first pic of new SMX screen, pretty straight forward to assembly. WOW this screen is big it was a little tricky hanging it myself, my wingspan wasn't wide enough but I made it happen. I highly recommend this screen cineweave material is sick

I have some old screen pics with the Elite screen but I have to take some with the SMX... can't beat having the sound coming thru the screen though

Just for giggles you could drape the old screen over half the new one and then take some pics.

Granted, the AT is pretty sweet for letting you hide those speakers out of view. I could see getting some black AT material and building 4 false walls so you could hide all the speakers.

msmCutter I totally hear you, my oringal design was the Elite screen (150")
with the left & right speaker hidden behind GOM black fabric but since my ceiling are pretty low and center channel was 14" of the floor. sound imagining was poor... But I will post pics of screen shots between both screens...
Are you planning on using Elite screen...they make an AT screen.
But I never got a response about custom size screen so I updote for the SMX and very happy with the end result

I've been trying to dial in my new D2v..doing some arc test and setting up
D2v video settings... It sounds like the acoustic foam behind screen wall is making some sound improvements

I'm actually more interested in the SMX you've got. I'd like to see what it looks like right next to other stuff. It looks great all it's own (in pictures) but I'm really curious how you like it visually compared to a more standard screen. I'm torn between screens like your new one and screens like the new Da-Lite/fancy Stewart screens.

What would be really great is a movie half on each screen from head on and at angles and such... in person. It seems the only way to really do that though is spend a grand+ on each screen. Wouldn't it be nice if there was some show room some place where we could actually see the difference in person before buying?

my question is do you care about the AT screen material?
I'll try my best to roll up the Elite screen right next to the SMX and play a 2.40 movie so you can see the difference in picture quality. From my early experience in between both screens the audio effect on the SMX is awesome but picture wise not so much difference. I know that the SMX screen has more gain than the Elite but the overall picture wasn't that noticable

That's pretty much what I'd like to hear. If the audio benefits don't come at a visual expense (like I hear they do on the Stewart AT) than why wouldn't you take them? With screens as big as ours it only makes sense that the sound stage would sound off if the speakers are placed around the screen instead of behind it. Still, if given the choice, I'd sacrifice what's hitting my ears before I sacrifice what's hitting my eyes.

That begs another question, would you say the difference in sound is drastic? I'd consider a small hit to picture quality for a DRASTIC increase in sound quality.

only in my own opinion, I've been going back and forth with what screen to replace my old Elite screen. I can say that SMX screen is an incredible AT screen. The picture quality doesn't suffer due to being AT. I was playing around with my setting and popped in K.F Panda and I was amazing how the sound literat scared the sh>?< out of me... Its a whole different experience its actually hard to example. Trust me I was hest & my wife wanted no part in me tearing down the screen wall.

Yesterday spent most of the night completing GOM black fabric panels around screen. I need to get my cabinet doors which I will cut out centers of and wrap in black fabric. Also was setting up D2v. D2v is one sweet processor

I popped in a movie just to check picture QT and can't believe how big this screen is
I have the Panny voomed out almost all the way and still have about 2" from the vertical sides
I wonder if there is a projector that can fill out the screen. Projector is mounted 20ft from screen What stinks is that the Panny is a great projector and only 2months old with about 40hours use. I'm already thinking of replacing it just for the 2" inches

being inspired by this forum... has anyone used their existing Armstrong drop ceiling panels to create a starfield ceiling???

I've found one company that makes prefab 2'x2' drop ceiling panels but they want an arm & leg for them.

If you want some info about it check out Anand Lal Shimpi's blog here as he is using that projector and really seems to like it. He's actually using it with an anamorphic lens for CIH, but that won't really modify the performance of the projector itself. From what I can tell the brightness is pretty amazing with that projector.

The rs10 is a great projector. I had one for my 150" wide 2:35 smx. I first used it by the 'zoom' method and then later got a panamorph uh480. However as the bulb hours accumulated it became more and more clear that I was pushing the limits, lumens wise. I would think your 140 would be better than my 150 though.

As for your throw distance not filling up the screen with the panny zoomed out - a anamorphic lens would fix that, since you only have to zoom out to a 16:9 size image.

thanks Shawn, yes I knew you had one before upgrading to the Sim. My wife would kill me So you think it would be a wise upgrade from the Panny in PQ.
Not that I have SMX screen I would like a projector with the WOW factor. The panny doesn't do that anymore...This hobby is quite the sickness. I wish you still had yours for saleDo you recommend Avs for pricing?

By the way how's Vegas? winning big?

I was thinking of building more fabric panels on the left and the right. I don't know if it would look good since they won't be the same size.

Gotta say I really like the look of these panels - nice job.
As for adding shorter panels to fill out the left and right sides; I would go for it because it appears that although shorter; being symmetrical would still look nice.
