Official LG "XXLH90" 240hz LED Owners Forum [NO PRICE TALK] - Page 6

While I know BB isnt stocking them because they are too high end, the 90 series also has a matte screen. The Bezel is glossy but the screen itself is matte.
Is the manual for an XXLH90 available online anywhere? Could someone make it available?
Why do manufacturers make the bezel so damn glossy???
My Samsung DLP is the same way.

My mom's LG was up and running for 4-5 days before the mount arrived. When I took it down to install the mount you could see a layer of dust on the back of the case. The whole case is SO Glossy.

I ordered my 47LH90 from BB this past Tuesday and it arrived this morning around 8. Can't beat the delivery time at all! I haven't had this tv for long obviously but I'll give you my opinion so far.

SD looks okay, never really liked how SD looks on HDTVs anyways

X360 (Halo 3) looks really good so far. Haven't had the chance to play it much so once I've had more time with this tv I'll offer more on that.

PS3 blu-ray movie looks really good as well. Colors look amazing.

The Picture Wizard is nice to have for some calibration settings. Not extensive but does a nice job of helping you adjust settings. I'm going to be borrowing a calibration disc from a friend to see if I can't do more adjustments.

The 240hz TruMotion (Blu-Ray disc via PS3)
(OFF) looks good but has some motion blur
(LOW) best setting for me, reduced blur and makes panning smoother
(HIGH) don't like it, I have the same problem that someone else mentioned earlier. During quick movements you can see some pixel break up (don't know if that's the right term) around the object at some points.

That was with one movie I watched only a few minutes of, to get a feel of the tv before I went to work this morning.

Overall I'm happy with the tv so far. I paid $2,300 with tax while taking advantage of the 36 months interest free financing offered through BB. Also my boss at work has a sister that works for BB and she is working on getting me $200 back for the tv so that makes me like it even better : )
Like I've said before once I've had some more time to play with the tv I'll post another review. Feel free to ask any questions, remember I'm not an expert by any means though.

I went to BB today and there were none on display. I wonder where else I could buy this tv from?

If you're just wanting to buy one you can order it from BB. I ordered mine from the store. Told the guy what I wanted and he said it will be here in 2 days. BB Online said it would have taken a week.

As far as seeing one on display, the only place that I saw one was at Brandsmart but I think they are only located in GA and FL.

i'm more of a plasma person however better energy consumption and the resultant less of a heat element in the room temped me to try the 47LH90. considering i could have got a 60" plasma for what i paid, at a ~9' distance i'm liking the size more than i thought i would. the 47" size doesn't appear as small as it looks in store.
it has very good uniformity, no clouding issues or edge fading. i also find the picture darker than the typical led well retaining "led'ish" sharpness but without a unnatural cartoonish, photoshoped, "greenscreen" looking pop. it's much easier on my eyes, more plasma like.
so far colors are best at "isf expert 2" picture setting. white is often more blue than i'd like however i haven't attempted to calibrate it. any help there will be appreciated.
Can you post some pictures of your TV? I think most of us would like to see some screen shots on this TV.
I would post pics of mine with a blu-ray and game shots using both PS3 and X360 so people could get a feel of how it looks. The problem is the camera I have is a really cheap crappy camera so I feel it wouldn't do the tv justice. If I can get a hold of a nicer camera I'll get some pics up!
So you are the third person on here to actually own this TV and the Third person that doesn't have a digital camera, what is it with you guys, you should still be watching a CRT tube tv!!! LOL j/k but I do find it funny.
I have a fairly good digital camera. But, I'm still waiting for the HDMI cables to arrive. I should be able to take a couple photos next week (it's only going to be DISH in 1080i).

That would be awesome Nightmare, dish 1080i is pretty good however, take them on a good site like Discovery HD, ESPN orHD net.

Thanks!

Flyers you are pathetic. Get off your butt spend some gas money and drive around town and find a dealer who has one of these so you can actually look at it. You live in one of the largest cities in the US. The movie capital of the world. Home of silicon valley etc. I cant believe there isnt a stocking dealer somewhere. Almost ALL your posts are critical. No matter what we show or tell you you'll probably not be happy until you actually see a set for yourself. Now you dont like the fact that we dont have cameras that suite you. Are you serious??????? What do you have for a current tv, a 9" black and white?????? Oh and here is a news flash------BB can get one for you and if you dont like it, you can actually return it and get your MONEY back. After you get the set you can tell us all how bad it is LOL, LOL

Pathetic? If you want to comment then PM me but don't think your comments bother me, they don't and I don't give a rats what you think. I am trying to get you or one of the other owners to give a really good review of this TV since not many own it and you fail to do that. That is your perogative but getting a detailed review/comments is like pulling teeth on this thread. What the point of being on AVS if you're unwilling to give your detailed experiences? I don't come to this forum for idle chat. I want to get people experiences so that I have an idea of what others experience and see for my self and judge if I can see whatever it is and if I like/dislike it.

And if you must make assumptions, I will clear things up for you. I have visited all my local A/V store including the big box stores. The one store that told me it was coming it still don't have it and they told me that it's two weeks late from when they were supposed to get it. I've called around and not one store has has any. You do know what a telephone is, don't you? So I don't need to "get off my butt" and drive around all creation, especially to Silicon Valley, which BTW, is 7 hours North of LA, so you might what to take a geography lesson or look at a map while your at it. Actually, do you even know where Silicon Valley is? Hmmm I bet not. Oh, and for your information, Silicon Valley doesn't manufacture TV's, nor do they get inventory before the rest of the country. Speaking of that, I was reading a post on the plasma forum about someone that has seen the new 1" Panasonic Z1 in a Best Buy and you know where that was? Massachusetts and one in Minnesota. Guess who has them on display in LA? NOBODY, ZERO! That is my attempt at making a point that just because I am in LA doesn't mean squat.

If you read your own posts and the others who own it, which by my count was four, now three, Pallouisj returned his, not one of you is has a glowing review on it. I read posts on other TV's and you can tell who love their TV and many give a nice detailed review when asked by other people who potentially want to purchase it. Also, if you read my posts, I've stated many times that I will wait to judge for myself with my own eyes. As for my camera comment did you know that "j/k" means joking?
I believe I am one of many that don't want to spend $2500 for something we haven't seen and just return it if we don't like it, please.

Pathetic, I think not, but think what you will, I don't really care.
a few real user pics instead of promotional pics on BB etc would be nice to get. also, i would have been happy to drive and call around to see if any store is getting one in the LA area if there was at least one owner with glowing reviews on this TV.

Calm down flyers ! I think he was simply sarcastically picking on ya !

FYI itgary I live near the 4th largest city in the U.S. and not one local B&M store has this LG on display either.

With that being said after next weekend the shoot-out will be over and hopefully a few stores will have this new LG & the Tosh 670U on display for our own eyes to review.

Regards to All !

so far i'm not seeing motion breakup that was mentioned. i have a panasonic bd605 source component. shadow detail could be better and the overall image seems dark to me. i don't have a good camera on hand but if you have specific questions i can try to answer them.

Thanks marcp. Does the blacks and colors washout at an angle and how badly. With every LCD there will always be some washout, it just about how they handle it and typically LG wasn't great at it.

In regards to my new 55LH40, that I do like so far, there has been one problem with lip-syncing lag with the following config':

BD390 blu-ray player, through a rockfish 8' HDMI cable into the TV, then Optic audio out of the TV into my fairly new Yamaha receiver. Noticable lip-sycing lag! I pull the Optical out of the TV and went from the blu-ray straight to the receiver. Problem solved.

Not a deal breaker, but it'd be nice to only have one fiber cable instead of 2 fibers and one copper (RCA).

I know this is a LH90 thread, but the HDMI to audio out can not be too difference between the two.
Somewhat of an update.

Blu-rays look amazing! I still get the small break up with the 240hz set to high but it's not happening as much. I think I still prefer to have the setting on low.
As far as the viewing angle, I can't really comment on that as I have a small room and this tv fills it up. From what I have seen it's not bad at all though.

240hz has A LOT of break up on high setting when playing halo 3. Again I put it on low of off, can't really decide which I like better cause both have pros and cons.
Playing guitar hero metallica, I didn't have any break up that I noticed but that also could be cause I'm only focusing on the 5 moving circle.

If you have any specific questions or something that you would like me to try, I'll do my best to answer them.

The Magnolia in BB in Manhattan Beach has a 47" on the wall in demo mode.

viewing angles are excellent. i see no noticeable fade out even at 60º off axis, 75º is good too. if i really try to see a value change it only slightly appears when looking at letterboxed bars. i.e., black=10,white=0/everything in between + - shades of gray, l.b. bars would be 9.5, it's that good.

i didn't know the 240hz can be turned off, haven't read the manual yet.

now i think network hd programs look best with the av mode set to off and picture mode "isf expert 1" , backlight 68, contrast 88, brightness 59, h sharpness 57, v sharpness 56, color 50, tint g3 one notch to the green from center of red/green. local dimming on.
blue ray movies are better with av mode set to thx cinema, for now anyway, may change with the next few disc i rent the next trip to the video store.
white tints and tones are looking better to me since my first post. std. def. is not so good to me, never liked it on any of the hi-def. sets. i still have my circa '93 sony xbr^2 crt for that. i don't care to play video games so i can't comment on that.

Do you mean the one in El Segundo? I was just there today and they don't have one. They have a last years model, the LH90 that is on clearance. The only new ones they have are the LH55, 40 and 30 but no LH90.
Sorry Flyers I was only joking. Hint to all: If BB or others start to get these in stock where you can actually see them make sure the set you see isnt in the Store Demo mode. The first setting you make is to select "Home Use" or "Store Demo". From the supplied manual "we recommend setting the TV to Home Use mode for the best picture in your home environment. Store Demo mode is intended for use in retail environments. Store demo mode is an optimal setting for displaying at stores." If you see the "demo" you are in the store mode. The home Use mode has no "demo" available. I also would agree that without playing with any individual settings/adjustments the TV looks best out of the box in the Expert 1 or Expert 2 modes accessed from the Q. Menu button on the remote not the remotes yellow AV Mode button which does not bring up Expert 1 or 2. You can however see what a BIG difference changing the settings will make by using the AV Mode button and cycling thru THX Cinema, Sport, Game, and back to OFF. Have Fun. PS. More advanced settings for TV for ME are as follows: Energy Savings OFF; Expert 1 Backlight 40, Contrast 83, Brightness 62, H Sharpness 55, V Sharpness 50, Color 47, Tint G1, LED Local Dimming On. These are just the basic, wont get into the other 50 or so user adjustable settings except to mention I leave Tru-Motion(240hz) off and real cinema On only for DVD. And remember you make all these adjustments for each input so your settings for your tv, tivo, blu-ray etc might be different.

No problem Itgary, I might have over reacted, my appologies as well.

Thanks for the info, I will try those setting when and if I ever get the chance of actually seeing one of these. BTW, how would you compare the LH90 to others you have either owned or have liked in the stores?
When I included, FYI, my settings I forgot to mention that in going into the Expert Setting mode you get dozens of other adjustments i.e. gamma, noise reduction, edge enhancement etc. etc. While I dont know how much difference they make one White Balance will definitely change everything else. I have WB set at Warm.
to Flyers: If I remember from one of my first posts I stated that I bought my 47" 47lg90(last years model) ONLY after having seen it alongside a Samsung 950 and Sony XBR(the led one) in a Magnolia Home Theater in Jensen Beach Florida. That comparison, and I had my homemade test disc with me, convinced me the LG was the better set. I played with all three for some time and they were right alongside each other. The LG was smaller at 47" with the other two being 52-55 but I liked it better. When we got home to Ohio I ordered the 47. How the LG's stack up against current models of Samsung, Sony, Toshiba I dont know. None of our stores stock them for comparison including the LG which can be ordered but not seen. If LG would have produced a 55" I would have bought that size but 47 was the largest last year. When the new LH90 series came out this year I bought the 55 sight unseen based on how much I liked my 47" which went to the bedroom. IMO LG only improved upon the sets with this years models. As I have written earlier the LH90's have some useful features lacking on last years models(and a couple of useful features are now missing ie digital coaxial output, s-video input. Price points have also come down and now you have three sizes in the line-up not counting the super slim series with a wireless box for tuner/inputs etc.
I know this is off topic but I cant find a thread for this model. Does anyone know anything about the lg47lh55??

Pros & cons, either would be helpful. Of course I can find the general info/specs but we all know that really dont mean squat.
How many LEDs are there for the LH90?

My friend told me that he saw one pre-sale model as LH93 (known as LHX before?) at Hyundai department store in Seoul Korea.

It is equipped with back lighting 3360 LEDs. Is it the same as LH90 or an upgrade?
If you check back a few pages you will see there is much debate about how many leds are in these sets. LG apparently releases the number of groups for leds but doesnt tell how many actual individual lamps there are. But why does it really matter???? Whether it has 1,000 or 3,000 what counts is do you like the picture. LG gives the contrast ratio as 2,000,000/1. What does that really mean to the end user. My 47lg90 from last year is supposed to only have 1/2 the leds as my 55lh90 from this year. However I cant see a difference in picture quality/brightness etc so what does it matter how many are in each set??????????????????The picture on both, IMO, is great. Dont base your buying decision on MANUFACTURERS specs. They are all trying to out do each other.
