Vizio VSB200 Soundbar - Page 27

Thanks so much for the responses. While the price of the Vizio soundbar is attractive, the fact that it doesn't power on and off with the tv is probably a deal breaker for me. As for the learning remote, I have a bunch of them around the house but I always prefer to use the one that came with the TV whenever possible. Again, I truly appreciate your assistance - thanks.

Thanks for the info. I always assumed those harmony remotes were at least $100. So can I control a Samsung TV, FIOS box, & Soundbar with the cheap one? What about the PS3...I assume that's blutooth and not compatible with any of the Harmony remotes?

Can you link me to the cheap 4 unit model btw?

Thanks

viche,

I believe that if you search for "Harmony remote refurbished" on the Google, you can find all different levels of the remote available that fit your budget needs.

I use it to control a Panasonic p50g20 plasma TV, Samsung BD6500 BlueRay player, FIOS DVR, xTreamer Sidewinder Media Center & Vizio VSB200 sound bar (5 remotes) replaced by one Harmony 610 refurb model. It turns on or off any/all of these devices depending on want I want to do, watch TV, watch DVD, or view personal movie, listen to music or view photos taken.

Harmony controls things by want you want to do. Such as "Watch TV", "Watch a Movie", or "Other Activities" that you can define. It can take a bit of work for some devices. My xTreamer took some time work to get it to work right.

Much nicer than using all the individual remotes--never going back. Think everyone who bought one would agree.

They make an adapter for controlling the PS3. I got one and it works great.

So if you say watch movie, will it turn on the tv, change it to bluray source, turn on the bluray, turn on the soundbar, etc? I can see that being a bit buggy. As it is, I have to point my remote right at devices sometimes and press on a couple times before it registers. I see a cascade of failures waiting to happen. Or are you saying that is just changes the remote so that the buttons are now all related to movie watching options?

Picked one up at Wal Mart today for 20 bucks works great with the VBS200 and other devices. Sony sub is on the way should be here by weeks end.

Edit: the harmony 300 will turn on and off plus mute and up and down the volume on the VBS200 but unless I'm missing something doesn't seem capable of switching inputs or turning on or off effects.

Viche,
That's exactly what the harmony does. Turn on all devices one after other, and remember the context, so if volume needs to be increased, it would talk to the sorround bar ( or tv, depending on your configuration), and if you need to change the channel, it'd talk to the cable box,and so on. I've been using the harmony 900 since 3 or 4 yrs,and it works great.

I have a harmony 650 that I recently bought, but not using it.let me know if you'd be interested in having at about half of the online price + shipping cost.

This matches my exact set up. Bought the soundbar based on all of the positive reviews of this site and then heard a lot of good things about the harmony remotes in this thread as well and decided to give it a shot. I couldn't be happier. My next thing will be getting a sub to match the soundbar.

So how does the remote know if a device didnt get the signal? Do you ever have a problem with that? How is the timing handled. My Samsung can take 5 to 7 seconds to turn on.

Will any model handle the SB200 effects and commercial volume features? I turn them on and off all the time?

Is there a chart comparing model remotes? I know I'm being lazy here.

I'm currently updating my Bedroom Tv & Sound and my Living Room HT. I have the Tv picked out and paid for (37" LED on Backorder), but now I'm researching Soundbars. For my bedroom sound. I haven't received the Tv yet, but can only imagine that it is subpar. I'm currently running two small Bose speakers to my old 20" Flat Tube.

I was looking at bars that run around the $250 range, but since this one is looked at a general good quality value and can be purchased locally, I am now leaning towards this bar + a new sub.

I asked this question in the Subwoofer sub-forum, but I got little useful response all around. My question here is, would it make since to purchase this bar, plus say a $250 Sub? I was looking at the Outlaw M8. Or would I be better off just buying a soundbar with a sub? I haven't tried this one with or without a sub yet, but I just looking at my different options.

TIA
Steph

U need to call Logitech , i had a problem with that too

I gave up on trying to get the Harmony to switch from input 1 to input 3 (optical). I was too lazy to call Logitech and see if they could get it to work, so I just put everything on input 1 (or, more precisely, I feed everything to the TV, which is connected to input 1).

That's unfortunate, but no great loss for me since, to my ears, there's not much difference in quality between optical and inputs 1 and 2.

You certainly are being lazy

I have used the harmony to turn on and off the vsb200, but haven't tried changing inputs - I didn't need it.
Maybe others can help with that.

There are 2 blue lights. I believe one is Tru Sound and the other Tru Surround I think. For me, I prefer the sound when both are off. Don't think there is a right or wrong setting. Try them all and let your ears be the judge. Hope that helps.

On my 610, if something did not come on, there is a help button that goes through a series on yes/no questions for each device as to whether it came on or not.

Thanks, the Harmony 300 is a great remote I went to myharmony.com account and easily programed buttons on the remote for inputs and effects on the VSB200.

I went ahead with the Sony SA-W2500 sub (on its way) after reading good reviews and that it will work with a VSB200. From what I read the Sony has to be dialed back away's because it can easily over power the Vizio but for around 80 bucks delivered including a fifteen foot cable I figure I'll give it a try.

I use my VSB200 in a bedroom with an older 37" LCD Toshiba and it is night and day between the set's speakers and the sound bar should be that much sweeter with a sub.

Rgr that. I'm guessing a good sub, even at 8", would overshadow this soundbar. I'll have to make sure the sub I get has a dial. I already have a Sony Sub from a old Sony HT box set. I'm thinking of using this one, once I get my new sub to replace the old in the LR.

Why don't you just use the optical for everything

I agree. Much easier when all sources are connected to the tv and one optical out to the bar. Vizio bar should stay on input 3 until you change it or during power outages .

Dont know about that

But i think most people who have a receiver use a better sound system than this soundbar

Cause receivers are expensive? And this soundbar is cheap

I think most every here with tge soundbar just have this with maybe a subwoofer connected to the tv as a sound system

No, the soundbar is the receiver and the speaker.

You're both right, of course, but I just don't see much improvement when I use optical to connect the TV to the soundbar. On the other hand, if you look at an earlier part of this thread (2-3 months ago?), there seemed to be a good argument that connecting a PS3 to the soundbar via optical does improve the sound quality for some Blurays, video games, etc., which is why I did exactly that. So I had the PS3 on optical and the TV/cablebox on input 1.

Can I use the vsb200 soundbar with an existing sub? Or does it have to be the matching wireless sub? I couldn't see a sub output on the phots of the back panel.
