IR Extender for my AVR-3808

Hi there

I have been searching the forums and google of a simple solution for my IR extender issue.

Let me first go over my current setup.
I have a Denon AVR-3808 (okay I am planning to get one soon) installed in a closet with all my other AV and computer gear. This removes all the cables from my living room which I like.

The problem is that all standard remote controls are IR thus making it impossible to use them when the receiver is in the closet.

I have seen several IR kits out there which is based on wired or wireless setup but mostly always with some "stick on IR broadcaster" which is supposed to be sticked on top of the IR eye on the AV equipment. I think this solution is very poor. On the AVR-3808 there is a jack IR extender connector which I was hoping to utilize instead.

In my mind a wire with a IR eye in one end and a jack stick in the other end would solve my problem. But I am not sure of this can be done this simple.

I am looking of either a Do-It-Yourself kit or a plug and play kit to extend the IR eye into my living room. Actually I would like to split the IR eye into two or more eyes making it possible for me to control my AVR-3808 from several rooms.

This simple drawing below should illustrate what I am trying to do.

take a look at this stuff

use this as your connecting block

And

Then from the connecting block to your receiver use this

And for your room IR receivers use any of these

It doesnt have to be this brand but yo will see how it all works

another option is to use a universal type remote that does RF, this will eliminate yo u haveing to pull wires and actually use the remote about anywhere in the house without IR receivers in the rooms

like a URC MX850 and a MRF260 base unit

Thanks alot! - That was a fast answer I must say

It looks pretty much as the stuff I need. Can I be sure that it will work with the Denon? And do you know if it's possible to to simple merge the inputs. So that I can use the connecting block that you linked with both my kitchen and my living room.

Yes merge the inputs and it should work fin with your denon

There is the possibility that the Denon uses a powered jack for that input...3 conductor input instead of 2...power ground and signal

May want to check that. I dont work with Denon oten enough to know

I found a solution from Channel View (I can't link since I am a new user at the forum)

It seems that it's possible to do what I wanna do.
I also checked the prices though and to get the stuff needed for my above setup I will easy cost me about 200$ (An amplified hub, two receivers and some cabling) in US prices and about the same in tax and delivery for getting it to Europe. That is like 25% of the price of the receiver.

I was wondering if there is a cheaper way around it. Maybe with some Do-It-Yourself kits.
