The "Official" Pioneer VSX-1019AH Owner's Thread - Page 59

Thank you for taking the time to respond in so detailed a manner, I am most grateful. BTW the best deals I have seen for so far are: $449 for the 1019 vs. $458 for the 21TXH. These are the delivered prices and I can get a 5% cashback bonus with my credit card for either one so the difference is about $9 (net). For $380 I would jump at the 1019, especially after your clarifications and personal experience with it. Would love to know your source(s).

Hi All,

I hope there's a solution to my question...

I have the 1019 receiver plugged into a 3 speaker system, a pair of energy c-50s and a c-c50 center - small apt. I can't seem to control the bass level. It's just too loud and overwhelms the speaking parts. I usually have it around -20 when there's people talking but then if an action scene comes up, I have to lower it to about -30 because it's so loud. Is there a way to lower the bass? I've used the MCACC to set up the speakers when I first got the equipment.

TIA.

I'd run MCACC again, and maybe lower the subwoofer level by 5 db or 10.

Hi. Thanks. I've tried running MCACC twice when I noticed the high bass but it didn't help. I'm not suing a subwoofer so would lowering that work?

I did change the distance for the speakers (sides to 5' and center to 10') and it seems to help a bit. I also tried enabling DNR but I'm not sure I hear any difference with that.... still playing around a bit.

Wish there were individual frequency sliders like the old equalizer bars they had way back in the 80's...

Wow the more you look through this manual and set this reciever up, the more questions are generated...

1. What is the frequency sampling rate capabililties of this receiver??? I have a blu ray player that can transmit 48, 96 and 192 khz signals. My status says the receiver is at 48 khz. Does it have the capacity to sample at a higher rate???

2. Is it possible to turn the video scaler off??? My blu ray player upconverts (non blu ray) media and my plasma (Panny V10) also upconverts...

Thanks!!!

Excellent - I missed that you weren't running a sub -- late night responses and all.

As usual, a great product (the 919/1019) is given a huge disservice by a bad manual. From page 58 of the manual, in a note at the bottom of the page:

This receiver can only play back Dolby Digital, PCM (32 kHz to 192 kHz), DTS (including DTS 96/24) and WMA9 Pro
digital signal formats. The compatible signals via the HDMI terminals are: Dolby Digital, DTS, WMA9 Pro, PCM (32
kHz to 192 kHz), Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital Plus, DTS-EXPRESS, DTS-HD Master Audio, SACD and DVD Audio
(including 192 kHz). With other digital signal formats, set to ANALOG (the MULTI CH IN and TUNER).
You may get digital noise when a LD or CD player compatible with DTS is playing an analog signal. To prevent noise,
make the proper digital connections (page 29) and set the signal input to DIGITAL.
Some DVD players don't output DTS signals. For more details, refer to the instruction manual supplied with your
DVD player.

Note that it doesn't give a full matrix of sampling rate and input signal type, but it is capable of handling all of the input frequencies you mentioned.

Thanks!!!

I believe it's:

(lower right side of the remote)
VIDEO PARAMETER
V.CONV ---> set this to OFF, it is ON by default.

See page 67 of the manual, you can also change conversion parameters if you want to leave it on.

Pioneer's online store doesn't have the 1019 or 919 available for purchase and Newegg no longer even lists these receivers. Does anybody know if there is something going on or maybe supply is really strained?? Would make sense... poor economy, buy up all the Pioneer A/V receivers you can!

I must have asked the one question on this forum that noboby knows the answer to, this must be a first. Any thoughts?

Newbie seeking a hand. I have a Panasonic tc-p50v10 and the Pioneer 1019AH. Haven't had any success in geting the kuro link to work with the HDTV. I am not certain if the Panny can control the Pioneer. The system is set up with cable box HDMI to the Pioneer HDMI to the Panasonic. Any help would be appreciated.

For those interested CNET has a thorough and favorable review of the Pioneer 1019. They now consider it the best receiver at this price point.

well, i'll hazard a guess that you are viewing in "alpha" order (vs. date, size, type, etc.) on your computer...

but the avr doesn't have those options...

Just received my 1019 yesterday. Will be hooking it up to Sony SS-F6000 floorstanders, SS-B3000 bookshelves, SA-W2500 sub and SS-CN5000 center.

I read the 60 pages plus on this thread while awaiting delivery but not sure I took it all in. I'll need lots of hand holding as I try to set this up

Wish me luck!!!???

Hi, new to this message board. Considering buying this receiver. Had one question...I have a pair of outdoor speakers. Will this unit support a 2nd zone for them?

Thanks

Yes both the 1019 and 919 have 2nd zone
One thing I've been curious about with the second zone is can you play music from an ipod in one zone while you watch a movie from another source in another? The description of the unit on amazon says:

"With features such as HDMI 1080p upscaling and the ability to simultaneously play music in one room and movies in another, this A/V receiver will quickly become the hub of your home entertainment center. And as a "Works with iPhone" certified receiver, you can use it to play music, movies, and photos from your iPhone."

I purchased the 1019 several days ago and had a sony amp for years but becoming outdated. I have the Samsung LN55B640 Lcd, Dish Network Dvr, Xbox 360 and PS3. I used the Sony for several months by running the optical sound to the reciever from the Dvr and Xbox due to using the xbox frequently for gaming. I fell in love with the sound from the DTS the Sony decoded and was sick of climbing behind the setup to switch the plugs around to watch blu-rays on my PS3 so i could get the same quality sound due to only having 2 optical inputs. I did tons of reading and the 1019 sounds to be the best for me. So my question, lol sorry for the life story.
I have everything set up. Hdmi from dvr,360, and still need to purchase a hdmi cord for the Ps3, but all into the 1019 and 1019 to tv. I only seem to get dolby digital decoding from the Dvr and 360. So attempting cycling through the choices by hitting the reciever button and all i can not get any thing but the DD. I did place a dvd into the 360 hddvd player and selected the dts option within the dvd menu and got dts to decode. When purchasing the 1019 I was very excited to see the new wonderful tech. What do i need to do to get these results or is the Dolby Digital that shows on the display the best that i can get.
I was mistaken on the 360 i get Neo, neural THX, Dolby PLII or DOlby Pro Logic, which of these is the most desired formats
post #1763 of 5087
I have my 1019 in an AV rack that's fully open on the front, sides and rear. There's about 10cm between the top of the receiver and the shelf above it in the rack. I know the manual says it should be 60cm but I figured the open sides and rear should help. This thing is running pretty hot on top of the receiver after only about 20 minutes of viewing a movie. Is this within normal range or potentially dangerous? Like bricking dangerous?

None of those are actually digital, but I don't know if 360 games feature digital audio. DVDs played in 360 should show Dolby Digital on the 1019. I never owned a 360 so don't know how the settings are done for it. For the PS3 if you set it to Bitstream HDMI audio your receiver will do the decoding for the lossless formats on Blu-ray movies.

well i have been messing with this since my last reply just learning the 1019, On the older sony anytime i turned the reciever on it would automatically play in DTS on the 360. All games, movies and even just on the dashboard. I have the sony in my bedroom now and with just a cheap set of home theater in a box speaker set and there is a noticeable difference on the old sony with the 1019. The same movie sounds significantly better. Even during gaming its not as sharp so far. While playing games the only option is DD. I have tried the powering them on sequence several times to see if that could be the problem. So far no solutions.

I think what may be happening is your Xbox 360 is encoding all signals to DTS and sending that to your receiver. You'll also want to set your 1019 to Pure Direct.

You can with the 1019, not with the 919. The 1019 will let you play iPod or USB music to the second zone, while using other sources to the first. The 919 doesn't but will let you play analog sources (example: a CD player connected by stereo connections) to the 2d zone.

Both will play all inputs (including iPod, USB sources) to the main zone.

I really don't like Pioneers cooling solution for my 919. I think a better design would have been to mount the cooling fan on the top of the unit (within the box) to draw air up and over the heatsink and out of the unit.

I have resorted to placing a low speed, vibration dampened 120mm fan on top of my unit to draw the heat out. The unit is running incredibly cooler. The thought of cooking electronics without it made me nauseous. But the fan is doing the trick nicely. If only the AVR had a built in AC receptacle. Would beat having to plug the fan in always. Overall, I don't mind as it is easily accessed.

Which fan are you using, where did you get it, and how much are they? Thanks!
