in to squads?
Sorry to breakup the love fest, but I played it last night for an hour...and I want that hour of my life back.
What a crappy game.
Horrible textures, unrealistic physics, clunky interface, and lousy control scheme.
Typical garbage from EA and DICE who haven't put out a decent game since BF2.

BTW - since mom always told me to try to say something nice...
there are no killstreaks, or gimmicks like that, which is a relief.
Too bad it's ugly and unplayable.
Played some last night and loved it. It's nice not to see game changing glitches, killstreak rewards, perks, etc.

Also, it seemed to me that leading shots worked a lot more the way I think it should and I didn't have to lead much on moving targets meaning either there's little lag or better compensation for it unlike MW2. Also, the lack of lag in general was wonderful. It's amazing how much better a game runs when there's not 4 AI controlled killstreak rewards flying in/out of the map at any given time due to infinite care package glitches etc.

I also love that carrying out the role of your class and actually attacking/defending objectives is a lot more rewarding compared to MW2.

I'm not a big stats person and I'm not very good a lot of the time, but my K/D is much better on BC2 than MW2. Had a high of 1.25 overall last night and that was actively attacking/defending positions. I don't think I've ever broken 1 within 46 or so levels of MW2...granted MW2 just may not fit my play style.

BTW, there's nothing more satisfying than blowing up a camper's cover and/or the camper compared to never being able to get to them as they have infinite claymores and n00b tubes like MW2 due to unbalanced perk/streak reward combos.

IMO, this game will most likely cause me to retire from MW2 if the full game is at least as good as the demo.

Well its a better game than bc1 i can tell from playing the demo but there are still alot of problems.

1. Spawn killing. Has been a problem with every battlefield game. Its still relevant in this one.

2. Sluggish command response. Besides firing a weapon, it literally takes two seconds for your button commands to take action. This really sucks because alot of times it leaves you vulnerable to your plan of action.

3. Movement. When moving through buildings and tree areas i always find myself getting stuck on something or having to try two or three times just to run up a flight of stairs. You literally get stuck on everything imaginable.

4. Lag. Not ubearable lag but the fluctuating lag thats there in all games really shows in this one. Headshots dont register at times and just losing gunfights you clearly should have won because of lag.

5. Vehicle controls. Why is it dice always finds a different control scheme for vehicles with every installment? Do they intentionally try to make vehicle control hard? Flying a chopper is literally suicide.

6. Lack of hud. Id like to know where people are when they are shooting. Seems the only thing we have are uav choppers to point em out. Whats the point of having hardcore modes when literally the base modes are hardcore style. I cant tell you how many times ive had someone kill me when they were standing near me without knowing it.

In all, the game is clearly better in a few departments, but has taken a step backwards in other departments. The gameplay and controls still seem weighty and sluggish, but the presentation and visuals are clearly better. The map seems to be a hint that all the maps will be really good. Destruction 2.0 seems to be the same as 1.0 with collapsable buildings and thats about it. I cant even blow up roadblock slabs with a tank cannon. And certain parts of buildings cannot be destroyed no matter what you shoot at it. So whats the big deal there. Its still a breath of fresh air compared to playing mw2 all the time. Its just not as good in improvement as i was expecting. Keep in mind i still have alot to learn with this demo so getting used to and working around these issues are still in progress. To me its still a buy.
I like it. I think it does a good job of carrying on that battlefield "feel". Definitely very rewarding when you play as a squad and continue to move up. Jumped on with one other guy and we won about 8 games in a row. pretty easy for one squad to control the game when the other team is running around like idiots..

Only thing.. I dont know about the main weapons for the classes. the medic should not be carrying a LMG that is for sure. And a silenced weapon for the engineer? Cmon now...
So, I downloaded the game and fired it up. I was a bit confused by the classes (no clue what the differences are) and such but I got the hang of it. Problem is...the game plays exactly the same as BF1942 did 7+ years ago. The movement is jerky, the game doesn't play even remotely smooth, everything is robotic. Like, the graphics aren't really any better than BF1943 on XBLA. I played part of 1 match and quit, deleted it off the HDD.

I'll definitely be skipping over this one. Why can't they make it play like a normal FPS game and THEN add the vehicles in? The FPS part of it is so ho-hum.
I agree. The battlefield series has been one of my favorites for years. And since a few installments back its had the same problems and mechanics its always had. I love the series dont get me wrong, but seems the only upgrades the series has gotten on the next gen consoles are slightly better graphics and the frostbite engine. Neither of those are really refreshing with each installment. I can think of a few really poor fps series that atleast took the time to get the controls and response tight. But im still buying the game because i just love battlefield despite its flaws. The way i see it everyone has to deal with it so its a level playing field.
Everyone in Europe had to deal with the plague as well but that didn't mean that you wanted it personally...

OK, so maybe that's a really bad reference, but still.

Played with a squad of friends last night. First game or two I hated it. Then I fixed the brightness and turned the x-axis sensitivity up to full blast. After being beaten badly a few times by people who clearly knew what they were doing, we started to figure out the maps, chokepoints, etc. We ended up playing all night and had a blast. Unlocked a few weapons and that made things better too.

At first I didn't like the medic class but once I figured out how to revive it was awesome running in a squad with 1 medic, 2 engineers, and 1 assault. It was bad ass. I just kept reviving and we kept pushing forward. I think it's important to build a good squad of classes and run together in this game. Even with snipers, I saw squads of 3-4 snipers sitting in prime sniping spots together as a group and just picking people off like crazy. Also, playing as a squad, my friend as engineer totally saved my butt a few times as enemies tried to approach me from behind or the side as I sniped. I just hope people will play the game this strategically online (i.e. with randoms).

THANK GOD YOU DON'T HAVE TO HIT THE D-PAD TO CHAT IN THIS GAME! Remember when it was like that when BC1 first came out? Terrible. Glad they didn't go back to that again.

Also I really like the helicopter and UAV controls over BC1. Much easier to fly. At first I couldn't kill anything with the UAV, then I sort of got the hang of it. You have to look for people/vehicles who like to post up some where for at least 20-30 seconds before they move. They do that and you see them in the UAV and they're dead meat lol. Is there no 3rd person view in vehicles in BC2? If so, that's too bad as that's always how I used to drive ground vehicles in BC1. Oh well, more realistic I suppose, it is a FPS after all.

Anyone know the status of the free limited edition upgrade on pre-order in Canada? I went to Game Stop today in Toronto and they were offering the free ak74 code with pre-order but nothing about the free upgrade to limited edition that's talked about all over the Web.

Yeah I gotta say I wasnt too impressed with the gameplay either. Graphics were nice!!! And I love the big maps and using the vehicles.. But the controls and motion were as jerky 1 legged stripper dancing to 80's music. Also what does it take a shot to register I was shooting people with a sniper rifle and couldnt tell if I hit them or not until it said 'Daekwan17 has sniped XXXXXX'. Was even worse trying to fight medium to close distances and its like I never knew if I killed a guy or not, even after dumping a whole clip.

As much as I'd love to see MW2 get dethroned, because I think IW has gotten too cocky.. BFBC2 wont be the game to do it.

You played for 10 minutes. Did you try bumping your sensitivity up? I had to move it up almost all the way just to be able to turn as fast as I am used to.

Anyway, there are bullet physics which may explain some sniping issues. I don't think there is a sound when you hit someone, but your crosshair does something.

Give him a break, he hated MW2 for ages before finally liking it just about 2 weeks ago... :P

And, the crosshair goes to an X when you hit someone.

I don't find the controls to be clunky at all. It is going to take time from a full run to pulling a rifle to your shoulder and looking down the sights and to me that feels about right. MW2 always seemed to much like your guy was on crack.
